Filming a dance show, then something amazing happened!
Thank you for some really good reviews on this camera. I am thinking about getting a second hand HC-X1000. I have a Rode stereo microphone with a mini jack. I have only heard about xlr's mentioned on this camera, so I don't know if I can get a usable adapter if the camera does not have mini jack?
You CAN get an XLR to min jack plug adapter. I have one on mine. Then set the audio for that channel to mic, but not the 12V mic version as that is for mics with no power. Works fine.
For a sad and slow song they are moving so fast and smooth
I love this….🥹
Hi Gary, what are your thoughts about the HC-X1 and sound recording, especially using the built-in microphone?
How do recommend keeping the HC-X1 clean? Mine collects dust like a magnet.
I swear this is like you were reading my mind...from 2015!!!!
This is beautiful! The group did such an amazing job capturing the emotions of the song!
How are the HC-X1000E Doing?
I only have one that I use unmanned on the stage, but after 4 years its still going strong!
Would this camcorder be good for...romance/ soft P. /Intimate scenes,/ Controlled lighting /great 4k detail???
Dear Sir Amzing Lessons , I have Panasonic HCX 1000 , I want to video record an Indian Event on stage with low light , in the night , Manual mode . Please let me know which setting I should use ? If i use high DB , if grain appear which setting I should adjust to get a good picture ? Please let me know .
All you can do is open the iris, keep your shutter at either 1/50 or 1/60 depending where you are, and then use the gain to be able to get best results. This camera is not good in low light so you will get what you get?
Very good idea 👍
Oh wow, you really caught the feeling of the song, this was amazing

Hi, Thanks for your video's all the effort is much appreciated, I'm in the process of deciding which camera to buy, still cross checking specs over and over weighing up pros and cons, I'm looking for a camcorder to do professional looking wedding video, some documentary style videos and events, I've seen a lots of videos on the HC-x1000 and I'm getting some conflicting information but all the same issues about low light are the main problems as with all camcorders although your 151 does a pretty nice job in low light, if I was you I'd be using both, I did come across a good demonstration of low light video with the HC-X1000 and he really experiments with different setting to achieve some pretty amazing low light results, I'll add the link below if thats ok so you can see for yourself, I think this camera has so many setting and combinations of setting you could spend months experimenting, I think thats whats in my future and I'll be keeping notes to jog my memory of the setting I think are best for me, anyway here's that link, cheers and thanks again for you efforts. ruclips.net/video/6v1-kIVll3A/видео.html
Thanks alot for the good job....but I still like the panasonic hd 151.with the video qualities....how do I go for this camera, cause is my first time to see that on your desk as you explain the hc-x1000...be happy if u return my answer...thanks..
Personally I prefer the Panasonic DVX200 as it has a larger chip and so better in low light than the HC-X1000. I just use the HC-X1000 on the edge of the stage on wide angle for a decent picture, but filmed from the back it can be too dark. See this review... ruclips.net/video/AjfC-OHAt-E/видео.html
I am in this and so proud of my friends and academy and of course miss Kerry x
Hello There... can you recommend a setting for Low Light shoot... I'm new to this camera and i want to shoot in Night. Please Help . Thank You.
Hello sir. i am doing wildlife videography in DSLR nikon D500 nikon lens 200-500MM F5.6. now want to move in video camera want to buy panasonic hc-x1000 4k video camera i am doing only wildlife videography so what you suggest me. should i buy this camera?
No, there are so many better 4k cameras now.
How about X1000 shoot in FHD? Is it good?
Yes. It was all shot in FHD. I usually say 4K but I don't shoot in that as its only 25P.
DanceShowFilming is it good for news broadcast? I interest for this camcorder because the price, really want pxw z150 but too expensive
Its good in well lit locations. It's grainy in dark locations! So it depends on the situation if it will produce good pictures or not. Its also a good size if you need to carry it around all day! Not too heavy :)
DanceShowFilming great! I usually use sony pxw/pmw for shooting or coverage, but I really want to know for panasonic cam ability
im in this !!
hi gary , they are great .. got mine in with my hcx 1000 , good deal from prestons
Yes. Doesn't work with my DVX200 though, had to buy a more expensive model!
thanks gary they are brilliant got mine allready
DB is a ratio and by itself is meaningless. In these cameras it is the amount by which the signal from the sensor is increased electronically, similar to what happens when you turn up the volume control on your audio amplifier. The grain (noise) is a combination of sensor and amplifier noise. You are not "using DB" you are increasing the sensor amplifier gain.
Huh? I think "increasing the gain" is a little more easier to understand than what you just said? Just keeping it simple..
DanceShowFilming I agree with "increasing gain" as that is what is happening, but you said "using Db" , which is meaningless. You can express anything you like in Db provided you specify the parameter.
Ah I see. I generally do reviews like this on the fly, I don't have a script as such and mistakes like this do happen. Hopefully you and others can look past the little word errors and still understand what I'm trying to say.
thanks Gary , great review , good little camera , always ask a great person like you not a salesman.. just want a nice little camera to film cruise voyages.. thanks Nigel
I'm in this dance and I am so glad people can see that
Well done. Your footage looks great. Gerry in Calgary
Thanks Gerald
Oh,Just great!
Can you talk a bit about manuel exposue
There is a third wheel on the lens manual exposure. Gain is operated via the wheel on the side of the camera that is also used for shutter speed and such like. What is it you wish to know?

Very very nice. I find it amazing what 3 good cameras and operators can do during a dance show. Your captions says that you film in 4K. Just curious if you provide dancers w/ the option of purchasing 4K footage, or render it all down to 1080p during production?
Hi Steve We film and edit in 4K (on a HD timeline) render it down to HD and produce DVD still, though I am looking at offering online HD material too. When I get a new computer next year I will offer 4K online too!
lol.... I've watched all four videos.... thanks for sharing....
Hi Gary. Great video reviews, for which I thank you. First off, do you consider this camera to be very inferior to the AG-DVX200? I know the latter is far more expensive and its larger sensor produces better low light with 'bokeh'; but I am struggling to make a decision. I NEED to edit in 4K resolution as I have been commissioned to produce some stock footage in 4k. I LOVE the fact that this camera has a 20X zoom compared to the AG-DVX200 having only 13. I know you edit on to a HD timeline but is the rendered footage recognised as being 4K or merely HD? Many thanks fella, keep up the good work. Mike
In daylight both cameras produce some stunning shots. Of course the DX200 is better and you have more bokeh. Its when the light drops that you see just how much darker the X1000 is compared with the DX200! Its really noticeable. So you have to decide if you need it for normal outside shots, or a mixture of outside and indoor more low light shots and weigh up the difference. Note that the DX200 is a very difficult camera to use. The auto focus is useless! Some of the gadgets don't work in 4K mode such as the histogram! If using an external monitor you don't get an option for details on the monitor! The WFM is small and all other details turn off when using it, so you can't see what aperture your using etc, crazy things like that!!!!!
First of all, Thank you so much for this review, very interesting. Now, I am willing to buy a camera, I want make my own videos, and make them looking like cinema picture using Premiere Pro, I have an imac 27" 5K . So following your comments, you say that this camera isn't good for make movie film, but just about normal staff as a normal camera 10x cheaper, or .. if we want just filming on 4K, that's not the exact camera to buy, please apologize me if I misunderstood. So my question, can I use this camera to create my own movies and make then looking as cinema picture by editing them? or you do you have another suggestion for me concerning maybe another camera model. thank you very much in advance Best Regards
+Geoffrey Fake Its a great camera for making movies, depending on what you want. If you want cinematic depth of field look then this isn't the camera for you, as you need a camera with a bigger sensor that you can change lenses with. However, for TV program style video then this camera is great. Just use plenty of light as its not too good in low light as you know.
tell me how to enable the manual exposure
You are right about the HCX1000 it is not good in 4K mode in a low light.. But what about if we use it in Full HD mode in a low light Is there a HDR mode (high dynamic range) same as Panasonic HC-VXF990 et HC-VX980 ? Do you think the new DVX200 4K camcorder from panasonic is better in low light? IF panasonic could build a 4K camcorder with a 3 moss system would be much more better.... because panasonic 151 is a 3CCD that s the best for low light.. Tobias from caribbean
this one ? Panasonic AG-HMC151E
What is this camera "151"
+Jazz TV The Panasonic AG-HMC151E was one of the first SDHC cameras. I got two in 2010 and they have been great for the last 5 years. I just upgraded to 2x DVX200 4K cameras, almost as good in low light as the 151s. cvp.com/index.php?t=product/panasonic_ag-hmc151e_avchd_camcorder
Here is a link to a video i made with the HC-X1000. Filmed in 4K at 50p and edited on a HD timeline in FCPX. There are some cropped shots in it. All filmed under artificial light, but all rooms were decently lit by fluorescents. ruclips.net/video/rDPMQ76klEo/видео.html
What you think now after time you have got this Panasonic HC x1000 and what you think about green screen with this cameras?
+Ivan Ćosić Hi Ivan I had it a while now and it's a great camera. With plenty of light the picture is VERY impressive! I also have the DVX200 and in good light both cameras give excellent results. Of course the DVX200 performs a little better in low light due to it's larger chip. I haven't done any greenscreen with either camera yet as I use them more for theatre shows, but i would imagine they would perform very well with such a high bitrate!
Excellent video review. I bought this camera shortly after watching your review and I use Final Cut Pro X for editing. But I have some video quality issues. On camera pans and moves the video almost seems to pixelate. Have you encountered that issue? Do you use any kind of video conversion software to before importing to FCPX?
+Den Woltering Not had any issues like that. I tend to use proxy files for editing though so that it's just like editing HD video. I also edit on a HD timeline so i can use the crop function without loosing detail. Do you film in .mov? I do as this should play in FCPX better than mp4 or the lower quality AVC. I just received the DVX200 yesterday so will be using this as well as the X1000 this weekend for a couple of jobs. Gary
+DanceShowFilming Thanks for that response. I will try shooting in .mov and import proxy files. That might be the solution. I looked at my video on my TV and it looks way better. Thanks again.
Any editing software i install which boast working with this Camcorder doesnt work, cant locate the files or if i do waste time rendering it produces sound only. I am very dissapointed with Pansonic for this lack of clarity in their product. Spend £1000 more on the Sony and they give you the software to edit your 4K. very dissapointed. I spent all the money I personally can afford.
I'm a windows 7 pc owner :( Why is there no soft ware to do this? Not sure what NP is???
+David Anthony Batten NP = no problem. Answered a lot of this on other video. Hope you get it sorted.
I cant believe how little online support there is for this Camera now that I have spent nearly £2000 with the cards as well. No recomended Editing software in 4K for WIndows. All I have seen is the HD Writer XE from Panasonic which is ancient in style and doesnt find Video files sitting on my PC anyway. In short, it doesnt work. How can a company this big produce this Camcorder and not provide software for editing. Also....what is all this talk of not being able to edit in 4K.....why have companies made such Cameras if we all have to render to 1080p.................might as well get a 1080p Camcorder with a larger sensor isnt it?????? We dont all own a top MAC....why, because they are twice the price.
I'll look tonight. I have tried so many programs and free downloads etc all claiming they run 4K and they all do nothing. Adobe Premier Pro, shows the 4K from the Panasonic HC X1000 rendering on my timeline then ........play back has sound and a Black screen :( Its like buying a fastest car that runs on some rare frogs shit from the Amazon Rain forest!!!!!
+David Anthony Batten You're running video footage from decent hard drive right? 4K take a lot of bandwidth so you need a fast raid system really. Thunderbolt is best, but for a pc you'll need a PCIe card. You need a beefy computer to run 4K too. It's certainly not cheap to edit 4K.
I think you all misunderstood. I have a powerful pc and Adobe PP. I can watch the 4k on the timeline. When i render, the results is sound and no image :(
+David Anthony Batten Ah ok David. Wonder why that is happening. Have you looked it up on the premier forums? There may be a solution? (BTW Madness above is me too). Let me know how Edius goes if you try it. I know FCPX edits (via proxy files) and renders without any problems at all.
Nice 3 camera shoot. I'm amazed at how well you capture the atmosphere and movement from these extremely low light performances. Thanks for posting.
+Steve McGuinness Thanks Steve. Yes it's not easy to get the footage under these conditions, but when it goes right, the results can be amazing. Great college standard helps make it look good too :)
hello I bought HC-x1000 are amateur can tell me how I can do slow motion and program manual to make beautiful video please thanks
sorry can you help me? I have very important problems with this camera. I any light conditions I have a disturbing Video Noise. In daylight and in Low Light Conditions. Can you give me an info about best setting performance? Your image is without noise, it's a filter from a program or not? Sorry for my bad English and please help me because I'm very sad with it.
+Il Re Blanco Sounds like your gain is up.Make sure in daylight its down to 0DB. Try complete auto mode, in daylight this should look perfect. if not then it could be a faulty camera?
+DanceShowFilming tell me how to enable the manual exposure not focus
After six months with the HC-X1000 I find I'm using it at FHD most of the time. More development is required to improve low light performance. Don't buy this camera for low light but buy it for long zoom and excellent results in bright light.
+Ian Cruickshank Good advise
can you do a video about the digital zoom on this camera please.
+David Bracegirdle Sorry I am so busy this time of year. I am thinking of getting the Panasonic DVX200 too.
I've used Libec LANCs to shoot dance and they are not bad for the money. 100 pounds is not too much in my estimation. Treat them gently; they are a bit more prone to breaking, but with good care should last a fairly long while.
Dear Gary, thank you very much for making this very interesting review and landing your knowledge and experience. I am also interested in buying HC-X1000. I would mainly use it for filming sports events (track and field athletics - mainly outdoor). I am by no means anything else then amateur, but I am atracted by camera's 4k 50fps with good zoom capability. I understand that daylight recording should be very smooth and detailed, but I am concerned with what you are describing as not good in low light. Is for e.g. claudy day allready considered enough of a low light, where recording quality would be altered obviously? What dou you think based on your extensive experience? I understand that this camera might seem a bit to good for my level of understanding, but I am planning to invest some more time in researching in the future. Based on your review I understand that recording in very low light is not good but I only plan to record daytime and outdoor. Thanks for suggestion. BRG Rok L.
+Rok Ljubič Outdoor in daylight should be fine. It might get a little more grainy at dawn dusk, but during normal daylight hours the picture is amazing. And it records 4k at 50P! (3840 x 2160) It does full 4K too but only at 25p. At this price, you can't go wrong for what you want. Just remember its not so great when the light gets low.
+DanceShowFilming dear Gary, thanks for your response, I am very likely going for this one! Best regards, RokL
Thanks
Very,very nice job
