    The biggest change I noticed with a stock 86 and the stage 1 tune was a distinct softening of the throttle response at the very bottom end making moving off from a stop (manual car) much easier and less jerky. The torque dip is definitely less noticeable, but it feels like the middle of the dip isn’t as bad and the start and end of the dip is less pronounced. It’s still there but you can almost start to ignore it. Top end feels slightly better but I think it’s more to do with the extended redline the stage one gives you.
    All in all the stage one tune on a stock 86 feels a little muddier down low and a bit looser up high, that sounds bad, but it makes for an easier driving experience for sure. The stock tune feels robotic and the dip is like falling off a cliff.

    I've had the OFT v1 for a little over a year on my '15 BRZ. IMHO it is worth it. The stage 1 tune does fill in the torque dip a little bit and you feel a little more power at top end. Thomas is right: at first its difficult to tell whether the stage 1 tune does anything substantial. It does not generate Godlike Gobs of Horse Power but it does improve driveability by bumping up the torque curve throughout the rev range partly filling ing the bottom of the torque dip. Drive for awhile on stage 1 and when you reflash to OEM tune for a service visit your butt dyno will miss the driveabilty it adds.
    Last fall I installed the FT86 Catted UEL Header (overpipe back is stock) and I've been using the 91 and 93 octane Stage 2 tunes. This you definitely feel: the torque dip is GONE, torque is pretty much increased from idle all the way to redline. No longer embarrassed at stop lights. No more downshifting from 6th to 3rd (unless you really want to!). Yes, the OFT works and I recommend it even if you don't do any other mods. It improves driveability that much.
    But this is all by my Butt Dyno, I'd really like to see some real power/torque dyno charts of OEM stock headers, catted and un-catted UEL/EL headers, etc. (Hint, Hint FT-86: my hometown is about the same altitude as Des Moines. YOUR dyno chart ought to approximate my results!)

    • @etoineschrdlu9382
      @etoineschrdlu9382 6 лет назад

      ...and yes, they've upgraded the tunes. There no longer are seperate UEL, EL header tunes, no longer seperate 91 and 93 octane tunes. For octane, the tune automatically adjusts the ignition advance multiplier (IAM) for 91 through 94 octane. After the install, I ran the real time display and true to their word the IAM started at 0.7 and quickly settled out at 1.0 (I run 93 octane exclusively).
      Release notes just say they no longer differentiate between UEL and EL headers, with no other explanation. But my guess is that their efforts to optimize tunes for each header style eventually converged into one that that was optimum for both. (or the two tunes were so close that swapping them made no difference.)

    • @amcezm0n3y47
      @amcezm0n3y47 Год назад

      no the tune is stored in the system memory in place of the stock map. And read your frs owners manual. It says to never use E85. nothing more then 10% ethanol. The fuel system isnt flex fuel capable and would require modification for longevity. E85 will literally gum up your fuel pump and filter if it gets to cold or sits to long even in flex fuel cars. If your fuel system isnt designed to run the gasaohol it will dry out your rubber seals and corrode the alloys not treated to run the high alcohol content fuel. Gasaohol also inherently retains water and can settle in your tank to unexpectedly cause stalling or worse. If you are building a purpose based race car E85 can be a good option as you use it up fast so it doesnt sit in your tank\fuel system as long overall and can be flushed with a tank of premium. You are better off using a tune with high octane and sticking to that if its a daily .

      A tune is a tune, that will not change. The system itself was just updated, so if you reflash often trying to eliminate knock or fiddle for that perfect a/f ratio, this could be helpful in reducing flash times. That's about it though. And the 1st gen oft worked on 17+ as well, it just took forever for shiv to release the tunes.

    • @zerotoux
      @zerotoux 6 лет назад +3

      This is the message from Shiv himself from OpenFlash Performance facebook page:
      "New v4.01 Beta tunes now available for all USDM GT86s. These tunes have all sorts of update include cold start delete, remapped throttle tables, revised engine load limits, fully supported data logging channels and a default advance multiplier of 0.70 instead of the usual 1.0. This allows for learning ability based upon octane. Make sure you use a PREMIUM grade fuel because these tunes are aggressive and run strong!

    I was saving for the FT86SpeedFactory Catted UEL header when I saw Everyday Driver run the OFT 1 on their FR-S (with that header). I bought the OFT and tuned my stock BRZ. Thomas is right: just driving around you'll be uncertain at first whether you actually have more power or are just having a Placebo Effect. However, after a few months you will realize that you don't find yourself downshifting as often or downshifting as many gears while passing in interstate traffic. As Everyday Driver noted, the Factory "Torque Dip" is right where you run on the freeway and with the OFT tune it "fills in" the dip and really improves driveability and gas mileage. When I finally installed the Catted UEL header the power increase was more noticeable. and gas mileage suffers a few percent (but that may be because I'm stuffing my foot in it more often).
    I recommend it: it's easy to use, the realtime diagnostics are nice, and the provided tunes work as advertised. Just be advised that the OFT doesn't perform miracles. You won't be beating S2000's even with stage 2 mods or running stage 3 with E85. The UEL advertises +14hp and + 5 lb-ft. I'm not sure how much more I get with the stage 2 tune but I am guessing 5 to 10 more hp. (Thomas, help me here! - I'm guessing!)
    The next item on my wishlist is the Dragy GPS accelerometer. Maybe that can end the mystery.

      Did you notice an mpg decrease or increase with stage 1 tune?

    • @etoineschrdlu9382
      @etoineschrdlu9382 3 года назад

      @@Aaron-fb6mb Realize that this is purely my anecdotal evidence based on my experince: I recieved and installed my OFT about four years ago and almost immediately my mpg went from just above 30 mpg down to a little above 29. I suspect that my drop in mpg is based on my flooring it more often just for the joy of it. I suspect that the stage 1 tune does poke a little more gas into the engine in the "torque dip" rpm range where we still do much of our daily driving. The trade-off seems to be mileage vs flexibility. I installed FT86 Speedfactory's catted UEL header a year later and last Winter I installed their resonated cat-back (no longer available). With the header, I moved to the stage 2 tune. Neither of those mods made any difference in my mpg - it stayed the same, a bit over 29 mpg. That lack of change may be because of the louder exhaust encourages me to avoid flooring it so often. Also, with the OFT, the header, and the cat-back, I have noticed that I can play around with what gear and rpm range I use and I watch the Dash "MPG indicator" to see what economy I can get. In steady speed driving you can get surprising mpg in each gear by adjusting the rpm. The takeaway is that all my mods have made the FA20 boxer much more flexible than the stock tune and exhaust allowed. I think a 4% decrease in mileage is worth it, but then -4% is just what I have noticed.

    I am running the stage one tune with an Borla cat back. On 93 octane Less torque dip, better throttle response and more top end. Not a huge difference more like what the car SHOULD have been from the factory. On E85 it is like taking an GTI engine and stuffing it in the BRZ. The torque dip feels like it is gone the car just pulls from 2500 rpm to the fuel cut off. Way more mid range punch. Best $500 I have ever spent on a car. On E85 the BRZ runs much cooler on a hot day. The only downside is a slight residence or ring at 4000 rpm and a slight dip in fuel economy power equals fuel + air on 93 octane. On E85 there is about an 20% dip in fuel economy. You get at least an 15% increase in wheel hp.

    Hi!!! I wanted to ask for advice if possible. I have a scion FRS 2014
    I saw your video on uel headers and oft tune. I had a spec d exhaust before, (bought the car used, it came with it). And I got used catless UEL headers on. After the install, the car was a lot slower than before, and I got a used OFT, to do the stage 2+ tune. I also got a cold air intake. The tune made it better, but it’s was a lot quicker before the headers, tune and cold air intake
    I have little to no experience doing this. And I’ve seen people’s say that it takes about 50 miles for the tune to set in. Others say that the cold air intake is causing the issue (the tune specs say to use the stock air box, I didn’t realize this). Do you know anything about this? Would it make it better if I remove the CAÍ? Any guidance would be greatly appreciate 🙏

    Just ordered this. Will an aftermarket EL header fix the remainder of the torque dip issue or do I have to go UEL in order to get rid of it entirely? Also, what’s the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2 on this? I assume there’s a power increase, but if the stock header is catted already, would I be able to Stage 2 on the stock header or do I have to get an aftermarket one for it?

      I know in the owners manual it says tot avoid using ethanol gas with a rating higher than 10% as it can do damage to the fuel system. It has to do with the corrosiveness of the gasahol to the seals and other components. Unless your fuel system is specifically set up to run e85 I wouldnt do it regardless of what the kids on here will tell you. It really is some nasty stuff and can gum up your fuel pump and filter. if it gets real cold. Just find ya some high octane gas . I have a few stations where I live where you can get up to 110 octane gas...at the pump ! It is soooo expensive though.
