How was the whole Dyno experience? Also, who did you end up going with? Dyno tune is honestly the best option for getting the most out of your car and we definitely want to do this in a future video too 👀
Extremely smooth process and I was able to watch the whole process incredible difference with custom tune there was no way I’d get the gains off off the shelf software as everything is vehicle specific even driving away from the shop was able to feel the difference straight away with the light weight body it is a different beast
how do you avoid voiding warranty on playing with ECU? some people say buy a new ECU and then flash that and keep the original one? some also said that's useless in modern car coz they will find the ECU data being blank for awhile?
There’s really no way around it unless like you were saying, you lie about the ecu missing data when you put in a new one. Tbh that’s too much work in our opinion so we just took the L lol
Welcome the the car world where you’ll fall into a rabbit hole of modding haha! Before working on getting a tune, we would recommend getting almost the performance mods you would want on your car. Otherwise you would have to retune if you were to install a new part afterwards. We would recommend getting at least an exhaust, headers, and possibly an intake! Good luck on your journey! 🫡
Question for the gen 1 brz oft tuned, do you happen to have an aftermarket intake? If so did it cause any problems with the off the shelf tunes from OFT that state they recommend the stock intake? Did you do anything about this?
Hello, the first gen currently has the stock intake on it but we were reading some forums in the past about intakes and from our understanding they were saying it would be beneficial with a tune which means you might have to change your map around a little bit. But, depending on which intake you get, there should be a stated guide that comes with it that tells you the exact values you need to change in which graph.
Yes! We’re pretty sure you’ll have to buy a new license separate from the original person that had it but you should be good to tune with a used one :)
We’re not too sure which part of the tuning process you’re at, but we’re guessing you’re talking about cracking the ECU? Sometimes updated software on the 86s cause a problem with having access to tune, so you could maybe try going over to the OFT website to see if you need to have them send you a file to unlock the ecu. Or, if you’re talking about getting tunes, you can go to the OFT website and they have base tunes you can download onto yout OFT
With either of these tuning options can you download the stock tune on your BRZ and re-flash it back in to get back to stock? Will these tunes show up during a CA smog check (guessing California is looking at ECU calibration numbers)? I've been doping my fuel (crappy CA 91 RON/MON) with MMT octane booster up to about 93 or 94 octane because I can feel something off on straight 91 during hard accelerations (suspect that I am getting knock which is trimming timing); with MMT she feels a lot better and smoother. Has anyone been tuning for that type of fuel blend? stock late model 2023 BRZ limited
Yes you can reflash back to stock with either or but again the OFT doesn't work for the GR86 yet :// We're not too sure if they'll show up on emissions testing but we highly doubt that they will if you let the stock tune run for a little while before you go in. You also need to put the stock exhaust piping back on as well lol
And we've been wanting to try octane booster but haven't had the opportunity to test it yet. Quick question for you though, when you experienced knock, did your car go into a limp mode by chance or throw any lights on the dash? Also, on a scale of 1-10 how much would you recommend it? 😂😂
@@carantix No limp mode or dash lights; just felt like a loss of acceleration (car will trim timing as knock is picked up by the knock sensor). would highly recommend octane booster but I do not know what the long term effects of MMT in a modern car will be yet. I've been using half a bottle of amsoil dominator per tank. I'm sure that overdosing, using an entire bottle of something like boostane, will eventually coat everything with manganese oxides and require replacement of oxygen sensors and catalytic converters so we should be using this stuff with caution. I doubt other states are having much issues with fuel; cali 91 octane is trash and not good for these cars; at 12.5:1 compression ratio we need to run 100+ octane to reach peak performance on a tune
Got you got you! It’s definitely scary to try and run these additives in the car but it would definitely be easier if Cali just provided the right fuel like you mentioned😂😂
Lol... this platform went backwards. It should be affordable. Back in the days, you could buy an aftermarket header + OFT for $1k and ripping around banging gears all day
As of right now, the OFT V2.0 still wont work on a 2nd gen yet. We hope that they'll configure the software to work sometime soon but for now your best bet would probably be an ecutek!
Here in SoCal most gas stations don’t have e85 so going to one could be out of the way. Not only that, but with e85 the mileage does drop so needing to fill up more often can be a hassle as well. It all really depends on your situation and use for the car! Lucky for us we have a few in our area so we do run e85 on the daily 😎
@@BRZguy I don't think it make ECUtek necessarily 'worthless' because the non support catless tune. I'm assuming that they were facing CARB legal laws in some states which probably forced them to taking catless tunes off. Ecutek offers many more tunes for many platforms, and in this case the 86 could still be tuned with a highflow cat & stock cat. Sure being catless helps, if the car was turbo'ed or super charged but the gains in torque and power is not a big jump lol. That's another topic that we could dicuss but you get the point. TL:DR: ECUtek is for sure not 'worthless' It's a way better tuning tablet than the OFT. If you think it's better, lemme see some sources that you could provide that would potientially change my opinion. Otherwise, ECUTEK IS THE BEST. nerd.
@@CAGunzinfo At least from what I know, the cars are pretty optimized from factory already. Sure you can get it tuned with the stock header, but you're talking under a 5 hp difference at the most. The benefits just don't outweigh the costs. The real bottleneck in these cars is the cat for whatever reason. Your only real option if you want decent power without swapping headers would be to do an E85 flex fuel mod and tune. But for a basic stage 1, I'd save my money.
Or you get the ACE header 4-2-1 EL header with 91 OCT and the power increases significantly almost getting rid of the nortorious torque dip these FA20 motors have. with a gain from 155whp to 197~200 whp. THAT END CLIP 😂. Great video, personally I’m thinking about getting Ecutek for my 86 just because it’s so easy to switch between tunes! 💯🔥🔥🔥
VF tuner was just released too, you can tune your own car with this but they will also include some free maps. About $650 plus shipping i think.
Good to hear more tuning options being released! Thank you for the info!
Can u guys make a video about the different ecutek bundles they have lol. There are like 5 all at different price ranges
We will for sure look into it!
Had OTS on my 13’ FRS with E85 and LC. UEL and Invidia N1 Straight, most fun I had still miss it to this day!
E85 and LC really is a game changer in the car! So much fun! What happened to your car?
Still waiting for OTF release for GR86 and newer BRZ.
We’re surprised there still isn’t any update on a release. Last we heard, it was being worked on still…
Good informative video man 👍
Thank you bro!
Nice! I wish the tuning options for 2nd gen weren't so expensive. 😭
All car parts*
In all seriousness though we agree with you! In the end, you do get what you pay for which also gives you infinite smiles per gallon as well :))
I looked into this as I’m at the stage of needing a stage 2+ tune ultimately went with a custom dyno tune for $1300

Aftermarket intake is a pain in the ass to tune. That's why it is recommended to use stock.

Ahh got you, 93 octane basically doesn’t exist in SoCal too 💀💀
