- It's over.... isn't it?
Nick and I talk about this hour-long finale. We discuss the new designs, story points, the future of the show, and the bizarre feeling of how this both is and is not an ending to the show.

Thank you for having me on to babble on about redesigns and forget episode titles for a full hour and a half. It was great to work with you once more!
NICKtendo hello
One thing that bothered me about the White Diamond anticlimax is that they wasted the opportunity for White to be neither redeemed or poofed, but left alone with her own thoughts. Like instead of her saying "Ok, I'll go back to Earth with you and fix everything", they could've had White say "No! I can't go out there! Then everyone will see their perfect leader is...flawed!" All the other characters in the head ship agree that they'll just leave and let her stay alone in her own head. Our last view of White Diamond is the light in the room dimming and she looks very small and weak as she's alone in a damaged throne room by herself, while she cries "No! Don't leave me here alone! I need you! How can I possibly reflect my purifying light if no one is here to witness it? What is this feeling? I'm afraid. I'm so alone. I can't do anything on my own." There you go. White Diamond is still a villain who hasn't been redeemed or changed her ways, but we pity her just enough to see how White can't function as a person without being in control of the situation.
That would have been a better ending than SU telling her off. Sugar has no idea how to write a good antagonist. None of them do. A complete waste.
I really hope SU does not get a S6 and ends with the movie. At this point, the story is finished. No more
But then none of the gems are reformed which means Steven would completely fail
@@RonquixoteDIII Then healing the corrupted Gems without White Diamond's help would be the motivating factor for Season 6. Besides, it doesn't prevent White from eventually fighting back when she regains her strength/confidence. For example, she could send Steven or the other Gems false memories. Or take control of other Homeworld Gems. Or finally pilot her ship to Earth and start a war. Or White herself becomes corrupted from letting her flaws get the best of her.
These ideas sound so much better than what we got. Seriously, you should write a fan fiction. Hearing WD being redeemed after what she did not feel right.
You cant possibly rush every dangling plot thread in the next 10 minutes. Sugar: Forget about the human zoo and hold my beer.
JadeHex - The chest in Lion
- the human zoo
- the forced fusions
- the cluster (what will happen to it?)
- What is Homeworld now?
and also jasper redemption arc, the pebbles, the off colors, lars and sadie's life, the other beach city characters that we only met a little bit of, JEFF?
Season 6: Jamie's arc to ask out every gem in Beach City before returning to Kansas
I guess that's what the next season is for, unless things get strange.
robert zheng technically Jasper was redeemed in that mini sequence
You won and she chose you... And she loved you and *SHE'S GOOOOOOOOOOONE!*

God I want someone to edit this 😭🙏😂😂

Just waiting for the Mkatwood edit of that.

*_G O N N E E E E E E E !_*
wow so original
One thing I hate is that they hyped up white diamond as someone that Steven couldn't just talk to, and he literally just said a line and everything was good.
Same. White Diamond just attacked him for less than 5 minutes and it just feels pointless, really. Like, I expected more.
I mean without his Diamond being removed she wouldn't have cared at all
Though yeah I think a lot of us would want her around longer before this happened l
Yeah I thought of that too!
But she kinda did it herself I guess? And she was made vernerable.
Also, say they did go the route of Steven having to "Beat" W.D., if he shatters, crack, or bubbles W.D. how would he save the rest of the corrupted gems?.I didn't like to easy it was but it makes sense
Loved when Steven said “what’s your excuse” call back to the pilot.
The movie is about the Snake People and it's revealed the Gems are in a galactic war against Sneeple and that's why White is so anal about everyone being perfect. So they can't lose to the Sneeple. Ronaldo confirmed right again!
The interney.
I agree with pieguy's point about the humans being pretty useless with a few exceptions (Connie, Greg, Lars) Not once was I ever given a good reason to care about most of the humans. I don't find most of them interesting or important because they never do anything that really seems to mean anything. I really like Lar's character and I was really disappointed that they didn't find a way to involve him more in this episode. I think it would have been really cool if he showed up to help with the fight. I think I would care about the humans more if the show actually gave them something interesting to do/ or gave me a reason to care about them. It really feels like steven's gem side is more important than his human one.
That could because the beach city characters and episodes have been mostly poorly written
@@djmeagaaim17 eh...wouldn't say mostly poorly written...there not bad for more "chill" episodes
well yeah I get what you mean but really I didn't midn the human episodes as giving rather minor characters more time to shine isn't really bad and shows that beach city is a actual place with actual people in it
All those townie episodes didn't amount to a goddamn thing
1:02:00 oh hey you realized the same thing
Next time on Dragonball Z; aaaaaAAAAAAA!!! (for 15 minutes).
If you judge Steven universe based entirely on the homeworld through line yes but the show is more than that imo
Unless they do something with them next season, that's kinda a problem.
Season 6: Jamie's arc to ask out every gem in Beach City before returning to Kansas
3:13 someone has clearly never heard of the real inspiration. The anime Gurren Lagann.
They need to watch Gurren Lagann
I have seen those glasses before with the Squirtle Squad though.
@@izzymcgee2527 True but their more than likely related to Gurren Lagann with how much they love anime references and working with someone from studio Trigger.
@@JojoDigitalArtist Yeah. That's a given. I'm just addressing the fact that the pointy anime shades were a thing before Gurren Lagann came out. :P
Damn. How have they not even HEARD of Gurren Lagann? I hear about it all the time.
so,
white=mind
blue=emotion
pink=heart
yellow=body?
I’m a little disappointed.
Now, I’m not one of the freaks that thought the diamonds should be killed, of course, but...White Diamond, despite being the spearhead of an entire war, and responsible for the deaths of MANY gems (and the corrupted ones as well), essentially gets off SCOTT FREE?!?
Sheriff Bigby Wolf Not exactly, the diamonds are just finally gonna leave the Earth alone, which was the entire goal of Rose/Steven.
And they take a bath!
TiClaStudios But it's obvious that they are reformed in their way of thinking, or supposedly are, which makes no damn sense.
Ideologies, especially ones as dangerous as theirs, don't just disappear because 'wah I feel bad now"
Not to mention that Blue and Yellow got over their spat just because he basically just said for them to stop. How lame!
Sheriff Bigby Wolf Yeah, not gonna lie, I agree with that point. The problem I have with all of this is that while the Diamonds are not going to harm the Earth anymore, they still are a huge problem to possibly thousands of alien life forms throughout the galaxy. They see Steven and his new "home" as an exception to their empire, instead of the standard.
Maybe it's something they will touch upon in the later seasons, especially since Steven outright said he was gonna do that:
"I'll show them all the error of their ways, and stop their spread of terror across space." (Note: he said ACROSS SPACE. Not just Earth.)
But ultimately, that is one of the numerous flaws engrained in Steven Universe's writing. Character development hasn't really been smooth with ANY character except maybe Peridot.
TiClaStudios I think most of the writing issues stem from a course correction by Rebecca Sugar. Despite what she claims to say, I don't think that she had the full plan layed out with Pink Diamond/Rose, especially with how quickly Rose was resolved of any blame or negative connotations (minus her insanely toxic relationship with nearly every one of the remaining crystal gems, but that goes unnoticed)
I don't know. I think stuff just fell apart, maybe it was CNs fault or just the fault of the writing staff, or maybe just because the showrunner lost her own vision of where it would go.
It's not just Steven winking, it's the fact that he did it during a PD dream, presumably exactly what she did since the scene, in particular, is when he blows a kiss to Pink Pearl. Steven's not just winking cause he's Steven, but because he's acting out PD's actions.
I call the jacket Pearl wears a blazer. (i'm a woman hehe) ...Yea. She looks like a business woman.. Does fit her though! lol
I was disappointed, not because the special was bad, it was alright, but dang it they could've made it better, makes me wonder about the process they take in planning episodes. Maybe this wasn't their original plan? If that is the case then I'd be happy to hear where they would've gone with the show or special.
What about the chest in lion's mane?
Peridot’s new sunglasses are probably based on Kamina from Gurren Lagann.
This is my favorite episode of the entire series, and it bumped the show up from my tenth favorite cartoon to my fifth favorite cartoon, and my second favorite non-STar Wars cartoon
I dunno why I’m the only one who never thought of Mystery Gorl as something that needed to be “resolved.” There’s no indication in her actual episode that she’d ever come back.
Thanks for plugging Wander Over Yonder. That show got absolutely screwed by Disney, and it’s such a well animated, clever show
+Jenifer Joseph That show deserved way much better, and could have been as popular as Steven Universe with official merchandise and a movie But Disney had to make sure that would never happen by moving it to Disney XD where it would do not so well compared to where it would have done better on Disney channel. I Mean... Frank said that season 3 would've had a threat worse than Dominator, Wander would have faced a bigger challenge of his ability to help, Peepers would have been tempted by the darker side, we would have seen how Sylvia softened up to Wander after they met when she was a bounty hunter, and Lord Hater was gonna have a backstory on how he became a villain..... not only that, Sylvia's dad was gonna supposedly named "Stan", and we would see more of Sylvia's past and see why she left her home a long time ago. Even Dominator was gonna have some character development in the 3rd season.
Sneeple are coming
I’m so SO happy the shows not over here because this episode was decent and not up to Steven Universes normal standards. It was INSANELY rushed and disappointing. White Diamond is a wasted villain and this is a waste of an episode with beautiful music, animation, and some of the acting. It’s too bad. 🤦🏻♂️😔
A flashback episode about White would be a good idea to remedy this issue if you ask me.
This special was very spectacular, there were some moments that were emotional for me but overall I still loved it, watching it just gives me the Infinity War or somewhat EndGame vibes.
I think SU should just end with Season 5 and the upcoming movie. The diamonds have been "defeated", corruption is cured and everyone is back on earth. Where can you go from there?
Thanks a awa
Where do you go from there? Well there's a few possibilities, and you even said one yourself! The Diamonds have been "defeated". White Diamond, throughout the entire finale seems uncomfortable, like she doesn't quite want to be there. There could be something sprouting from that. Also, not all of Homeworld wants to accept this radical change. The gems who had it good in this society like Aquamarines or Emeralds, who only had their authority because they were high in their ranking, are now just as valuable as a Ruby soldier. They aren't gonna take that well. Try not to only spread negativity in your comments. I saw some of your other ones, and it seems as if your only purpose is this section is to ridicule the creators of Steven Universe and everybody who likes it.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
25:30 I thought about pockets too 👌
Pearl’s redesign seemed to be based on Mystery Girl
I completly forgot about the Rocknaldo episode and because of this podcast I had to check it on the wiki. In doing so, I realized the part where Ronaldo says Rock People put "mind controlling minerals" in water to brainwash people is foreshadowing to White Diamond's power. Goddammit Ronaldo
He's always somehow right; I'm suspicious of his powers.
Even Garnet should pay attention to what he says from here on out.
Steven Universe, stop making me cry! :P
It wasn't using its power.
Lol Escapism broke the laws of time and space by being drawn out padding.
Pie and Nick back at it again
I really do hope for season 6 they just do different hijinks with whatever characters just doing light-hearted fun stuff because I really don’t see the series continuing on a good note from here. I’m not gonna lie, this may be the last Steven Universe episode I’ll ever watch because this episode just ended everything where it should be left. We’ll see what happens but I really don’t want to watch this show go through seasonal rot.
(Although if there is a time jump, either forward or back, I’m down because that’ll at least feel like it’s separate from the main series)
I think show already started going through seasonal rot
Maddie Mac & Cheese
Jasper? The human zoo? Many other things that were left open for the movie and season six?
*Hums Familiar*
The human episodes have 2 points. 1 to give a breather between gem heavy episodes and to explore more of Steven's powers. FFS All of his psychic powers are explored in the human episodes, Kiki's delivery, taking over lars, basically all of them. This is important because otherwise Steven would Deus Ex Machina powers out of nowhere.
A movie on the way and the voice actors are still recording. So more SU to come. Loved the episode though.
Puts this video on for some nice background noise for drawing
"Wow, they fit a lot of discussion points in that short timespan"

Seasons 6-9: The crystal gems and the diamonds are gonna have to team up to defeat the almighty creators
Onion?
Rebecca Sugar?
I disagree that the show would've been fine ending without showing the official fusion for Steven and Pearl. Yeah we already knew it was gonna be Rainbow Quartz again, but their new design being left up to interpretation would really bother me.
Is this video unlisted, by any chance? It's not showing up in my subscriptions feed or on your channel page, and I only got a link to it through a tweet.
EDIT: Nevermind, I got a notification earlier this morning, and the video's now appearing in my subscriptions. Still weird how it was in publicity limbo for a while.
It is public :\ RUclips is probably just not showing my video because of algorithm reasons. If people aren't watching the RE-Cast, YT probably assumes they no longer want to watch any of my videos. Thanks for the heads up though.
TMNT 2003 had two "gimmicky" seasons. Season 6 (Fast Forward) and Season 7 (Back to the Sewer). And one of those gimmicks was going back to status quo. :P
Honestly, one could just stop watching TMNT 2003 after the Season 5 finale. You've got your alien Shredder climax, you've got your demon Shredder climax. Call it quits when the show is still good.
I honestly hope that this is the end of steven U. (Minus the movie) because this is pretty much the best end one could wish for (asside a few things.)
There's another season coming.
I think Peridot's shades are a reference to Gurren Lagann. My pfp also has em
The new villain looks less intimidating compared to white diamond.
The movie better not have the animation inconsistencies that the show has
Anybody else notice this finale is ALOT like the Ben 10 Alien Force Season 2 finale? Everyone together fighting the being who considers herself superior. Have to get somewhere to talk to someone to convince them to stop. Both resolutions take place in the throne room of the high breed and white and they both get convinced quickly by becoming imperfect. The high breed get mixed with aliens from the omnitrix so they’re not superior anymore and White Diamond gets turned Off Color. 😂😂
oh yeah,you're right
Ben 10 dud a better job building up the highbreed and making them consistent threats. No stupid filler!
Tao Jones T.jones I agree in the sense that White Diamond should’ve had way more screen time before having her mind changed
I watched it and I loved it quite a lot :D
1:14:22 I was dying when that happened
You know what would be funny if this was the finale to Steven Universe and season 6 gets rebranded to The Crystal Gems focussing not just on steven but on everyone.
I loved this one overall. Would have been content if it really was the series finale. We'll just have to see where it goes from here.
I loved this episode
What if for a mini series Garnet tells Steven about her future vision if in another Universe Steven dies and the course of events that would lead and take place after it.
I’m honestly surprised how much I agree with this video.
I was hoping everyone would fuse like peridot and connie or something
Great discussion! I still wanna know what’s inside the chest in Lion!!
The show was renewed for two more seasons during the production of season 1, both of which were later split in half. I think they just wanted this to serve as a series finale in the event that the show wasn’t renewed again. When asked if this was the last episode, Matt Burnett clarified that it was just the last of the season, and someone from Cartoon Network claimed that there was still a lot more to come.
Im still hoping we'll be getting more episodes with the diamonds in them. It's not that I dislike how they were handled, I freaking loved this episode, but I feel like we need more screen time with yellow and blue, and DEFFINITLY more with white, before I'm convinced that they REALLY understand there problems, and are working to fix not only homeworld, but also there relationships themselves. I want there to be...just...more friction, I guess? It only took Steven like, fifteen minutes to convince her she was wrong? I dunno, I just want to see her struggle with accepting flaws...
Unless Steven us around, we won't see. More likely we will get more fucking filler episodes.
I'm salty because where was PEEDEE.
😆
Steven universe future looks like it’s going to be an improvement
It's over.........isn't it?
KAMINAAAA. KAMINA IS THE ONE WITH THE GLASSES
Onion wasn't seen in the crowd shot, so therefore the Onion is YD/WD theory is still valid
I feel like you'd need to try to nit pick real hard to find major problems with this episode not gonna lie. But I also have so no big.
Been waiting for this
It’s
NOT GONNA END, THE SHOW WILL NEVER END! AFTER THE MOVIE, THE 6TH SEASON WILL HAPPEN TO CONTINUE FROM WHERE THE MOVIE WILL PROBABLY LEAVE OUT FROM, AND THAT WILL CAUSE A MOVIE SEQUAL WICH WILL ALLOW FOR STEVEN UNIVERSE TO GET A 7TH SEASON, THEN 8TH, THEN A PREQUEL THAT PEOPLE WILL HATE UNTIL THE SEQUALS HAPPEN!
Gurren Lagan. Peridot had Kamina’s glasses and Lapis had his pants. Or at least that’s what it looked like.
Nintendo for Smash…I mean ReCast
What about Pearls original owner?
narkissa03 I thought everyone knew it was white diamond
Luca Peyrefitte
But was it ever actually confirmed?
@@drawn_by_starla9462 I got the impression they said she was Pink's Pearl (or Steven's).
That she was part of his stuff according to homeworld.
The white mind control Pearl with one eye also turned pink at the end right? Wonder why?
Runningon Cylinders
Dude, I’m talking about OUR Pearl. Obviously pink pearl belonged to pink diamond and then was given to white diamond. But our pearl was dressed in her original “factory” clothes so either she had just been made or she belonged to a different gem before pink. They never cleared that up and they never gave an actual backstory behind it
@@drawn_by_starla9462 It is kinda odd if she changed hands when Pink was born. Our Pearl belonged to her, and then Rose and Steven allowed her to become more of her own person. A lot can change in 6000 years; maybe there was no issue at the time and she was made for Pink way back when.
46:10 that was one of his pink diamond dreams, that was why it was shown.
You should totally watch she-ra episode 11 is truly fantastic
To solve your problem with Steven reforming villains .....there never was any villains rebecca suger herself has said months ago that there are no villains they are just misunderstood people that's what rebecca says so I mean she clears that up herself soooooo no villains at all in the series
Please watch Wander over Yonder. I would love to see that
I agree! More on the bandwagon to help convince Disney to bring the show back.
Wait was this the movie
Lapis is wearing hakama pants I think.
Isabel Brokaw is that what they're called? Really interesting
@@lucapeyrefitte6899 Yes. But hakama pants used in marital arts are MUCH wider and longer.
THE DIAMONDS SHOULD GIVE CONTROL OF HOMEWORLD TO MAYOR DEWEY

Isn't it a little weird that they didn't get Greg to do anything important this episode? I barely remember if he said anything.
Not really.
No thanks my mind is ferm
Hi PIEGUYRULZ
it's the end of the overarching story planned from 2011
steven can fall faster actually
Onion had the best character arc.
It wasn't weird at all.
Onion grabs the sword of Obsidian at the end and pierces White Diamond's brain.
Then Onion explodes into Orion's Belt..... (THIS IS A REALLY BAD LIE. WHY ARE YOU READING THIS?)
