I was looking for some really "dark" bass sound for my little project and at the end ended up with the short scale with nylon tapewound strings. These little things sound so massive when it comes to it. And yes, they are fun and easy to live with.
I love small basses. I had the model with the rubber strings and they were hard to keep tuned. This is a step up. I have a CNZ and a Hofner Shorty and they are bargains!
Really? That is strange. I have a really cheap model from a much smaller company with very basic (honestly really not that great) tuners and I find that the rubber strings basically never go out of tune.
Dude, the riff you played with distortion, was one of the best riffs I have ever heard from anyone! Please make that into a song or let me know where I can hear it if it a song already.
Pretty cool demo, Patrick 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’ve recently have been seeing small basses similar to that. Only some of them have a single cut body. And since you’ve mentioned rubber bass strings, my brother had one small bass that uses those type of strings. I’ve tried it and it was interesting. Other than that, these basses seem great travel basses.
The tone is just not there for me. i realize it is only $350 but I play a fretless squire bass that I paid $300 for and the tone on that is miles ahead of this Kala bass. Also like Patrick said, given its size, the strings are just too big for it. I play the ukulele as well and I could just imagine playing thick gauge strings on something that size.
the old kala solid body ubass was pretty much an overpriced piece of garbage - huge volume differences string to string from the piezo pickup, no truss rod, rubber stringed, ridiculously overpriced. they were way overdue for a redo. this looks (and is priced) much much better. they're a huge amount of fun.
Honestly, i kinda think they should have made it headless. That would have solved the tuner issue and lightened it even more, assuming they use a lighter weight system.
I have 2 acoustic uke basses. Fretted an fretless. The rubber strings don't really bother me. Super light and fun to play. Both sound pretty good plugged in. Of course they will not be replacing my standard size bass
Hello! Does the tuning hold well or does it cause problems? I bought this Ubass Kala Fretted Solid Body but the strings sound very “metallic” and the tuning is wrong, it is difficult to find the tuning with a clip tuner and it also sounds out of tune, no matter how many times I play a note it doesn't give the correct note? what will it be???
I think dude is a large guy. This is only one inch shorter than a standard electric six-string guitar. I have a 23” short-scale hollowbody guitar that I put bass strings on for a while and it did not really seem “tiny” like a ukulele bass - it just felt like a guitar.

I use to have the acoustic Uke bass before. Was a life saver for gigging when I injured my wrist.

Agreed 100 percent!
Patrick has seriously the best demos and bass tone on RUclips 💯💯💯
What is the pedal used to get this Distorsion sound ? :o
Wasn't expecting 110-50 strings from LaBella. That's double surprising.
Sounds Great Patrick!! I just Finished a whole series on it as well. Very Very Impressed. Great Job! 🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸
As a hack guitar player who loves mucking around on bass, I want one! But it will probably be ~$1000 when it lands in Australia.
😢 it was too real, you didnt need to say it, it was too real.
... * Cries while throwing money into the fireplace *
This is a bass for guitar players lol
basically lol.
Or for those with cramped spaces where a regular bass just gets banging on the desk / walls because it's too big :)
Too big for them
Hahaha I am a bass player and I recommended it to a guitar player
Perfect for ukulele jams where full size basses are not allowed
shorter scale means less overtones which means it sounds way tighter and punchier

This bass is SOOOOOOO cool!😍😍😍😍

that's gotta be the most fun 350 dollars you could ever spend.
and I thought my Squire Mini P Bass was small.
Flatwounds are also now available from Kala
Very smart of them.
The 5 string kala is insane if love to own one but there like 1,500
Looks good for travelling ps love your show dude
Damn... what even is scale length? Did it ever really matter in the first place?
Ofc it does.
To a certain extent tho.
Im gonna be doing a 6 month stint on a ship this year, this looks like a perfect size bass to bring with me
I just ordered the fretless version this morning!
That's pretty neat. I wonder if they make flats for it. Nice demo, Mr Hunter.
me too
There are lots of different string options, but I would recommend some regular bass flats because Ubass strings are insanely overpriced.
Now take that bass to a metal gig and see what reaction you get when people see you with it.
"Look at it it's so cute" "it looks like a regular .....but tiny."Thats what she said.
Well-done critique, loved the distorto part...
Where can purchase 5 string flat-wound or black tape-wound for the kala-5 string solid body

yes, but if the intonation is off the scale, then it will remain garbage
@@godsinbox who is saying that the intonation is off the scale? i haven't seen any reports on this, did i miss something?
seems it´s not in tune
Sounds convincing, yes, but aestethically it looks like you're holding a toy instrument 😅😅😅😅
Actually sounds great for such a tiny bass.
Is the spacing from fret to fret the same as a reg bass?
Well no, that's pretty much the definition of short scale.
Nope! it sounds exactly how I imagined it. Another novelty short scale bass 🤷🏼♂️
Ukala be kidding!
I'd love one of these in a full scale bass. Love that body shape. Anything out there that has a similar body shape but full scale?
How is the sound output level from the g-string compared to the others? I don't think you hit that one in the demo, though I'm not sure.

The notes are the same as those of a normal bass, that is, SOL is on the third fret of the fourth string???
You playing one of these is making me want one in Charlotte FC colors at this point.
great video as always, Patrick 🙂🙂. Not a big fan of the bass though
Perfect for F standard meshuggah stuff.
if this came in fretless it'd be cdope af
It does 🤪
hell yeah@@evoluciontropical5038
Dude! Gotta great your opinion on the t string version!
Edward van Halen has played this bass! 🪨🎯
Use a bow and play it under your chin 😂
I've built a headless 4 and 6 string fretless u-basses, they're rly nice and they make storage so much easier
It looks like a lot of fun.
This is not the best use of $350.
Excellent video, wish they made them left handed
what is the length of the scale?
best alternative to the mayones cali bass ^^
you play really agressive
An electric bass uke! I want. I want now.

It held in tune well for me, perhaps it just needs a set up?
Also quite have this, and also a quite "bell" sound on Low E and A strings.
how do we know its tiny? maybe you have hands like rabea massaad.

So Cool!!!
Super¡
I love it..but i dont think id pay $350 for that..too much. I can buy a full size ok quality bass for that much $$$..just saying.
