I own one of those! I love it. Kala says they're gonna to be coming out with a set of custom flatwounds for it. Now, all you need is a Spark Mini amp and a set of wireless transmitters, and you're good to go. It will all fit in your carryons. I love the idea of stuffing clothes around it to protect.
@@JazMossAfter playing heavy Fender Bass’s for 50 years about the 5 years ago I discovered the Kala acoustic/ electric Bass’s, Gold Tone Micro Bass and the Hofner Bass. My back and playing actually have never been better. I use them for everything from Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, Country and Rock. The Black Thunder strings sound best on my Ubass. Flatwounds on the Hofner. People are shocked at the almost upright sound that comes out of that small Ubass. Don’t knock it until you try it. Right strings for the right instruments does make a huge difference.
From the Kala website: Scale Length: 23.5 inches, Overall Instrument Length: 33.25 inches, Body Length: 15.125 inches, Number of Frets: 22, Width at Upper Bout: 10.25 inches, Width at Lower Bout: 8.25 inches, Body Depth: 1.5 inches
Hey Jaz. For those of us who receives your news/subscribe-mails: There you write that this bass a 33-inch bass. Is that correct? It looks smaller than that. I have tried 32 inches and 30 inches. To me this one looks more like the latter. Not just the look but the differences you describe compared usual 34 inches also indicates that it's more than an inch's difference. 😕 Btw: This is or can be important for me. I'm getting older and my strength and tendons are not as they used to be, so for that reason a small-scale bass is becoming more relevant. 👍
Good question. It depends if I'm just recording or casually playing I'll just bring my audio interface, laptop, and headphones when traveling. If I'm doing a gig abroad there's usually an amp already there. 🙂

Cool! Do you mainly use it at home or do you also use it in a band set up? :-)
@JazMoss I take it to ukulele jams. In a real band, heavens no. Kala just came out with their custom flatwounds for it, and I ordered a set.

Thanks for the great review! It would be awesome a comparison between the kala solid body ubass and the blackstar carry on mini bass.... 😁😁 🌞🌞
That's actually a good idea! Will take note of that :-)
I can't believe I've been missing out on this channel. Subscribed!

Now I saw some previous comments below - that answer my questions.
Hey, apologies for the confusion. The overall length of this instrument is 33", with a scale length of 23.5".
Jazz, I love the deep sound of that bass! Is there a model number on it?
I love its deep sound too! Here it is: UBASS-SB-BK-FS
How does the sound level from the G string compare to the other three strings?
Hi, nice video! Did the strap come with the bass, or did you have to order that separately?
Thank you. The strap came with the bass :-)
Don't you need to bring an amp?

I think it is rather 23" than 33"
yea I thought it was some foldable bass when first I clicked, but its just 23 inches
Hey there! Sorry for the confusion! But yes, the scale length is 23.5" and the overall instrument length is 33".
