Rock crawlers run propane because it’s a sealed system. If they flip over the gas doesn’t leak out.
And refill the tanks at TSC its alot cheaper than swapping out
well you asked, put a seat on the engine and use the engine mount holes to add 2 wheel drive with steering. crazy but what a riot.
It’s much cheaper to get your own propane tank filled then it is to do those exchange programs, i can fill a 20lbs tank at costco here in Canada for like 12$ (8-9$ US)
Propane is around 4.2 lbs per gal.
It changes a little depending on outside temperature.
a 40lb tank holds around 9.5~ gallons.
I would suggest having a 20 or 10lb tank on the Go cart. and a 100lb to refill he little ones.
Invert the big tank with a line to the little tank, submerge the little tank in cool water and it will fill it rather quickly. Having the big tank in some sun will help as well.
Its possible to do it without a upside down tank using the hot cold trick, but will take a much longer time.
Back in the 90's I had a small engine shop. I'm familiar with the Honda 670 propane that was on a commercial floor buffer. What I used to do for my customers was polish the combustion chamber (yes, piston, valve faces & inside the head) this lowered the temp of the engine, but it kept the deposits that you get from running propane WFO for hours at a time. Might help ya, never know.
It keeps th white deposits I had to clean every couple months. Hope this makes better sense.
For us in NW Canada I would add that gas is more cold start friendly than propane but I liked this vid alot. Amazing where small engines are going now a days!! Red Beard FTW as always!!!
eastern canada to i drive a 420 swapped golfcart year round, march of 2021 i had to put a magnetic block heater on the bottom of the engine plate to get it to even turn over at -40

a duel fuel would be great for long distance like a trail day or a charity ride that way when you run out of gas you can switch to propane to get to a gas station

Octane Rating of HD-5 standard motor fuel LPG/Propane is 105 ! Propane likes more initial ign. advance but more like gasoline up top rpm & retard some w/boost. See book "Propane Fuel Conversions for Automotive Engines" by Jay Storer. It has a chapter on Turbo/Propane combos, FTW. Another chapter on Ign. upgrades & timing settings. Let it rip Greg! Thanks! Seems to me that if the engine will run for 3.5 hrs on 104 octane 15lb propane tank that costs roughly 30 dollars and will run for 4 hrs on two tanks, (three gallons) of 110 octane race gas that costs 10 dollars per gallon ... its ultimately cheaper to run race gas than propane. math is fun. ps at 1.00 when unboxing something heavy, turn it upside down, cut the bottom open and roll the unit over (right side up) to where you can just lift off the box. as an interwebs influencer, you could start a whole trend of smooth unboxing.
I put a propane carb on my stock hisun motor (Coleman CT200U-EX). Bike runs and drives fine but definitely lost power compared to gas. Exhaust smells……different, and the carb adjustment is rather finicky, I’ve struggled to get it properly adjusted. Either backfires on acceleration or upon deceleration seems like no matter how much I play with the mixture I haven’t found the sweet spot yet.
there is a idea for a mini bike build ? Use that motor and tank and make a custom mini that will hold both.
Is there a way to add more advance on these to take advantage of the extra octane? Would be cool to see if there is a noticeable power difference!
You shave your woodruff key just a bit on the side and tighten the flywheel with it turned in advance direction.
@@bryduhbikeguy sounds like it would work! I have used offset keys in SBC and Ford applications. Do they make them for these cranks? Might even use the same keys 🤷♂️ Just not that familiar with the mods for small engines
Id like to see if oyu can put this dual fuel carb on your built 440 and see if you can tune it in to run good

40lb = 8hrs, 15lb = 3hrs, 1lb 10 to 15mins possibly? Seems to be 5lbs per hour is used to run that. So safe to assume 1lb bottles will last 10 or so minutes. But still be good for back up fuel supply for emergency purposes.

Turbo or supercharger with the propane or even nitrous?
I just purchased the gas 440 for my golf cart about a month before this video dropped and literally have parts al over the shop floor right this minute doing the swap. How much is different, i.e how hard would it be to convert one of the regular 440's to dual fuel? I would be interested in this because my cart sits unused for 6 months a year and a BBQ tank would be easier to deal with than draining bad gas, etc.

Is it true that propane is similar to fuel injection because it's a pressurized system? I hear it's nice to have for situations that are on uneven terrain were a gas carb would stall out the propane will stay running? Just curious?

So if you run on fuel for a while and then run on Propane does it clean out the deposits left behind from the fuel?
No, it just won’t add any more deposits on top of what’s already there. You need some kind of liquid to clean carbon deposits, like water or seafoam. Water in a spray mist bottle through the intake (like half a bottles worth… 1 spray every couple seconds) will clean it up nicely.

@@FerrariTeddy Only if you feed it in way too fast, you just want a slow fine mist of water so that it just turns to steam in the engine and goes out the exhaust
@@FerrariTeddy No, not even close. The amount of water in 1 spray/squeeze is like a teaspoon at most. The volume of air in a 212cc engine at TDC is several ounces. You’d have pour several ounces in the intake for one engine rotation for it to hydrolock.
It'd be interesting to see if you can put so much propane in one to see it freeze because if the flow of the propane is to high you can actually freeze the block. I've just always wanted to see it happen
