    According to an Ammunition Data Card from 2009, this is the load for M118LR:
    Federal Cases (military uses modified Federal GMM cases)
    Federal GM210M primers
    41.745 grains IMR 4064
    SMK 175 grain HPBT
    COAL 2.83
    Your 41.5 grain load looks to be a good M118LR copy. Nicely done.

    • @DummyRound

      Awesome. Thanks for the info. I need to load some and verify the charge.

  • @chaddfry5345
    @chaddfry5345 2 года назад +4

    Great start to that load! You can confirm the results of the 41.5 gr load and/or do some seating depth tests on the 43.0 or 42.5 loads. Great stuff!

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад +2

      I'll probably load a few back at 41.5 just to confirm it or see if I got lucky first. After that I definitely want to play with seating depth at a higher charge. Thanks!

      Going to load some to confirm at that weight and then play around at 42.5gr with some seating tests as well. How fast was your SW Match Rifle load going? I have some of that to play with as well. Thanks, brother!

      @@DummyRound Using Hornady brass, Federal #210, my SW Match powder went well with an OAL of 2.800" (magazine length), 43.5 grains at about 2,609fps out of a 26" barrel with 1:11.25 RH twist.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, good to know. It is a lot cheaper than 4064 and I have a lot more of it as well! I'll probably give it a try here soon after I'm finished with 4064.

    43.1gr is my load with 175 SMK. Anywhere from 42.6 to 43.6 is good but 43.1 and 43.2 are best for my SPS 20" 1-10 twist. My case base to shoulder is 1.4845 with a .002 bump. 5 rounds in a .383 hole just about every time as long as i dont sneeze or anything....

    Well done, nice to see another .308 shooter. Same power, but at 45c 175gr speers and / or burger, same primer. 600m stacing em bullseye out to 800m one hit.....the wind was wicked that day....switching every 10 secs. Howa M1500 APC chassis .308.....i think is dialed in....ready for some FClass competitions.

    I'm not sure why everyone fawns over Federal's GMM.
    I took some 175's from Federal (Gold Medal Match), Norma (Golden Target Match) and PPU (match) and from my rifle the PPU grouped the best at just under 0.75". @ 2607fps.

    • @DummyRound

      Idk, either. I've never shot the factory ammo, or any of the ones you listed. Seems like it was what people wanted to shoot before all the 6mm and 6.5mm came out in the last few years/decade. My gun likes the projectiles so that's what I use most often. Thanks👍👊🇺🇸

      I've been loading 175gr Matchking for a little over 5 years. I found the consistency of their bullet very good compared at the time price for price. I have used IMR4064 in Federal, Winchester and Lapua brass. Winchester is for the money better in my opinion than Federal. Lapua being the best out of the the 3 per times loaded. I have one lot with 12 loadings. Pockets are still good and last outing to 1000 yards yielded great accuracy. No line inside or out and I checked each case just to see with a bent paper clip dragging up inner wall. In warm weather Hodgdon CFE223 give me best velocity but is more temp sensitive. I found it shot below .36 and almost exact same point of aim from 45.0 to 46.0 gr. 46 had a little flattening in hot weather so I settled on 45.5gr. 2.800 COAL. CCI #200 primer in Redding S die and Competition seater. That CFE223 load in my stock Savage FCP 10 heavy barrel is very very accurate to 1000 and has been to 1200 with excellent results. Varget did well with accuracy but velocity wasn't as good. However temp stability is excellent. If you do try CFE223 sometime remember it spikes pretty quick but gets best consistency and accuracy in the upper nodes in my testing.
      Your 42.5 load with a little seating depth work may give you a good load with better velocity.
      Nice video.

    Id be looking at which cases each data provider used. Anything using Federal, IMI, PPU, or Hornady generally has lower case capacity.
    I worked up my first 308win load with 4064, with speer 165gr BTSP and its a good powder. I'll try it in 7mm-08, as ive heard it performs well in that as well.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  Месяц назад

      Yeah, that would have helped. 308 and 7.62 can have a huge swing in capacity from brand to brand. Always have to start low and work up because of that.
      4064 is one of my favorites, but it's $60+/lb these days and I can't afford that 🤣

    The factory load is 41.6gr of 4064, buuut, federal gold medal match brass has way less case capacity than other 308 brass. In my lapooooah I need something like 42.5ish to get the same velocity

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  2 года назад

      I'm going to go again but in some brass I didn't pick up from the mud. Seems like a great bullet and powder combo. I have some N140 I want to try. Supposed to be pretty awesome for accuracy, but I'm not sure how hot it can push the 175s. I can only go out to 450y if nobody else is at the range, so I don't really need any extra velocity, anyways.

    • @DummyRound
      @DummyRound  5 месяцев назад

      I'm not certain but it probably varies between Reloder 15 and/or a proprietary powder from Alliant, since Vista owns that pile of companies. But, I'm just guessing based on very little research. Thanks!

    • @DummyRound
