    It’s finally here then. Hope you enjoy the video (I know there are a lot out there...! Hopefully ours is the most in-depth). I can already see from the comments that the looks are splitting opinion... For what it’s worth I prefer the back to the front and I think the basic Commercial variants look the best of the lot.

      I like it . Its going to be very good off road clearly. It doesnt have the lego like appeal of the old one though. Meaning, bolt on replacement parts as needed., year after year. Consequently I cant imagine them being as useable in 20 plus years. The die hards will hate that.

      It really is good considering the numbers and how they have managed to match the performance but this is too futuristic for the fan base. Such a massive change should be more progressive and over a longer time. This is too much at once for the die hards but still a cool car and would love to own one. Dont know about that 'signature' panel though haha. Great video!

      @Justinian Yi The Range Rover specifically didn't become more successful. The entire segment did.
      I'm sure they did market research. That doesn't mean it is done successfully. Considering "Jaguar Land Rover made the biggest loss in its history last year."
      We do know that the waiting list for a Jimny and G-Class is now over a year.

    • @whatsoevertianyu
      @whatsoevertianyu 5 лет назад +10

      @Justinian Yi I think they did, BUT, the market has shifted since its inception. The market is getting saturated and people start to dislike those generic luxury SUV anymore. Unfortunately, I think JLR decided the Defender's principle long time ago (probably before 2016). Now it end up with a sort new "Discovery" rather than the iconic Defender. Saddly, this might but a fine vehicle but just not the one to carry the Defender nameplate.

    • @mikewhitehead50
      @mikewhitehead50 5 лет назад +2

      you can call it fisherprice, playmobile or whatever looks, but the build and capabilities clearly aren't. the number of people who want something that looks like a classic defender are very few, so it's not worth sacrificing the functionality and capability of the car for that.

    You'd think Land Rover would have learnt from the overwhelming success of the new Suzuki Jimny and Landcruiser 70 series. There is a massive thirst for solid axle, simple, old school 4x4s. Land Rover had the perfect opportunity to do something great with the Defender in a similar vein. But instead went with independent suspension all round, air suspension, 85 ECU's and an electronic switch to open the tailgate... I dare say this is the last nail in the coffin for Land Rover.

Its only very stupid people that claim the original is 'good', its a pile of scrap, an overpriced one at that. It drives like you've fallen down a flight of stairs and rusts worse than the Titanic. Real farmers buy pickups for actual farm work and/or a disco 3/4 for added comfort. I can actually see this doing really well with people who would have bought the disco 5, had it not been an insult to anyone blessed with the gift of sight. I hope this does well for them.

      I worked at JLR on the D7a platform (XF, XE, F-Pace) and had the opportunity to see what the teams at Land Rover SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) do with standard cars to make them purpose ready. This defender was on the drawing board and in the clay room way back then in 2011, so I would hazard a guess that they’ve integrated as many of the use cases of the Original Defender into the platform, so you will see ambulances and fire trucks, power company hi-lifts, UN transport vehicles.
      That’s why it’s taken so long, because they knew what was riding on such a prestigious reputation and an owner/fan base who are more opinionated than the Apple/Android fanboys and girls out there.
