Do you think the new Defender lives up to the hype?!
No it looks like a kia soul
Most reviewers seem to be missing the point. It looks great (though a little too freelander-like for me) but the owners of the previous defender loved it for 2 reason: Simplicity, low cost of maintenance and repair and extensive modifiability. This on the other hand is yet another Discovery/Range off-shoot in terms of complexity and cost.
LR could have made a vehicle to get more of the off-road/wrangler/land cruiser market but this thing will appeal more to the urban set than country folk. It's going to cannibalise the discovery market share.
@@chalzsn2828 That's a small market. I want to be comfortable while I'm on the highway as well (Unlike Jeep Wranglers). I think they nailed it.
Its growing on me. Tad bit expensive though. But then again, it's a JLR. Half that price is you buying into the brand.
Yes, love it!
Rory is amazing. The only review I need to watch is Rory on Auto Trader.
Totally agree. Watching all way from macau
Allegedly he acquired his licence when he opened a Lucky Bag.
It's all about reliability, if they can prove that then I'm sold.
I agree.
I’d never buy a Land Rover they’re utterly unreliable. Go on any highway and you’ll see Porsche, Land rovers and Vauxhall Corsa
Find the video of the jaunt across Namibia. The cars went through some pretty tough terrain and never missed a beat. Not one rattle at the end of it. Top Gear, Carfection etc were on it.
Reliability doesn't matter if you're only leasing the vehicle like 85% of people.
Drive what makes you happy.
@@Jojohumf I love my td5 defender, but for ultimate reliability get a Toyota. For some odd reason the land Rover has a better feel good factor and feels more robust.
James May got fired from Autotrader and went to Top Gear and Rory got fired from Top Gear and is at Autotrader now
How long ago , did this happen?? Recently like in the last 12 months !
Why did he got fired
Perfect exchange of talent. ;)
Does anyone even watch top gear theses days?
Tarun Kumar ... nope, and I’ve been watching it for over a decade
This guy does a very good review. The way he describes how things operate is most informative and makes sense. Well done. Im a fan.
mate your review is crisp and clear...amazing!!
Another great review, can’t wait to see the Defender 90 on the road. Also have to say I wasn’t keen on Rory on Top Gear but really enjoy his reviews now. Much more natural and engaging.
Love it, a cracking vehicle, you can keep all the rest, I went to the Defender event at Stratstone Newcastle and was quite taken by the 110 on show, I owned a 110 12 seat County and every time I turned the key we felt we were embarking on an adventure, this new one takes adventure to a new much higher level.
You have done the car justice great video, from what I’ve seen out the factory the defender out preforms all in its class including the top wrangler
Amazing, Top gear definitely lost a very talented journalist
Why was he fired?
Must say this guy is way above all car presenters . Pleasure to watch without getting annoyed like with others and silly jokes .
@@Jojohumf Because They had 2 many presenters and Matt Leblanc wanted it to be just him and Chris Harris. Nothing that Rory did. It was a big hole to fill after Clarkson and co left.
Leon Henry I thought he got the sack because they lost Le Blanc because he didn’t want to travel to film it in the U.K. anymore so they decided to replace Rory with one of the 2 new presenters and only kept Harris on?
Cisco Network Designer/Engineer . Yes jezza
Great review, thanks a lot.
I have a Discovery 3 and the Defender will be our next off roader. And yes it does work off road. Just need to make sure I can attach a Nato Pintle to it.
Best Defender review of all the mor review channels so far Rory, well done mate, you and chris were the dream team!
Superb review that I just watched this evening, 26 March 2022, for the first time. I drove Series Land Rovers from 1964 to 1993. I've been driving Jeeps since April 2012. When I'm ready to buy my next "car," I'll give the new generation Land Rover Defender as objective a test as Rory Read does with his reviews. Thanks for the outstanding job with this, Rory! You just may have provided the review that tips the scale that'll return me to what long had been my favorite automotive marque! Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Hawaii.
great review. however, will LR service centers still be open during quarantine for all the breakdown and warranty repairs?
Stay safe and continue to make these great reviews! Favourite car journalist at the moment!
I too was privileged to spend 2 days driving the pre-production versions at Land Rovers’ Eastnor Castle visitor experience centre. WOW 🤩 their refined prowess and unflappable competence quite literally blew our socks, gloves, hats and everything else off. This car is the real McCoy, it is a genuine game-changer ✊
Day Hiking for Oldies by Tim & Dinks Thoughts on reliability?
Mechanicals & electronics absolutely bulletproof (so say the JLR experience drivers) and the SatNav software is just as reliable as it’s always been 🙄
Don't drink the koolaid.
My Pick for 2020 SUV of the Year.
Great as usual.stay safe Rory
Great review. I love that the host is excited like I would be to drive it.
Love this review. Can’t wait to see one
Hey Rory! It looks like you have been working in a mine, your jeans are all muddy. 🤣🤣 Geat review!
Watching the Autocar video first, made me realize how good Rory really is😋
Great review, best i have seen
David DeChambeau welldone
Its always pleasure to watch your reviews.
Great review mate.
How many people will buy it for the off-road riding? Despite the engineering and the new technology embarked in i definitely use this Defender mainly as a SUV than off-road elephant. Brilliant review showing the practicality of this new Defender in City streets and Off-roads. Thank you.
This one actually looks better when it's dirty and covered in mud !
That's the beauty of these english SUVs

Great review,want one now
Nice to see you online
Land Rover has always been my favorite car manufacturer and the defender series is my favorite car
❤️from Taiwan
Loved those views of Ledbury.... magic place with some great Land Rover hunting grounds.
Great job as always
Great vid as usual from Rory. But did he make those trousers from a kit?!
Great review! What is yhe configuration of the car used?
The ultimate car of all time and it is amazing.
Rory you rock!
love your work.
Nice review
Well done Rory. You have found your niche. Excellent and entertaining review. Keep them coming. Come do some reviews in our countryside. Azgher. Cape Town. South Africa
This is a fabulous review! I guess this is by far the best off-road vehicle ever! Or is it? Either way it’s worth every penny
Not really. Independent suspension will always make it a 4WD compromise
Absolutely great review! I don't even drive, and I want one!!!
Great review on a great SUV
If it Breaks Down !! Do Land Rover Garantee to provide the same model temporary loan car whilst its being repaired ??????????
You definitely have one of the best jobs I can think of, congrats mate!
Excellent review, New defender really is a workhorse!
Really good review Rory wish i had bought one.
Rory Reid!! You have the Chops to make it in the US Man! Dream Big and Head To The USA and put a different FACE ON this Automotive Journalism Game!! You can do it Man! Mr.Wright
Is there word when the 90 will be released yet?
Seen this reviewed before yet Rory makes it seem very new and refreshing.
Great review.........................like to see Rory back in Top Gear.
Best review I have seen ! and I laughed, I love this vehicle! I have AWD on my SUV... I live in LA and people give me "feedback" about why do you have all wheel drive. like dude so have you ever been in a rainstorm where the streets are flooded up to the wheel-wells b/c the infrastructure can't keep up, the crappy streets are worse and the horrible drivers are now improvising but you need to get to your destination... thats why... maybe some day when I grow up I can afford an LR Defender with air suspension
I am with you on the logic. Here in Houston the roads are horrendous and eat suspensions on luxury sedans, especially all around air. My LS460 with optional sport tuned air suspension is shocking on our horrible roads. Some Euro SUVs ride like lumber wagons. I find however that many SUVs do better. Plus, we also have flooding issues. In luxury sedans we are better off with non air setups. It’s crazy.
Get this dude a tv show dang!
Love this colour and wheel combo 👍🏻
what color is it?
Okay, I am sold. Thank you.
Rory is one of the better Car Reviewers right now, his communication is excellent, many other of the current motoring journalists on RUclips have been relying on those irritating Dad's jokes. Will subscribe now.
Great presentation, very likeable presenter. Very different from my Td5!
Спасибо ! Недавно провёл тест - драйв на 2020 Land Rover Defender 110. Впечатления самые лучшие ! Англичане опередили в этом классе и немцев и японцев Крутой автомобиль !
solid review
The production on these videos is excellent.
delivery in style...keep it up 👍
Awesome ❤
Anyone have an idea what color this Defender is? Thanks!
Factory fitted wrap that protects the car when you're driving off road or through "South London."
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
#OYAB
Satin protective wrap to protect you from.... south London 😂🤣
I never found a place that my Kombi could not take me! and I went 8 times around Australia!
Has there been an opportunity to test the new Defender ? in the current real life major floods occurring in China this June 2020.
It’ fits you Rory, and you look great in it 👍🏾
The other thing that is brilliant is Rory’s storytelling abilities and oh so positive energies.
One other thing….After reviewing this episode, I imagined owning a Defender. Coming from me that says a lot. I hardly even think cars / SUV make sense anymore.
Nice to see you
Hard as nails. Great review of a very classy British icon. The Defender for the 21st century.
those tailights are bad ass
Great review as always Rory. Top job 👍
I like to see this Defender 110 go to the Rubicon Peak......this is the place for the real heavy off roader vehicle go to.........
Looks cool
Brilliant review Rory, quite informative.
I'm on the market for a new SUV and have had reservations about this unit body/frame constructed Defender.. I currently have a Toyota 4Runner (My second one because they are absolutely amazing) so i want something different that is as capable off road.. I have seen leaked photos today of 2 models of the Bronco and it reminded me a lot of this Defender, but of course better being body on frame.. There is even a 2 door one as well, it looks awesome.. I am waiting for that to be unveiled this year
Great video, extremely well narrated and shot. The new Landi looks great too.
I think it’s a job well done 👍-
Will there be a 3 litre diesel?
Absolutely love it
amazing!!
AMAZING CAR
MUST GET FOR ME
Great presentation, your the first review who included urban diving which is your average driver, well done ♥
Problem is that from Rory's comments, the waiting time for new toilet rolls is probably longer than the waiting time for a new Defender:-(
one of the most underrated motoring presenters in the UK... I'm only here because Rory talks sense
Was that Newport, Shropshire high street at 1:21?
The old Defender was one of the most loved Overlanders. Because it was rugged, fixable and you didn't even need a screen to see the rear.
The new Land Cruiser does that, but how far overland will this ever go?
With the many variants of RR and Disco, appealing to all the urban folk, they have taken alot of love out from their rugged outdoor people.
Its telling that there is no open version.
Great review, Rory and the AutoTrader Team! Interesting to see the 240 diesel on the road; we ordered our Defender 110 in February - Lord knows when we can take delivery. Stay home, stay safe everyone
Neil Joseph congrats
Lucky you...Thanx for Blessings..
So I wasn't sure......and then I saw one in the flesh! OMG. If JLR can sort out reliability then they will surely sell these by the bucket load. Fabulous looking thing, so much more so when you see one in your rear view mirror!
Looks amazing but I have only seen fully enclosed cabins versions, so when will we see a soft top version or pick up style?
Anthony Baldock: Why?? Have you seen how plug ugly the soft top Evoque is.... There’s one up near me and it’s driven by a woman in her 50’s. It all screams wrong in so many ways. It’s not stylish it’s not effective and it’s unreliable.
You won't see one. Probably no towing hitch either, These are only made for wealthy posers!
Where do we put 6 sheep or fence posts and wire?
I felt that splash and am not even the cameraman tehehehe!!
I’m sure Land Rover will be using this vid as principal marketing gear; this video is “awesome” !
What Warranty is on the Vehicle ????????
Great review
Love your top
No. Unless you live in the very remote place. But in this case Land Cruiser will be better anyway.
Excellent review really enjoyed. Thank you
Rory is honest, if he says this Defender is good I'm listening. I wonder though, is it reliable? Will it stand the test of time?
Completely agree, Alexandra.
I do think that it seems to have lost the soul of the original; it doesn’t have any resemblance to the old design, but as this is going to be “it”, as you say, ‘will it be reliable’?
I can’t see it standing the test of time, but perhaps it’ll be a favourite to a different group of people. Just not the farmers anymore.
That’s the question I want answered as well... the outgoing’s reputation with reliability was so bad 🤔
Nothing stands the test of time
@@miyahtallulah Hey! When I read "nothing" I geek out so badly, that I had to delete the block of text I wrote...
let's just quote:
Cecelia Ahern - 'Nothing is never nothing. It's always something.'
When I was about 5 years old I tried to imagine nothingness, like it would have been before the Big Bang, and I nearly went crazy! I really took it seriously for that age, and was stuck there for a while. Funny thing is that I thought I would have the answers when I got older, but I still don't have a clue...
If energy cannot be created nor destroyed, doesn't that mean that at least energy can stand time? Are we made of energy?
The steel wheels look amazing, they make the alloys look tacky.
I want one!
I can't say my trip to Tescos or dropping the kids off at school requires navigating through these "waterways". Thank goodness we have roads. :)
I have no doubts whatsoever about what the new Defender can do with the technological upgrades. But it would would have been perfect if LR did that while retaining the original shape of the vehicle and giving some leeway for aftermarket mods.
