The same goes for most Land/Range Rover owners who never really use their vehicles off-road. They are "mall runners". The only thing people "carry" in them really is a credit card. Those vehicles are "more show than go" as just status symbols. For example, how many bicycle racks or tow hitches do you see on the back of them? Exactly. This car is clearly nothing more than a vanity project - built to have million inch kahn alloys bolted on and gold chains draped from the head lining. Sort of "let's take the Defender for a drive past Harrods to prove how much money we have" type deal.
If the wealthy didn’t have their cars then it would never trickle down to us commoners though. 90% of the cars featured nobody can really afford. If they can most of the time they don’t have a family or still live at home. The only car I realistically can afford and would want is a 2000 Nissan micra 1.4 with a turbo and sleeper mods. Or maybe an octavia estate with a re map.
@@alexclipper7608 My personal choice would be the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, but it is larger and having four doors and boot space is maybe making it to practical although the crazy performance is still there. Same thing with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and the Mercedes G-Wagon 63. Then there is the Porsche Macan GTS, smaller than the Jeep although still four door, itdoes the 0-60 like the Defender only it drives better. And there is the Bowler Nemesis which I suppose is more race car than SUV really.
@@bzdtemp Cherokee, Cayenne and so on are exactly SUVs. Not off-road trucks. Don’t know how the G-wag flew over my head, but yeah, it’s the only thing comparable. And the Bowler is a coach-built race car, that’s another dimension. About the four doors - once again, the Def V8 is available in 110.
Modern three door vehicles aren't meant to be a family haulers. The rear seats in this are more for 'emergencies' and should be considered part of the luggage compartment. Whether that price is appropriate for a glorified two seater is another question, but Land Rover obviously thinks there is a market.
My opinion: I think we will be seeing a lot more of these typenof cars going to market. My reasoning is as follows: Electric cars are awesome, no doubt about it, however, the sound, mechanics and cogs working together in a ICE car, well, a electric car cannot do that. As ICE cars are on its way out in the not so far future, I think manufacturers are going out with a bang with their V8 and other big engines. Cars are meant to put a smile on your face even if you go to the shop. If a Daewoo Matiz does that for you, great, if a V8 does it for you, great. I think lets get the last of the "crazy" no sense cars and have fun with them while we can and before it ends.
Yeah but the point of the V8 defender is to bring back the heritage of the brand Land Rover has offered their customers a V8 model it’s nostalgic. Unlike Ford with the bronco which offered a V8 you can’t get that anymore. To me it’s about having the open to go all out. The sound that in itself is enough. V8 are going away it’s nice to have the option.
As the former owner of a 1971 Series IIA 88" I remember when a Land Rover was a Land Rover. This 90" simply is not. Too bad Rover Company shuttered years ago and all that remains is the badging. If I wanted a Range Rover, I'd probably look at something by another company. Sure, this 90 looks cool(ish), but if you want aesthetics rather than a real Land Rover, knock yourself out. For me, I'd rather have my Series Rover back than get something that raises my blood pressure every time I even think about parking lot dings and road tar. Thanks for a really fantastic review! Very well done. I like the honest criticism PLUS the infectious appreciation of the V8 90" - it is a looker. Cheers!
I honestly don't get why moving the seats back and and front for passengers going to the back seats are electric in modern days.....i find it irritatingly slow, especially in the BMW x7 that I had a few months ago, such need to be manual and fast.
Totally agree. In such a case less is more. Can it be moved manually if you wish to? Like the power trunk on my XJ can be pushed down by hand or you push the button; either way is fine.
Totally agree. £100,000 is triple the price of its rivals such as a Toyota Hilux, no body on frame so difficult to customise, massive wheels which would need upgrading to 17/18inch wheels, road tyres which need to come off immediately, 5.0L v8 wont get anywhere near 40mpg which is expected these days in most cars. It would cost about £300 a week in fuel haha. Why does an offroader need to do 0-60 in 4 seconds? I dont think ive ever floored mine
I now have 200 miles on my 110 V8 Carpathian …. Wow … I live in Colorado. I drove it over the mountains today. Yeah its not as ‘cushy’ as my excellent L405 3:0 TD6 (BTW 50k miles / flawless / brilliant / will not sell it until it lets me down) … but … the glorious / silliness of the engine, and, I’m being respectful of running-it-in! The last V8 I had was ~8 years ago on a Cayenne Turbo (a good vehicle / but not great) … this vehicle (if its as reliable as my RR or the Cayenne) .. will be ‘great’ … perfect combination of dogs in back practicality / ruggedness but comfortable on / and mild-off road experience (mine will NEVER go to Moab, although it could [according to RUclips people] but with different [non 22’’] wheels). It’s way more offroad capable than I will ever need it to be. As I described it to a friend the other day …. A grown-up, road trip worthy, lux, silly, Jeep Rubicon on V8 steroids. Love it!

Quite agree Rory, had one for 2 weeks, totally impractical, you forgot to mention the 9cm lip behind the rear seats that don't actually fold flat. Add the 5ltr to a 110 then that's another ballgame!
Everything about this SUV is just top notch other than the fact that it is a 2-row SUV! Cz, it's purely a two seater, Off Road Monster with ultimate power under the bonnet to tackle not just the difficulty in off road but also to crunch the longer distances when you move from one state to another! I see a lot of European and American People does that, when they decide to go for a round trip or a vacation. Even for a 5 people situation, we can go with 110 as it has got all the boxes ticked right from practical space for passengers and their luggage and off road utilities. So, as for me it's the POV from which people see it. Cz, I won't buy a 90 V8 for 5 people but only for me and a friend or a partner not just for an adventurous trip but also for an adventurous ride as well. So, in many aspects it makes perfect sense. Cz, I won't even consider clogging 3 people in the back of a 90 unless it is an emergency or a very short ride.
My old defender 90 is definitely more practical than this. Bench seat in the back is easy to get into using the back door and it still leaves a massive amount of space for luggage.
The Huge difference in price is that everything is included in the car. Every single option. If you do that on the entry level, the difference isn’t that huge. The 3 doors looks awesome. But, for me please the 5doors….

This car is clearly nothing more than a vanity project - built to have million inch kahn alloys bolted on and gold chains draped from the head lining. Sort of "let's take the Defender for a drive past Harrods to prove how much money we have" type deal.
Spot on.
What’s wrong with vanity projects?
If the wealthy didn’t have their cars then it would never trickle down to us commoners though.
90% of the cars featured nobody can really afford. If they can most of the time they don’t have a family or still live at home. The only car I realistically can afford and would want is a 2000 Nissan micra 1.4 with a turbo and sleeper mods. Or maybe an octavia estate with a re map.
@@TheYBGOON you’re reasoning stands for vehicle such as the s-class but not this land-rover with a v8 dropped in
@@alexclipper7608 You need to lookup the word “vanity”.
Love the look of it! Love the interior and exterior and especially that Jaguar Land Rover V8😍😍😍
There is no reason to ever pick this version of the 90 but its absolutely the one i would buy if i could get one
Regardless of it's practically, it's got a growling V8 instead of a washing machine motor, nice to see a real vehicle being tested for once
I don't car how well it handles in the corners, I just want one. Certainly one for my ever growing lottery win garage
Why 🤮🤮🤮🤮 total garbage. Get a track hawk for less.
@@luisamoa2500
And spend lifetime getting your shitehawk towed 😂
@@luisamoa2500 says get a track hawk over a defender 🙄
That last statement before going off screen… that’s why most of us are here! Magic Rory. Magic!
The 110 with this engine would be the one to have for me.
Top review mate! Got a P400 xs on order. Can't wait
This could as well be a future classic. Huge power in a relatively small truck.
Lots of better choices out there.
@@bzdtemp can’t think of anything except for Wrangler 392, which is more of an ATV than a car, so not really
Is it really small? It’s very tall
Modern three door vehicles aren't meant to be a family haulers. The rear seats in this are more for 'emergencies' and should be considered part of the luggage compartment. Whether that price is appropriate for a glorified two seater is another question, but Land Rover obviously thinks there is a market.
Words I never thought i'd ever hear Land Rover and brilliant engine 🤣
Rory's reviews have uplifting attitude & swag! 👌🔥🔥🔥
You mean, the exaggerated swagger?
It doesn't make any sense as a Land Rover Defender. When you start to look at it as an alternative to the Bowler Wildcat it makes a lot of sense.
SWB Defender was never meant to have rear seats - it just doesn't work if you want any boot space.
My opinion: I think we will be seeing a lot more of these typenof cars going to market. My reasoning is as follows:
Electric cars are awesome, no doubt about it, however, the sound, mechanics and cogs working together in a ICE car, well, a electric car cannot do that.
I can't think of one reason why someone would buy this car. However, I'm quite sure I'll see dozens of them driving round London.
That laggy touch screen at 3:53 kills me, how can it be that bad when you're splashing that much cash down on a brand new car.
I’d rather have this than a G class
Cheers!
Well if it makes absolutely no sense it's the perfect car, I want one.
I'd love this in full farmer spec, dull green paint, white roof, steel wheels and moss.
Very impractical for the people who would never truly consider it , very practical for the bachelor’s of the world who will actually buy it 🤷🏽♂️
Buy the 110
Thank you, great review.
2:46 Why can't it just be manually slid forward???? It's daibolical!!!
Bro!!! That seat would drive me nuts
Great video!! I think the practicality is not there compared to today's SUVs but I think it will become iconic with time just like other 3 door SUVs.
Land rover insist that it is NOT an SUV but a 4x4 all terrain vehicle
Would you call the older previous defender an SUV?
I honestly don't get why moving the seats back and and front for passengers going to the back seats are electric in modern days.....i find it irritatingly slow, especially in the BMW x7 that I had a few months ago, such need to be manual and fast.
Totally agree. In such a case less is more. Can it be moved manually if you wish to? Like the power trunk on my XJ can be pushed down by hand or you push the button; either way is fine.
Yep. Imagine hobbling around in the rain while the seats slowly slide forwards to give you access.
I ❤ it . I am single and would definitely buy one. Legendary Landover defender off capabilities are unmatched. Retro design,tech,V8 supercharged power
Land Rover is
trying to tell you we have a G class as well. AND THEY DO!
3:51 nice smooth ui action on a £100k car
Go check out videos of the new S-Class’s screen operation. It’s just the way she goes these days.
Love it!
I want a Skoda Yeti with a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine xD
I’d opt for the straight 6 hybrid which is almost as quick to 60 and may have better f/r balance. Costs a bit less as well.
How's it now?
This makes sense for a wealthy young bachelor that wants to show off.
I prefer the Cupra Formentor just as quick 420 litre boot and 40 grand for the VZ2 310 ps much cheaper you won't spend most of your time in the petrol station, my choice all day everyday.
I’d take thIs SUV over any other, this one is truly special
How does it compare to the SVR?
Such a shame they only gave it three dull colors and zero interior choices. The regular lineup has magnificent color options, flashy, yet classy. This flashiness would really fit the V8.
Otherwise, awesome vehicle.
There is still option to put the wrap on it...those who have money for car, will also a grand or two for wrap.
@@martinv.178 do wraps look as good as paint? Do they damage original paint?
@@alexclipper7608 If you choose right company and right color, nobody will see the difference and if it will be correctly applied, it will not damage the paint at all, it will actually protect it
You don’t buy a V8 90 for practicality, you buy it because it’s really cool and explains why URBAN cannot get enough of them…
Im not paying over $100K to fold the seat back. And you can't put the window down 🤦. No body stability, so if I turn the corner and strong wind blows what happens 🤦. Thank you for this review.
There are always sukkurs for 3 door actual suv's like these
Unbelievable fast. It's depreciation will be unbelievable fast.
I’m not a camera guy but the camera showing the interior views is crazy.
So a stock Defender has more power than the 2022 range rover V8 🤔
Rory, you have the coolest, most refreshing insight in car reviews. Love your personality too, my fav here in You tube. Thank you.
It's definitely not a family car. There's alot of alternatives for that money. JLR have overpriced things in the last few years.
Nicely shot video m8!!
Loved that little side punch to the gear stick!
Quite agree Rory, had one for 2 weeks, totally impractical, you forgot to mention the 9cm lip behind the rear seats that don't actually fold flat. Add the 5ltr to a 110 then that's another ballgame!
Back seat can be removed to make it flat
Great review! Love the context!
come to think of it 3 door design is ideal for people without families, really like the 3 door design, just wish it wasn't exclusive to the v8
It’s available as a diesel
Best review ever mate. 👌
1:17 got me dying on the floor🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great review. It's quite Mad....but all Great.
Rory, you treasure. Never fail to disappoint
My old defender 90 is definitely more practical than this. Bench seat in the back is easy to get into using the back door and it still leaves a massive amount of space for luggage.
Most people go to the car wash weekly. Land Rover owners go to the dealership weekly but don’t worry they’re rich enough to afford it
The Huge difference in price is that everything is included in the car. Every single option. If you do that on the entry level, the difference isn’t that huge. The 3 doors looks awesome. But, for me please the 5doors….
Great review as always Rory!
If the 90’s too small and you need 5 doors just buy a 110 it’s not difficult.. have you seen the price of a Mercedes-Benz G Wagon???
Here in the US the v8 Defender is over $30k more than the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. The Jeep is quicker and comes standard with mechanical diff lockers.
good review. thank you autotrader
5:09 why did these close up shots suddenly jump up fps? I don't like how "smooth" those shots look, I prefer the 30 fps or whatever most of the video is in
Edit: Flappy paddles are essential! I have them in my '18 hyundai elantra sport and I use manual mode most of the time, even in city traffic lol
Also a 90defender Lumma CLR looks amazing
