  • Believe it or not, this scene in David Lynch's Dune was completely made without using any CGI and was actually hand-drawn.
Something that is very impressive considering there were no computers back in the day. Still, I can't help but to see Roblox characters in this scene.

@@Riza.ra. I'm not very familiar with the details but I assume the technique they had to use would have been the same as it was with making cartoons back in the day. Since they couldn't use CGI for the movie, everything was done with models, miniatures, and hand drawn/shaded effects.

@@casedistorted There are a lot of authors who trash adaptations of their work. So I think it's highly unlikely Herbert would like the film simply because it was the first time he got to see his series made into a movie. You don't spend that much of your life working on something without becoming protective about it. So while you might would just like it because it was the first time you got to see your book made into a movie, authors who really care about their work don't work like that.

You think this is weird? Try looking up the adaptation Alejandro Jodorowsky wanted to make in the 70s, but never got a chance to film. I’ve seen concepts of what the intro alone would have been like - a massive zoom-in effect on the whole universe that even CGI today would probably have had trouble putting off. They even wanted Salvador Dali, the famous surrealist painter, playing the Emperor, and Orson Welles as Baron Harkonnen. If they had ever made that movie, trust me, this probably would’ve looked tame by comparison

Well David Lynch directed this version, the same guy who directed Twin Peaks. That show got really weird starting in season 2.

I sort of like that that did Paul's inner monologue or at least some of it he has in the book, but I think Timothee did well showing it in his expression and Josh Brolin in his intensity. Think I like what they did in the newer movie better just for flow sake.

I recently watched it too and it’s super straight forward. I loved it and the way the story was set up. Barron in this version was a mad clown and Paul was even more badass. If you’re a movie buff I 100% recommend.

CGI existed back then. But it was expensive and clunky. The first movie to use CGI was The Last Starfighter. Which also came out in 1984.
