THank you for taking us through the process!!! It looks great!!
Awesome work Chad! 👌 Always enjoy watching the process! Thanks for sharing!
Heath Knuckles thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
Great job, really looks like a learning curve with that software and machine. Thanks Chad have a great day!
Thanks! Just going back through and seeing what comments I've missed. Apparently quite a few...
Great insight into the process.
snocrushr thanks!
great stuff and help, just ordered the LS3655 today. can't wait
+Ryan Meador I hope you have a place to put that and have a fork lift. That's huge!
Ashley at Boss warned me about that, ha. Looking into a forklift for delivery day. Can't wait
Awesome video as usual!
Brian Cannon thanks!
WOW !!!!!!! Chad your family looks great and it's wonderfurrr to see your children involved, you seem to be multi talented. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words.
Sweet tumbler!
Michael Lawing thanks!
Hey Chad, thanks for the video. I bought my Boss 1630, Jan 2016 and started powder coating in July 2017. I've been wanting to do this but was concerned about the laser reflecting off the cup and back into the laser. I talked with Boss they told me to start out at a speed of 400 and 10 power setting. But after watching you I think I will be ok. Thanks for posting this and giving the settings that really helps.
Mark Sebastian what Watt laser did you get?
100Watt
Ok, that's exactly what we have we do 300 speed, 35 power and .085 scan gap. No issues with reflecting. Any residue can be removed with a clorox wipe and magic eraser.
How much residue do you typically get? I make dice boxes with this method and I seem to either leave a very thin layer of powder coat residue or get it too hot. Would be awesome to see what "typical" residue looks like for you.
Awww Man Thats awesome! Got a amazon link to where I can find one of those lol! Serious note very cool, some sketch calls on the game and the ending was cool with the craft fair thing!
Fentertainment couldn't find one. Maybe Boss can send me one.
BRILLIANT!!!! well explained, great process........AWESOME BEARD ;)
Last video with the shaggy look. Back to a more trimmed look. Thanks.
Excellent job creating channel Good Luck w Matt Ryan great qb
Thanks for watching and taking a minute to comment. Are you doing any powdercoating or customizing?
Hey Chad, great video tutorial, its awesome to see people helping out. A little fyi I stumbled across if you want to get rid of that edginess in your design. Enlarge your design much bigger before you export from your design software and resize it in RD and it will be clean, the bigger you export as the cleaner it will be. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind if I have that issue in the future.
Wow, that's crisp! Nice work, Chad :D
I wonder if there's a quality setting in your program for the preview image to remove the jaggies? It's probably set low so it renders quicker.
Azayles good thinking. I'm not sure, but when I get home I'll check that out and let you know.
ManCraftingTM Awesome :D I'm interested if it's a thing :D
I like what you do.
Thanks!
Awesome job ! Do you clean the mugs' engraving? If you do, what do you use? It looks so sharp! Thanks for sharing.
Cleaning supplies for laser etching powder coated or duracoated tumblers.

amzn.to/2uEWq7l
love your vidoes, quick/to the point/informational! would the engraving settings be similar when using cermark spray? Also, I used vinyl with sandblasting cabinet with for tumblers and the biggest obstacle was making sure the logo was not only straight but didn't curve up or down. does your RD Works program automatically adjust for that?
Terri daigle I actually square up the rotary roller using a square. Once it’s square to the gantry the logo goes on straight.
awesome!! thanks so much.
enjoyed, one of these days
Gib Clark thanks for watching Gib!
Do you have to use any solvent to remove any powder or is that the final product? At your speed and power setting (hard to tell from video) does it leave the steel with a golden tint? or is it silver? Thank you.
I clean any residue with amzn.to/2C060Uf and this amzn.to/2Crintz The final color is exactly the color of the steel. I sometimes need to remove residue sometimes I don't. Depends on the thickness and color or type of powder.
Nice job. One question. In the Rotary Section, you have the diameter set at about 35mm, I believe. Wouldn't that normally be set at the diameter of the cup?
Not sure, but I think it corrects for the curvature prospective. Thanks, Jim
James Wittenbrock there really isn't a diameter setting. There is a setting that says where you are starting out of 360. I usually start at 180ish. The 35 setting is power. 300 is speed. .085 is the scan gap.
ManCraftingTM Thanks for the quick response. I was referring to the "Rotary" setting box, under the "User" tab. Also under the "Output " tab.
When you checked the rotary box, I noticed your using 6000 circle pulse and 35mm diameter. My understanding is the diameter of the cup, should be input where you have the 35mm.
I'm new at this, and just trying to confirm my understanding. I appreciate your channel.
Nice step by step play through.
I've always wanted a laser cutter/engraver but it just seemed too intimidating for me. After watching this it definitely motivated me to want one of my own someday.
Your laser seems way out of my budget and more for serious business. Is there one available just for the hobbyist?
mhernandezae86 check their site. Their is a huge range and depending on the usage you may be able to buy one for half what we spent.
Cool.
hey, awesome video, I'm trying to branch into more projects other than wood, what powder coater are you using? Is there a small laser cutter for beginners you'd recommend? Subscribed!
Zach Budano powdercoating has a pretty low barrier to entry. $300-$400 and you can have some fun. Lasers start around $3,000 for a Chinese. I primarily use the Eastwood Dual Phase.
ManCraftingTM Awesome! thanks!
+Zach Budano I also have a video on a great 110 oven option. Check it out.
great stuff mate, stupid question. is it safe to power coat right to the top considering your mouth will be going over it?
Paul Rosasqui considering I have 1,000 times more exposure during application I sure hope so.
Hello great video...we’re starting a new start-up company and need to etch logos on powder coated aluminum but looking to spend $500 or less for a laser to start..any suggestions?
This is a popular Chinese laser that several of my friends bought for similar reasons. amzn.to/3fpk6Cn
Does the place of the design on the screen have a correlation to the place where the rotary sits in the machine? Sometimes I get a Y slop error.
Tina Barchfeld it shouldn’t. Usually I set my rotary so Y is at 180 and then place the cup on the rotary.
Do you have any suggestions if your designs burn sometime at the points where the rotator spins?
If you have a photo of what you having happen, email it to me. ManCrafting101@gmail.com
hey I'm getting into this and I'd like to ask you a few questions. I just want to do this as a part time job. I just had surgery and because of the restrictions and everything my job deals with I can't go back to work for 30 days. but I can't sit home that long and not do something. and this could turn into a very good way to bring in some extra money and gifts for the family while I'm down. and even when I go back to work I can do it on my days off so any help would be awesome.
Send me an email at mancrafting101@gmail.com and I'll try to answer any questions you have.
I've learned a lot from your channel. I believe your using a Boss laser but I can't afford that right now. Any suggestions for a less expensive one? Thanks again!
Send me an email. I have a few thoughts. ManCrafting101@gmail.com
can you use a lower watt laser to etch off the powder coat?
Absolutely. I’ve done it with a 10w diode as well as friends with 40 watt CO2 lasers.
Quick question - what kind of run time did you see on a cup? Love the channel/vids!
Theo Aftonomos thanks. By run time, do you mean from beginning to end or just the laser time?
@@ManCrafting Laser time :)
Theo Aftonomos most images very from 4-6 minutes. So that tumbler as probably 15 min with the 3 images.
@@ManCrafting Thanks for the response!
We just started laser etching our powder off. It is now our go to for anything other than names. Its impossible to match the tiny details you can keep with the laser with vinyl!
(Unvevo) I did one for my next door neighbor that's for ridiculous detail and it turned out amazing. Even my logo couldn't be done prior the laser.
ManCraftingTM yep, before we only put a cursive AFab on the bottom of every cup we did. We ended up switching to a bold ugly font just to speed up the process. I purchased a small 15 watt diode laser and now we can put my full business name, location, and website on the bottom of every cup. With room left over to add a personalized message for extra cost.
Have you coated in two colors and etched top color off yet?
Brian Cannon it's a challenge. You never now how a specific powder will come off and thickness varies. If I was doing the same tumbler 500 times I could probably invest the time to dial it in. But for one cup it's not worth the hassle.
ManCraftingTM that makes sense. Working with such thin tolerances is probably difficult
Ya they went to the SuperBowl! Hahahahaha
TheSlugSea I hope you’re having a great day. Enjoy the NFL this year.
ManCraftingTM
Hey you as well sir! Hope we get a season! Good work, thanks for the info
Take Care
My first Mancrafting video! Nice tumbler. Sorry about your team.
Thanks for stopping by. Look forward to seeing you and Marc in April here or May in San Francisco.
I never thought about powder coating anything. Now that I'm lasering them I might try it for giggles. I wouldn't even think about doing it for a commercial job per se'.
You’ll enjoy it.
Can you tell me what laser machine you use? I am looking to invest for my business. Thanks!
Johnnie Werner Boss 1630 with 100w tube.
I seriously need a laser, I'm getting tired of trying to etch the blue and black Members Mark tumblers with my sandblasting cabinet. Can you guess which color is the most requested. Yep, blue, and usually the design(s) that they want have thin lines.
Moving the unit wouldn't be the problem (Tractor FTW) unfortunately space would be.
ginger20037 this setup works amazing on the MM cups. Love when someone pics that tumbler.
ManCraftingTM I saw the red one you put the horse on in your other video and it looked awesome!
just a quick answer total cost of the laser set up
James Garrison you can actually do a laser build on the site at BossLaser dot com. Ours with the size we wanted and the 100W tube and rotary, computer etc was a litter over $12K which is a lot of machine for the $$$. Comparable setup in Epilogue or Trotec is 2x to 3x more.
very cool...so worth the investment
scaling up my operation Thanks from Skull Exposure
James Garrison thanks James.
How much does the licensing cost to use that logo
john brountas if I was selling it I’d surely take the time to find out. It’s just my personal fan art.
Its obviously for personal use. no licensing required.
#RiseUp
Man i so want that laser. Nothing says play toy like a laser
Definitely my biggest toy. Unlike my Jeep this toy actually pays its way. 🤣
I did it too. This is what I used Woodglut designs for
