One misconception about Steve Vai is that he is from earth.
Yeah he's no earthling.
Yup. It's claimed he's American, but Americans just claim him coz he's incredible - he's obviously from well beyond the Kuiper belt.
That's not a misconception. Nobody who has seen him play believes he is from here. Lol.
It's the 10 inch long fingers that give him away. 🤘🎶
Steve is the guitar…. Never ceases to amaze me. He and the guitar are one. Witnessed it 7 times live and I am in tears every time live
Vai used to transcribe music for Zappa back when he was only 19 or so. Of all the “shred” guitarists, he is probably the most compositionally adept. The dude literally started inventing microtonal guitars and the whole seven-string thing to create sounds he heard in his head and his playing is simply ungodly, even if it’s an acquired taste. He simply is the GOAT.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing that!
Why I love Vai. From blazing licks to baleful wailing and everything in between, he _sings_ the guitar to you like no one else.
Steve Vai and his mentor and teacher Joe Satriani are national treasures. Their virtuosity and creativity are humbling and beautiful.
And they’re on tour together next year!
@@michaelrains64295 Steve's just been here in New Zealand and I didn't even know, absolutely gutted!
theyre not national treasures
they are treasure of the history of music and humankind
the days they leave this earth we will have lost two of the greatest minds of our times
Steves playing was unbelievable back when I believed he was human. Once I realized he was a space alien robot specifically designed to play guitar, it all made more sense.
I mean, who has fingers that long and dexterous? And that much talent to make the guitar sing?
Also, Bad Horsie may be my favorite riff ever.
Have you seen him play Bad Horsie in his home studio, called the Harmony Hut? Incredible!! its on yt...
As well as playing the guitar, Steve Vai transcribed Frank Zappas music for Orchestra! He was trained at Berklee college of music, so he has classical training too!
My intro was Frank Zappa when he did “strat abuse” but the guitar battle in Crossroads was when he really first blew my mind.
His sight reading skills is insane
The coolest thing I ever saw Vai do was to ride the feedback between speakers. He held one note on the guitar, but then played note, note, note, by shifting his guitar between a pair of amps.
Any live version of Steve doesn't disappoint, my particular favorite would be, 'Whispering A Prayer' so, so beautiful.
THIS!!!
100%
Steve Vai is an absolute freak. The man knows how to make a guitar sing. I'd definitely consider Vai a modern Beethoven.
I'd actually say someone like Liszt would be a better comparison - a fine composer but also a total virtuoso on his instrument in a way that Beethoven was never focused on; Liszt was basically a rock star when he would tour Europe in the mid-19th century. Likewise Paganini, although he was nowhere near as accomplished an all-round composer as Liszt; Vai actually bears quite a striking physical resemblance to portraits of Paganini from the time...
Whispering A Prayer is simply sublime, the man can raise a note from the dead and keep it forever.
Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe is a genius on the guitar and musical composition.
Almost “Black Napkins” by Zappa.
His signature line of guitars are all so beautiful. I would love to have one. I'm all about bling that would make Elvis blush.
I saw him live performing this song almost frontrow. At 10.34 the red pullover on the left is me. It was majestic, the whole show was a once in a lifetime moment. Great orchestra to.
It’s not a song though.
Please watch Tender Surender by Vai he is a very textured artist . He has just amazing layers to his music. He is not just a shred guy .
The Passion and Warfare album is one of his best . What also makes him stand out is he is a humble nice guy who works with people not as well known to
Shine a light on other players .
Tender Surrender is a great guitar song. A must hear
Steve Vai is the goat.
Great review, and majestic is the perfect word for this song and performance.
Try listening to “passion and warfare “ … epic album
the music video for this song is what really got to me and it's message
If you liked Steve Vai for his theatricality when playing, try 'Halo Theme: MJOLNIR Mix' - which has Vai doing lead... and the composer, Marty McDonnell, really gets him going in a jam
You're probably the first reaction you tuber that has some of their own music to go listen to that i've seen so it's pretty interesting to see how you react to this style.
Oh, man...the Attitude Song from this show is a terrific watch too! It's almost amusing to see the musicians trying to keep up with the pace!
the difference between begining of the video and the end xD
Legend, I'm going to his concert in a few weeks!
The greatest guitar instrument from the 80s guitarist. Best instrumental though for me is still Camel and Andy Latimer with Ice.
Thank you!
imo Steve Vai is the most technically gifted guitarist ever. He puts emotion into his playing, alongside his incredible skill. Of course there are others I'd give the GOAT status to as well....for different reasons. IE: Roy Clark....probably the overall best person on any string instrument, and best strummer period.
2:15 Do you think this is the first time a clarinet play received whoops and applause for establishing the motif? It sounds achingly beautiful.
I haven’t seen much that Vai has done, but there are two guitarists that he reminds me of. First is Frank Zappa. Not surprising, as Vai played with Zappa. The other is Jeff Beck.
I think Vai was heavily influenced here, by a Todd Rundgren track: 'Another Life' on the Utopia album, 'Another Live'. Todd's style is underrated.IMHO!
"Bad Horsie" 😃
Buckethead! Amazing and interesting! Check him out. Totally worth it!
So much Frank in there.
Please watch the scene from the movie Crossroads starring Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai. Actually, watch the whole damn movie. You’ll enjoy it.
While I've always thought Vai was an amazing player I've just never been drawn to his playing or writing style. I did see him live though and it was amazing.
I agree 100%..great technician but don't like his style at all
@@clinttorres2508 It's melodically sterile...
@@DMDvideo10 yes..too much off the wall bends n whammy bar stuff. I agree
So many good youtube performances by Steve Vai. You must check out the amazing Matteo Mancuso. Steve Vai described him as 'the evolution of guitar'.
It's a great track, but I'd still pick Blue Powder and The Attitude Song as my favourites. There's so much humour in the earlier work.
Hi ! Tina S covered that piece of music. 🤘I recommend Steve Vai - "Tender Surrender". He also has his own YT channel.
If Paganini walked among us today.
Great react! 3:00 - It gives me vibes from the opening song from Kung Fu (TV Series 1972-1975)... Sweet. Want to hear him talking (literally) with his ax? Try David Lee Roth - Yankee Rose. Shout out from Tenerife (Canary Islands)
Yep! Kung Fu theme! He must have liked that show!
Steve is wild, good stuff. Excuse me Jone, are you familiar with Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucía live in Modena? If not you owe it to yourself brother.
You must Reacts to "Samba Pro Rapha" by Yamandu Costa
There was a lot of Frank in that.
Kind of what I was thinking.
Quit trying to be Frank, and be Steve.
The results would be much better...
I'm pretty sure that Steve missed a note there somewhere around 4:30..
Try the guitarist that Vai himself named the closest to anyone ever, to be the greatest guitarist ever, Danny Gatton.
Gatton is indeed an awesome guitarist.
Closest thing to Jeff Beck we will ever see, imho.
This song is a Zappa tribute, right?
The video of him doing this song at G3 is better
Here's a Playlist by the Other Guitar GOD, JOE SATRIANI, that TAUGHT Steve how to Play!!! Steve was a schoolmate of Joe and at around age 15-16, Steve went to Joe with a Guitar and a pack of strings and said, "Teach Me!". Obviously, he Taught him WELLL!
NOW, YOU can be one of Only a FEW Reactors to do JOE SATRIANI!!!
Here's a Playlist that is based on the Order that they were released, and EVERY Song is a BANGER!!!>>>
ruclips.net/p/PLsFo7CmYmoftV3POUpRb5icHFHMcGKT-q
Try Joe Satriani
Lol, your channel has guitar in the title, ?
I saw him when he toured with David Lee Roth. At the time, I didn’t know who he was. My friends hated me after the show, because I told them all he was better than Eddy! I still think so!!
Was that the tour about 30 years ago with DLR, Cinderella and Extreme?
Jone, this is good but I feel the guitar is slightly lost in places due to the orchestration. You really need to checkout the first time Steve played this piece 'For the love of God' to an audience at Expo Sevilla 92. You could cut the atmosphere with a knife and Steve goes beyond even his usual emotional playing. Here's the link my friend, have fun.
ruclips.net/video/tPc0uLG2y5g/видео.html
I always say this isn't the best version of this song for a first listener because of the orchestra. Not because it's bad, but a lot of Steve's playing is replaced by the orchestra in places. I would say the G3 performance is also a good version to watch.
@@fubar1217 Thanks. I just love to hear a good orchestra but some sections of this performance do not compliment the piece for some reason.
Look up his triple guitar neck solo he does. pretty easy to find if you just put that in. unbelievable! Edit: It's called "I know you're here"
I once saw Steve Vai get outplayed by a young classically trained guitar player. Things sure have changed.
Vai is simply guitar for guitar’s sake. Hard to get if you aren’t really into guitar.
The best rendition of this piece was done by a 16 year old girl name Tina S. As this is Vais' composition, I'm not going to be so presumptuous as to find fault. At this point it is just a matter of personal preference, and I love Tinas' smoothness and emotion as opposed to this performance that, for me, seems a little harsh. The girl is something very special!
growing up, trying to play guitar ... Vai was so frustrating to watch. The lil "tricks" you see just threw me for a loop as I thought that must have some relevance to how he made those sounds. Of course, in reality, most of the time they had nothing to do with it, just being showmanship and looking cool - thanks Steve Vai
"What is going on here?
I suppose he’s impressive but gotta be honest - this music leaves me cold.
JUST SAY IT!!
He is blowing the guitar 😂, not our problem people only think nasty things 😂
I am a long time Vai fan and I just hate this version. I know Vai really wanted to have an orchestra play his music but it does not work for this song. It works best as the simple rock band version which lets the emotion shine. While I have played in orchestras and rock/metal bands, orchestras have too sloppy a feel for rock. They always feel like they are dragging and sound slightly out of tune and lack the intensity needed for rock and metal.
Hate these versions with the orchestra, it's a much better song with his normal band.
Steve smug Vai
Sorry but SV's guitar is too overpowering. I would like to hear a more soulful ES 335 sounding guitar.
Never liked Vai's melodic sensibility, I don't find the melodies he improvizes particularly enjoyable. This is pretty decent though
well this is probably the best melody in the history of music
I find this quite painful to listen to… the bends aren’t in tune, the whole thing sounds out of tune. I do love Vai btw and Zappa but yeah, guitarists and orchestra usually makes for a cringe fest.
No offense but his playing doesn’t do it for me
It's a sin to play this kind of crap with his abilities... It sounds like some kind of warm up before a show, but not a composition...
Not his best work.
