HEY ALL! Just a heads up, Any spoilers in the comments I'm gonna delete for the next little while. No hard feelings, just protecting those who haven't seen the season yet!
It was all over the internet back in March.
Thank you!
Barnaby is my favorite character in this scene!!! He’s SO funny!
He's the best 😊
I absolutely love Shula and Barnaby! I hope they get married, as they make an adorable couple! God bless! 🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My husband and I are Jewish believers. Our parents would not go into a church, and were offended at our considering a church wedding.and the short story is we had to have 2 wedding ceremonies. 0ne before a judge and the other as part of a church evening with friends. Our belief in Jesus and its persecution was similar to what Thomas and Ramah faced. Unusual procedures
And my parents would not accept a Messianic congregation either!
😅
I married a Jewish man. Out of respect for his family, faith and culture, I found a Messianic congregation for us to attend. I told him I could not answer his questions, he had to get answers from a Rabbi. These were the terms and conditions if he was serious about dating.
Long story short, the running joke was that I, a Gentile became more orthodox than he, a Jewish man. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor.
@@AlpacaMade 😄 wow… great testimony. I always thought God has a very good sense of humor.
@@lkooper that’s strange… knowing that our faith comes from Jewish faith…
From the beginning, Rama’s roll is not probable. No Jewish father would allow his young daughter to travel like she does. Even my own father in the 60s and 70s did not let me date in high school or go to over night group camps
I love that you also listen to the details of the music. Music is the nonverbal communication that gives a lot of information. Love your show!
You are aware The Chosen has advisors, protestant, catholic and Jewish Rabbis that give historical and cultural truths so reality in presented other than filling in story lines, the culture is adhered to. 😊
I really appreciate your teaching. Don't you find it interesting how God LETS us make decisions, even not the best ones! But had they ASKED Him what they should do,He may have counselled them differently....but they didn't ask. Looking back in my life,I can see that. I should have asked Him a LOT more and not assumed I was doing the right thing... 😢
Wow ---- very insightful comment. I had to make ALOT of mistakes, before realizing that asking God's wisdom & discernment should come BEFORE making any decisions or actions.
I did the same thing when i unblocked this toxic guy. I did not ask Jesus' opinion about it. 😢
Thomas actually did approach Jesis about it earlier on in the show
Thank you for this analysis and explanation! When I saw this scene, I won’t lie, I was a tad disappointed because I felt like Thomas and Ramah were reduced down to two people who were in love and wanted to get married. I didn’t think there was much of a conflict, if at all here.
Now understanding the significance of what Ramah is doing has me much more invested in how all of this will play out!
Just another example of the depth and layers that The Chosen puts into each of these characters and scenes to really make them matter! Thank you for this video!
you added an elequence to my feelings, 100% thanks brother!
Now I understand in the trailer why Jesus has that surprised and scared reaction. He specifically sent Thomas to try and get Kafni to change his mind about Jesus. I believe Thomas even told Ramah that Jesus wanted him to persuade Kafni towards Jesus. Thomas had a job to do and Jesus now knows the answer. He now knows the severity of Kafni’s feelings towards him.
Thank you for this explanation it was very much needed!
Jesus knew things weren’t going to work out for them. Jesus didn’t act surprised when He saw what had happened to Ramah.
I'll admit I haven't analyzed the music this much but I love what you're pointing out!
Brandon, you’ve explained it perfectly. I am not Jewish, but I come from a society and culture very much close to the middle eastern culture, so I know it’s true. And yes, what Rama and Thomas are about to do is a HUGE MASSIVE disrespect as it is seen from the family’s perspective.
Brandon, i just love how you interpret and break down scenes with such passion, in addition to giving us a lesson on certain Jewish tradition (such as the word Kiddushin (for betrothal). It makes me go back to the scene, and i see it with more knowledge and insight than i did before. Thank you Brandon.
No worries!
Knowing what I know since I’ve watched Season 4 in the theater your explanation helps to explain the “why” of what happened. Thanks!
Loving your detailed analyses, Brandon. Thank you!
Same ❤
I like your insight into the music, since it's not something I tend to catch. Thanks for letting us know what the specific words meant and explaining, also.
Great info on the tradition Brandon. The writing again! This makes more sense now about Jesus hesitation when they asked him to be their sponsor.
You mentioned that the scene is a massive punch in the face to Rama’s father and village. Kind of like how her outcome is a massive punch in the face to the audience.
We’ll talk about it in just a few days 😉
❤Thank you so much, *spoiler* I know what it to come, and you've preempted the "why Ramah?" a little later on. Also, as ever, thank you all for helping me find Christ (he was here all along!!!)❤
Isn't it wonderful ??!!!♥
I love this show it’s never going to end after he redirection- they can continue with books of the Bible- the apostles over time - apostles in time periods - saints -
I love their production
Hmm 🤔 when I first saw this in theatre my first thought and feeling was that this seemed sneaky and deceptive of them. Then the look on Jesus's face sort of confirmed that to me. Your breakdown is insightful and educational for me so thank you for that. Shalom.
I don’t think they’re purposely being deceptive. I think they’re young and in love and want to be together. I haven’t seen ep2 yet so idk how it ends up but I find it funny your first reaction was them being deceitful
Even though they chose to get married in that way, wasn't it said later in a different episode that they left to follow Jesus as well as wanting to get married?
One may leave behind an unbelieving family to follow Jesus. Maybe this is what Ramah was doing?
If this issue isn't addressed in this episode, it's explained in the next one.
So, ramah's intent was handled wrong in this episode, the explanation comes later on.
the holding hands was pointed out by Barnaby Shula that it's a no no then both Thomas Ramah remembers that it was a no no
Could it be that Raman’s family along with her village have already rejected her? She does seem to have something she hasn’t shared so far.
Chances is that she was already rejected for going back to Jesus after he rejected Thomas for her..
@ princesadearuba Except the fact that her father blamed Jesus and was so angry that he almost certainly will be in the crowd at Pilate’s trial shouting, “Crucify him!” doesn’t sound like they have totally rejected her.
Get real! If Rama's Father said no then no other man in her family or village would go against her father. Yes if Dad said no they literally could only goto someone who really understand what it means to follow Jesus. In the Bible in "The Chosen" Jesus and His disciples always had to go against "tradition" . Sooo...."Get Used to Different". Otherwise they would have to accept they could NEVER be married. I really believe that Jesus would not make them live forever apart.
Thomas's line, "It's alright. We're getting married," struck me wrong. So many of us justified our sin before marriage with that line. It caused me to question Remah's complicated plan. She was using The Law to justify he lawlessness.
Thanks for pointing this out, I very much felt and thought what you were saying while watching it and wasn’t sure if I was supposed to feel that way.
Thank you so much for these break downs, Brandon! 💖
Thank you so much for all of your breakdowns of the scenes!
Excellent insights! I had an uneasy feeling about this development as well but this really explains the background perfectly.
This really put it into perspective... Thank you!
I noticed the change in the expression of Jonathan (as Jesus) when Yasmine (Ramah) presents this outlandish idea.
There is deception, but it is the same type of deception many use even today to be physically with the one they want.
…feeling convicted by the second half of this. Thank you
What deception? Who is being deceived?
Exactly. I agree! I was guilty of that deception several years ago. I’ve learn my lesson. Not my will but yours be done, Lord.
@ laurenchristy5866 I would say “manipulation” more than “lying”, although the situation in question is specifically about absentee fathers or family members when her family are not absentees, so in a way she’s insulting her family by calling them absentees (which isn’t the case).
Thank you for picking up on the music change. I remember watching in theaters and feeling uneasy. Looking back I think that was not only because I had a slight understanding of the cultural implications but that music having an unconscious affect.
Jesus came to save us and that breaks down to many things in our day to day lives, including being set free from religious legalism. Dallas knows this and has surrounded the Gospel depiction with these little things that are consistent with that truth.
Thank you for bringing insight to this!
Very helpful info. of cultural aspects during these times. I wondered about the hands holding too. Thank you.
Great insight, Brandon!!!
Thank you for this enlightening video. I wondered about this myself, given the customs of those times.
Barnaby and Shula's relationship seems controversial too. I don't think close M-F "just friends" was acceptable either.
They were both crippled (until Jesus healed them), unfit for marriage, middle age lower class people, maybe they were such outcasts anyway, that people just did not care about their relationship. Edit: as fictional characters in the show, this would be a plausible backstory for the friendship, and I believe that real people in similar circumstances would just stick together no matter what.
@@katarzynaludwikakowalczyk-8232 yeah I was thinking the same. Usually lower in class have more leeway. Also they were the ones Mary was hanging out with and the pharisees were saying Jesus was with basically lowlifes. So their friendship was probably frowned upon but overall most probably didn't care.
That's a great insight. I look forward to an insight from the writers and the rabbi. from the round table.
Thank you for the information ♥️🙏
Thank you! I look at this scene totally different now. Wow! I never noticed the music until you mentioned it.
Explains Kafni’s extraordinary anger at what has transpired and his campaign against Jesus.
gonna play devil's advocate. Quntis didnt mean to kill Ramah. He was aiming for Thomas probably (Jesus is out of the way at this point) he's frustrated trying to keep the peace, Quintis tries to keep the peace but gets his hands full. Rome says that you don't have the right to take life without reason. so Quntis will probably face discipline
Thank you again, Brandon! Great info! 😂
Thanks Brandon
I think Kafni would've been far more likely to say yes to Thomas if he hadn't followed Jesus. When he had a good obvious consistent job and work ethic, this Kafni respected and understood. It would've balanced out other doubts at least.
I also notice her brothers aren't mentioned or are totally forgotten. She did say she had them a couple seasons ago.
I have always thought that I had some understanding and knowledge regarding the Jewish religion, but, apparently, there is a lot that I don’t know. This was very interesting and informative. Thank you, Brandon 👍 Please do a lot more of these.
Of course, this story line is setting up what is to come.
I agree with you, brother, and I did catch what she was doing when I watched it the first time. However, I will point out that this is part of what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 10:32-39.
They gave up everything to follow Jesus. They chose Jesus over family.
I saw a video on RUclips yesterday where someone was in Tel Dor . It was a lot of ruins, and it had waves coming in on some of the ruins. It looks like it was a good size place.
Episode 3 has some musical and physical effects that made me uneasy too. I didn’t pick it up in episode 2. Good job!
Great video!
The tradition of the culture was accepted. This really should not be unusual because these two had worked together and traveled for years, but it still was non-traditional. Had they not followed Jesus, most likely Kafni would have approved.
Good thing Ramah learned how to read. 😊
Im surprised that The Chosen's experts - Rabbi Jason Sobel? - allowed for Ramah's "extenuating circumstance" since that wouldn't be kosher.
I didn't know Ramah was doing that, let alone to her whole village. Wow! Very deceitful. 😮😮
interesting insight
If this is true, then Ramah would have made Jesus complicit in her sin--and Jesus is without sin or else He cannot be our Savior. This is a HUGE problem for Christianity and the Ministry of Jesus, not just a disrespect to a father or a village.
In a small way, this helps me to understand Ramah's death. It's like instant "karma" even though Christians do not believe in karma, but I cannot find the words in my 70-year-old brain at the moment. (Have mercy on me, please.)
I guess I would say that it’s karma in a way: your actions have consequences. I think the underlying principle of karma is what Divine Justice is supposed to be. God knows everything and sees everything so He would know that Ramah is being deceitful and dragging Thomas down with her similar to Eve convincing Adam to eat the forbidden fruit. While I can empathize and sympathize with Ramah and Thomas, it just wasn’t meant to be.
@kyrilascully7828 Yea this feels like using Jesus for your own plans on her part.
Idk if I would say “using the Lord‘s name in vain”, but it does feel like it’s along that line of thought.
I was wondering how Ramah did all of that research when she was new to reading and probably wasn’t allowed to study in the synagogue?
Possibly asking questions and or advices… 😂
My thoughts exactly. A year ago she was illiterate, and now is studying Rabbinic law; whether oral or written.
I agree this would be extremely rebellious and insulting in their culture at the time period this is portrayed. I was shocked to see the disciples and others accepting of this idea without hesitation. This seems more like a modern day scenario.
Perhaps she did plea to her village before she returned and her father had so much influence as successful businessman that no one would help her. It’s also a huge comparison to leave your father and your mother to join together. I’m not saying she’s innocent but since we’re filling in gaps and I love Ramah…lol
This seems likely, that everybody (relatives and the whole village), influenced by Kafni, refused to help her.
At Last some wuan
Sorry inglish not my first langues
This is definitely possible, though the actions she’s taking still say the same things. A tiny spoiler but in episode two she says “ you’re the closest thing I have to a father now” meaning she doesn’t see Kafni as her dad anymore.
This scene made me very uneasy. Watching Ramah seemingly flaunt traditions and customs along with her taking the dominant role in this situation. Disrespectful. I certainly know in my own life that any situation that I have attempted to force has always ended in bringing condemnation from the enemy and a heavy spirit. I really appreciate you pointing out the musical effects that enhance the storyline. ( I also enjoyed the snippet of your singing voice)
If only Caffnee saw the service on the mount
I agree she isn’t innocent. Only time will tell.
I think Thomas' line "It feels right... But is it?" is maybe a good question to ask.
They're justifying it now, but Jesus' reaction to the plan in episode 2 kind of implies that it wasn't His will even if He allows it. He seems a bit shocked in a negative way - I'm looking forward to your deep dive there!
I was never a fan of that relationship. She was kind of weird To him. When she pretended she might not say yes was weird. She seemed like she was telling him what to do. It just always felt of that she didn't respect him. She had that attitude about her.
I didn't see season 4 in the theater so I'm just going off of what's in this episode but I really got the feeling that these two are trying to bend the rules to make it 'acceptable' to get married. I think Jesus will have an issue with that, especially since this would appear to be disrespectful to Ramah's farther - from both Ramah and Thomas.
When I 1st saw this episode I felt that she was being manipulative and controlling. She was like this previously where she tried to take Thomas’s role of getting married and the steps that needed done. When she asks Jesus to give her away, his reaction confirmed to me that something they were doing to get married was out of line.
That's what I thought. Whole thing didn't work for me. She just didn't seem in love with him.. very judgemental and controlling.
Maybe Ramah asked her neighbors and they all said no out of the wishes of her dad and they're all against Jesus 😢
So separation is happening 😢
Question, do you know why Dallas decided to not add the entire season 4 on the app? And why he chose to live stream each episode instead?
That is how he has always done it.
Pretty sure they've always done it that way
Great observations Brandon👍🇮🇱
Thank you. Dallas Jenkins has been very loose with story lines and cultural background this last season. Maybe all the personal issues took a lot of his mental energy.
It’s irrelevant if it’s disrespect or not. She chooses to lose her ties with her family and let the law of Moses decide. Which everyone has the right to do. Plus is shows the work of the Messiah perfectly. Which would result to; father against son and son against father.
@princesadearuba I would still say that it’s relevant, because the scriptures say to “honour your father and mother”. Also, if you’re being manipulative with God’s word, and dragging Jesus’ name into your foolish decisions as a way o justify it, then you’re asking for trouble.
@ princesadearuba Also, yes, father is set against child, and families are set against each other, but because of Jesus’ message itself, not because of how you execute your ideas or intentions. It is 100% possible to do the right thing the wrong way.
I think one way to look at this is the fact that the reason her father will not allow the marriage is because of Jesus. And in context of the show, Jesus tells them here that he brings division and one must choose him over family. Whether they got married or not, Remah's father would not accept her continuing to follow Jesus.
This is exactly why I have a hard time believing Kafni would allow Rhama to travel with jesus and Thomas without a male family chaperone accompanying her. Usually it would be a brother.
Mary and Tamar just wouldn't cut it. I really have to suspend my belief in reality when I watch this subplot. It's just like watching JTBs mother's performance, it pulls me out of the story.
Thomas isn’t a random dude to her or her father
Didn’t she say she had a brother? She mentioned it when she was talking to Matthew about studying Torah.
I believe so yes, though we've never met him.
@@TheChosenSleuth true
A lot went over my head with this scene. I am unfamiliar with the oral and 1st century Jewish cultural laws. I just looked at this as a romance scene. I knew that holding hands was taboo. Most Middle Eastern cultures are like this that.
I do wonder if this is as disrespectful to her family and community as much as it is a desire to follow after Jesus. Could that have been done in her community? Maybe, but we do know women followed Jesus - a single young woman would have been unusual, but Jesus and the way of Jesus is unusual. It's good to see a depiction of the variety of folks who desire to leave all and commit to learning the way of Messiah. Which is the better thing.? I am thinking either choice could be. However, I have known individuals who have literally had to separate from their families because certain attitudes and cultural practices were antithetical to the gospel. Maybe this is what this arch is communicating, especially after what we will see later in the season.
Unless I am misremembering something from episode 2 and 3 in the cinema, what you posit The Chosen is saying here causes a huge problem by enmeshing Jesus in sin, which is a biblical impossibility. But there were a few times in S4 where I felt that The Chosen got into biblical difficulties due to its insistence in including Jesus in its less compelling and sometimes annoying fictional story lines. They should have kept the fictional storylines away from too much interweaving with the Jesus narrative.
No one said this is sin, just a huge disrespect.
@@TheChosenSleuth “A huge disrespect” to a parent is what then? Last I checked there is a commandment that speaks directly to it. And sophistry - as someone else pointed out, this would not be extenuating circumstances - is something the Bible also stands against (Jesus directly states it in Mt 5:37). I’m not sure The Chosen was intending to portray what you are positing they did, but if they did, and if E2 and E3 play out the way that I recall them playing out (which I am perfectly willing to be wrong about as it has been months now since we saw them), then it causes a fiction v. Bible issue (which happened too many times in S4 for my liking and wasn’t something I felt was really an issue in previous seasons).
neither is Thomas...
I know it's just a tv show. But, her proposal didn't feel right, from the start. It felt like blatant disrespect to her father, who truly loves her. Unfortunately, it's not a cultural or age thing, either. We all get inpatient and try to fix things ourselves. Lord, help us to wait on You.🙇🏽♀️🙏🏾❤️
I have never been a fan of the Chosen. But some of my friends are so I look at videos like this once in awhile. This is so disrespectful to Thomas who is a respected disciple and goes on to be an Apostle. He would never take part in this. Why make up a ridiculous story line. Why not stick to the Bible. So many problems with this series. Mostly that Dallas has joined with Mormons to make this and they love the series so far and they don’t believe in the deity of Christ. It doesn’t show the true power of Jesus as the Son of God. Please just read or listen to the Bible and the gospels. The Word is so powerful. It was never meant to be a tv show. My image of Jesus is nothing like the Jesus in the Chosen.
He's not working with Angel Studios anymore. Jesus was completely human when he was on earth, and some people like me need visualization and this show is very close to the bible!
All your objections are answered
IMO this whole Thomas Rehma storyline going back several seasons has never lifted the show to anything more than soap opera. I get that it's a "TV Show" but the disciples were never mentioned as being married except Peter and this whole bland love story was annoying. Her death scene was so contrived, it just distracts from the message that Jesus is supposed to be giving. Then to have Jesus say he can't heal her bc it's not her time, that is just awful. In fact, the rest of season 4 is ruined by Thomas's behavior during major major scenes from the Gospel. I am honestly so disappointed that this storyline was so over done, it was cringe level for me.
