  • It's a well-known fact that children aren't always keen to eat their vegetables, so on this basis, Rachel Wicklow decided to create Secret Sausages - “vegetables in disguise” - which are made to look like normal sausages without meat or meat substitutes. Rachel’s looking for a £50,000 investment and in return, she’s offering 15%.
    An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

    Dragons🤬 you were frustrating in this. Sarah with her idealistic twaddle. There are children out there that will not eat something because it is a vegetable- no way, no how. In that instance the desperate parent couldn't care less whether the child recognises the dietary importance of the veggie as long as they somehow get it into their bodies.

    • @calsmyth4483
      @calsmyth4483 2 года назад +26

      I'm fully open to the idea that I'm being "naive" etc, but I think that a large proportion of children who refuse to eat vegetables have been brought up to be that way. Ask people from older generations if they ate their vegetables as a child and you'll generally find that they weren't given an option not to!
      Anecdotally, the kids around me who were regularly allowed junk food etc. hated vegetables. Those of us who weren't allowed it very often, and were made to eat a variety (variety being a key word there - so many people who "hate vegetables" were just served some boiled mixed veg from the freezer), learnt to enjoy (or at least tolerate!) them.
      There's been a huge parenting shift in the last few decades away from a kind of strict "do as you're told" model towards a more open and relaxed "partnership" model. I personally think that's great, but this is one area where it often fails.

    • @tattoodrdoke
      @tattoodrdoke 2 года назад +4

      Also it's about texture, look and taste. There are many ways to manipulate these 3 to get veg into kids.

    There’s a huge market for vegetarian foods here in South Africa, and not once have I been so critical in thinking that something shouldn’t be called a sausage or a burger, or schnitzel, just because it’s not meat based.

    So how many meat eaters make their own sausages from scratch, mincing the meat, adding herbs and pushing it through the skin with a machine? Noone. So why can't Vegetarians enjoy the convenience and variety of a vegan sausage, to take to a work barbecue or make toad in the hole on a weeknight? The dragons expect Vegetarians don't enjoy convenience and should "embrace the vegetables" and constantly cook from scratch. Ridiculous of them to negate the wants and existing behaviours of this huge, growing market.
    Plus, hiding vegetables is common for parents so placing their value system on what parents should do isn't a smart way to assess a market opportunity.
    Been to a health food shop lately? This market pays a massive premium for felafels, patties, vegan cheese, you name it. Sometimes twice the price. And it's now commonly in standard supermarkets. I'm in Australia.
    All this being said, Deborah didn't like the taste of product. But te dragons were ridiculously dismissive from the start.
