The pops of gold color in PTX's black-and-white music video are a tribute to the movie posters for the movie where the song came from. The movie posters were also black-and-white, and the only color was the gold lettering of the movie name, A Star Is Born.

I loved the 1930's sort of setting as well and that they pulled the gold pieces out. I'm pretty sure the set is based on the real original 1937 movie A Star Is Born.
