When you get charged the 5 cents, it's a deposit. You get it back when you return the can to be recycled. In states that have it, the amount of bottle trash is next to nil because a lot of low income people will collect cans to return for money. Schools do bottle drives to raise money. It's a pretty solid policy and reduces landfill waste by sending the bottles directly back to the manufacturers who are required to take them back. Win-Win!
You made the right choice passing on the furniture set. The seller didn't accurately describe the items and seeing you were committed (with a literal rental truck) he should have been open to negotiating.
I would have taken it and used a handle off one of the nite stands as everyone doesn't want two nightstands per space. Gosh Thomasville is good furniture and it looked in pretty darn good shape! Wow
that restaurant looks tha bomb!! so fun! but that furniture set at the thrift store was a total score! I cant take on such a big task. powerhouse team!
FYI, white distilled vinegar gets rid of cigarette smell, along with pet odors. I use my carpet/upholstery cleaner to clean main structure, and throw covers in washer on delicate with vinegar first, before regular detergent. Just beware not all covers can be dried in heated dryers, (shrinkage) better to be safe than sorry but just running dryer on air fluff, or line drying.
You need to join estate sales website and start following the estate sales in your area. You could also get to be a companies clean out person that gets everything left after the estate sale is over. You may end up with some trash but the treasures can pay off in the long run.
“User Error”. This makes my ❤ so happy. My big brother, my only sibling used to roast me with this, a lot along with “be smarter than ______., Tracy.” He went to Heaven 22 years ago and I can count on one hand the times I’ve heard other people say it. When I hear it, my heart laughs. 😊
I live in Oregon and we have a 10 cent deposit on all soft drinks, beer, individual juice containers, water, etc. We've always had it, but used to be 5 cents. Used to love collecting the bottles and cans and taking them back to the store to get the deposit back when I was a kid. It helps keep the state clean
Not as successful as the last trip, but with the rental... less trips to pick things up the next day. Happy flipping! btw: I think the 5cents was deposit... it dtarted here in Oregon in 1974! Now its 10cents, we're very proud of how litter free our state is.
It takes great discipline to walk away and not get attached to the "well we drove this far and spent money on a rental so might as well do it" when a deal does not make sense it will not make money got to trust the gut.
That guy should’ve disclosed the missing handle before y’all drove the 2 hours to get it. Then he tried to say they could be easily bought at Home Depot (hoping y’all weren’t smart enough to know otherwise!) he felt kind of shady
OMG that set is an amazing find and I can't wait to see what you do with it. With paint. Don't strip it, it will just look the same only with no wear. I loved the two end tables, really stylish.
My suster in law has a very similar set to that set you bought ans she striped it and bleached it and white waxed it and it turned out so good!!! Very European vibes. One of the pieces she uses as an entry table and everyone that comes over asks if she would ever sell that piece cause its just that good!
I’m so happy that you found something to work on that would’ve been a bummer if you traveled that far and got nothing good luck on painting the new Furniture
OR has for years had bottle returns....set a standard for other states. Now we have 10c on cans & water bottles & other drinks. Started with beer bottles at a penny, next came cans for 5c & kept going.
Wow. My mom‘s family is from Des Moines. I’m going up there in July for a family reunion.. you guys really checked it all out. I can’t wait to see what you do with it all. Cheers to you.
I went to a places years ago in Bangkok and Australia that was like Rube’s. You literally walked around a selected your food like a grocery store and cooked it. Never saw one in the US
I haven't gone to Goodwill in forever cause they hike their prices for pretty much junk. We have other thrift stores here I frequent more. One called Savers. They give you points and discounts on already discounted items. Doesn't help its 1 mile from my house lol
It’s not a tax, it’s a bottle deposit. We have a $.05 deposit per bottle/can of soda, water, etc. Then you return them for your deposit back. It’s a recycling thing. Michigan pays $.10 per for their deposit. California has something weird so I don’t know what their deposit is. It always just says CA - cash value on the tops of the cans or on the bottle somewhere. Lots of states have the deposit but majority of them don’t, which is surprising since all those cans and bottles typically end up in the trash. When we lived in NC, there was no deposit and I used to just put them in the recycling bin but then they started charging to recycle so people quit recycling!
I just got the chest of drawers that matches the set you passed on. I’m not using the handles and could have sent them to you. It was a great set, very heavy. Love your flipping…I’ve done it for 20 years now!
I just discovered you a couple of days and have been watching you. Took me back in time when your husband said pop. Haven't heard anyone say that since we left Lincoln in 1976. Yes it's true. I'm really old but I think you two are such a cute couple. Keep posting.
I know why they stop doing that ! Selling a lot of furniture for 2 dollars before and during the pandemic.Everybody knows what to do with their old furniture pieces now.😅 Nice video guys!❤I loved the French set, that was a nice price!🎉
I have that dresser. I refinished it in black with walnut and was offered almost 900 for it. It's French provincial. I have been looking for the rest of the set.
On the good side I wondered how you handled something not being what you expected. Especially after renting a truck and making a 4 hour round trip! Wish you would’ve filmed that interaction.
The set for was a MUCH better deal. I can't believe that guy wanted 400 for that set! Sadly, thrift stores are getting less quality and higher prices. I live in Wisconsin and it's tough finding cool furniture much less vintate smalls. You might want to start hitting some estate sales too. Oh yeah, paint the dresser set!
I would have gotten the Thomasville set anyway and changed the hardware. Bummer Goodwill was bought out by a few company a few years ago and maybe that is why they don’t carry furniture anymore. Maybe demographically there are some stores that don’t get quality furniture and hard to resell.
What’s bizarre is I had never heard of bric brack either until this video then immediately after I finished this video I put on the live action Cinderella for my daughter and THEY USED THE TERM IN THE MOVIE. Right after, I’m convinced this is a matrix lol
It's a recycling attachment. We do it so people will quit throwing the can along side that roads and in the trash. Just take to anywhere that sells them and get your money back. Easy peasy.......one more thing. Iowa isn't the only place that has it.
I think I’d bought the set you came for “IF” the hardware from the tall boy fit the low one. You could have used hardware from it and set that tall boy aside and done something with it later down the road. Maybe would come across the hardware it needed that you borrowed
Think your having trouble finding furniture because your showing everyone how to restoring furniture Hahaha. Well done on your flips ❤ love watching from England
Yall, in my area the St Vincent de Paul has an actual separate furniture store. Maybe ask your local store if they have something similar. Ours is in a warehouse
The French Provincial is a killer find. Beautiful and I can only imagine it in a cream with perhaps gold accents or one other of your creative ideas. Excited to watch! Blessings
Hey! Welcome back to Iowa! Yep can return tax is an incentive to get people to recycle cans and bottles. Unfortunately I think its becoming less common for people to use anymore and I think there's been talk of doing away with it. ANYwayy! Love the thrift vids! Keep up the great work! And hopefully we'll be stopping in to the shop to say hey some day when we're in Omaha next time!
❤That was a fun video!.. there were so many pieces that I thought looked good that you didn’t buy… I was curious why? I’m guessing you can be a little more particular now that you have extra stock? 😅 I can’t imagine having to keep a whole big store stocked full!😅 God bless!!🙏🏼🕊️🙏🏼

I can’t wait to see what you do with that French Provincial set ❤
Be nice to see you get a dresser with messed up drawers and show us how to fix them. Maybe putting new slides in
Neiman is so good natured a keeper
You need to join estate sales website and start following the estate sales in your area. You could also get to be a companies clean out person that gets everything left after the estate sale is over. You may end up with some trash but the treasures can pay off in the long run.
Yesssssss. I love French provincial 👍👍👍👍🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀ Especially when it is painted with pretty knobs. You guys did great!
I so love Neiman! He is a keeper. . . just saying😊
He's so good looking too.
You might want to consider going to farm auctions. I’ve found lots of cheap furniture at them. Just a thought.
You’re awesome .. keep up your excellent learning moments. Makes me want to get into it again. Your do overs are always beautiful. ❤❤❤
This was so much fun -- Thank you all for sharing this trip with us- Such a cute couple!

Barn Town didn't look like thrifting, but FUN! Glad you didn't give up and good finds. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks so much for taking us along!! ❤❤❤

Whatever you do, it’ll be awesome I’m sure❣️
That guy should’ve disclosed the missing handle before y’all drove the 2 hours to get it. Then he tried to say they could be easily bought at Home Depot (hoping y’all weren’t smart enough to know otherwise!) he felt kind of shady
Lovin that French country set.
Best time to go furniture hunting is Spring time...people getting rid of stuff and usually moving.
The little black pot you got in the thrift store is probably a piece from a place called Oaxaca in Mexico. They are known for the black pottery.
Neiman hair looks GREAT !!!!
Yes, I pictured L&N possible baby. Curly dark blonde hair, blue eyes, and olive skin. Gorgeous!!
At the 28:29 Timestamp… THE MIRACLE SET APPEARS AND LAUREN AND NEIMAN ARE SAVED! Victory! This set is amazing! The trip was worth it! YAY!
OMG that set is an amazing find and I can't wait to see what you do with it. With paint. Don't strip it, it will just look the same only with no wear. I loved the two end tables, really stylish.

So happy you were able to make the trip worthwhile. Touch and go for a while :)

Omg I was sad when the "ughhhhhh" sound was played for the Eagles hat! Then I saw the excitement over the cowboys hat I yelled an audible UUUUGHHH! 😂😂
Wow. My mom‘s family is from Des Moines. I’m going up there in July for a family reunion.. you guys really checked it all out. I can’t wait to see what you do with it all. Cheers to you.

Thanks for taking us with you through 15, I enjoyed seeing your decision process. I believe that price item is a spittoon.
That color that’s on them is so nice. Maybe just a touch up and shine.👍🏻😃
Oregon is charged 10cents. Yes you can cash them in.
Love it when you go to Des Moines! It’s fun recognizing where you are, especially WDM.
Mi has a 10 cent bottle deposit. It helps to keep the highways clean
Aha! You just answered my question at the end. Thanks!
I haven't gone to Goodwill in forever cause they hike their prices for pretty much junk. We have other thrift stores here I frequent more. One called Savers. They give you points and discounts on already discounted items. Doesn't help its 1 mile from my house lol
Some paint/some wood. I love that look. Looks like you two were having a blast.
You were in my area! I recognized all the thrift stores you visited! Glad you found some good stuff!
Perhaps check out some live auctions or estate sales for furniture to flip.

I am glad you came home with some good furniture. I was even getting a little nervous. lol, can not wait to see how you transform them.
I think it looks awesome as it is. More character!
I can't ebelieve you passed on that tiger oak coffee table...omg, I would have snatched that up in a second. Tiger oak sells for $$$$ around here.
I just discovered you a couple of days and have been watching you. Took me back in time when your husband said pop. Haven't heard anyone say that since we left Lincoln in 1976. Yes it's true. I'm really old but I think you two are such a cute couple. Keep posting.
Such a fun video…you guys are a hoot! I always enjoy seeing what you buy and just as importantly, what you pass up-and why.
EVERYBODIES FLIPPING NOW!!!!!!
You guys should get some of these strap things I got for moving furniture/appliances. They help save your back. And a dolly.
The Vincent de paul/French provincial set was awesome. I would strip and preserve, stain a light colour. Or pain partially and stain tops etc.
My favorite couple👍👍🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀ you made the right decision
Thanks for taking me along for the beer tasting. Yum!
Glad you found something finally!
I love the last pieces you found for $280.
I know why they stop doing that ! Selling a lot of furniture for 2 dollars before and during the pandemic.Everybody knows what to do with their old furniture pieces now.😅 Nice video guys!❤I loved the French set, that was a nice price!🎉
That was a great video. I didn’t keep
Up with how many days you guys thrifted but that was a fun trip.
I live in NY and we’ve had a 5 cent can deposit for a very long time. You turn them in and get your money back. Not a big deal
I enjoy watching you going thrifting.
That was fun…! Thank you ❤❤❤for taking us..!
Definitely paint the french provincial set . I can see it looking lovely in a light slightly turquoise green colour
Looks like fun shopping together 🎉
I have that dresser. I refinished it in black with walnut and was offered almost 900 for it. It's French provincial. I have been looking for the rest of the set.
I think a dark color with a wood finish on the tops of that set would be so good
I think you should paint the French Provincial. I would love to find a complete set. Thanks for sharing ❣️
Hey, I was born and raised in Iowa and still live here, you must not trash talk us! 😂😂
YES!! it is a recycle deposit and it seems to also support the homeless if they want to recycle them for the returns.
On the good side I wondered how you handled something not being what you expected. Especially after renting a truck and making a 4 hour round trip! Wish you would’ve filmed that interaction.
You visited all my haunts in Des Moines. There hasn’t been as much furniture lately. I think a lot of people are thrifting.
The set for was a MUCH better deal. I can't believe that guy wanted 400 for that set! Sadly, thrift stores are getting less quality and higher prices. Gosh the music 😂 so Doris Day feeling 😂
The hope meter has me dying 😂
this one was A STRUGGLE!
Great haul!! Love Neiman’s hair!!! 🥰🥰
Great finds. Can’t wait to see what you do.🥰
I think I’d bought the set you came for “IF” the hardware from the tall boy fit the low one. You could have used hardware from it and set that tall boy aside and done something with it later down the road. Maybe would come across the hardware it needed that you borrowed
Think your having trouble finding furniture because your showing everyone how to restoring furniture Hahaha. Well done on your flips ❤ love watching from England
12:06 That guy is BS-ing about handles like that being sold at the hardware store 😂😂😂 PS. I totally would have gotten that set for $400
Really 580 though, for the handle.
always love your videos great job!
Yall, in my area the St Vincent de Paul has an actual separate furniture store. Maybe ask your local store if they have something similar. Ours is in a warehouse
That set would look decadent painted in Salamander (BM 2050-10) or Dead Salmon (F&B No.28)
Recycling is a good thing 😊
Welcome to Iowa, the furniture market sucks here! The thrift stores want so much money for junk, and no one wants to pay the $ for flipped furniture.
I loved the drop leaf table! Do you ever get wooden chairs?
The little coffee like table? Funny, they just showed it and I thought the same.
Wow, what an awesome set.
Antique is at least 100 years old. Being from the 30s and 40s, it's not quite that old yet.
Hi, your stuff is so pretty and your explanations are so detailed. On an off topic has anyone every told you you look like Jaja Vankova?
You all got a great French provincial set. These pieces were always separated.
Well done first time watching u must say u have beautiful hair ❤
Great find…love French provincial..
How about black with gold trim?
The French Provincial is a killer find. Beautiful and I can only imagine it in a cream with perhaps gold accents or one other of your creative ideas. Excited to watch!
Blessings
leave it as is

You don't like to update bookcases? That bookcase would have sold fast once you updated it.
I love the set you got
Marketplace is doing that now. I find it annoying, but sometimes it works out!
