I find it funny that C3P0 is actually useless (compared to R2D2) throughout the first three films (except maybe in the Ewok scenes). And then, there's icing in the cake when he gets blown to bits and when his eye gets damaged by Jabba's pet, and there's the cherry on top when we can see that Han gets annoyed by C3P0 who talks like a geek and who gives him info at an inopportune moment.

That's pretty much it. He's barely in The Phantom Menace, but he does lose his head and temporarily become a Battle Droid in Attack of the Clones and gets shoved down by a Jedi. Revenge of the Sith, he's made to have his mind wiped at the end.
