3PO likes to talk a lot of shit, but he's totally lost without Artoo. From what I understand, underneath those beeps, Artoo's just as sarcastic and mischievous as 3PO, if not moreso. They can't live with each other, and can't live without each other.
Canonically R2D2 had a hand in that too, he told that R5 unit to malfunction it’s motivator so he could be picked by Luke.

Yep R2 gave it back end of ep 9. After the location to a wayfinder to exador. Dont know how to spell it. Sequels not canon to me. But yes when Threepio forgot who R2 was he restored his memory

Most Star Wars fans don’t realize how essential C-3PO and R2D2 are to the films. They provide the voice and view of the audience for the films, which the later sequels didn’t have.
Aside from Anakin, they were the only characters to appear alive and well in all of the prequels and original trilogy.

We know that R2's mission was to deliver a message to Obi-Wan, and we find out later in the movie Obi-Wan was living in a rocky area, and that R2 basically rushed that way as soon as Luke removes his restraining bolt later. I'm willing to bet that somehow, R2 knew where exactly Obi-Wan was living. It would be a cool detail to call back to in the Obi-Wan series, especially if it gets a second season..

The fact that the first thing R2-D2 points out was that c3po was naked was the very first moment we caught a glimpse of this astromech's personality and hope iconic he was going to be for the rest of this saga
That and the fact he was the only one who managed to save the day without much help from humans. He's more then just a droid.

It's harder to tell in certain scenes, the saturation of the film varies from shot to shot. But his right leg in A New Hope, from the knee down, is indeed silver, including his foot. In the next two movies, his foot is gold, but not his shin
