A lot of these things rotted to hell in the midwest, meaning that seeing clean ones on the road is almost an anomaly and makes them seem a bit more special.
Bought an 08 speed 3 a year ago and the very next day picked up big turbo cst5 and man this thing is definitely my favorite car I've ever owned and this is car #8 in my life.
Had a 2010 for 5 years. Took good care of it and never had a problem. Loved that car! Torque steer is real 🚗💥💨🔥 Clean your injectors people those direct injectors gets dirty and make your poorly flowing cylinder #3 goes 💥
I love Mazda and the Mazda community, their cars are fun, interesting, affordable. My first car was a base trim i4 2006 Mazda3 sedan and I loved that car so much even though it was nothing special. It was so much more fun to drive and daily than the Civic I test drove, the suspension was just amazing. That car led me to learnign about cars and how to repair them / diagnose stuff (not too many things were wrong with it though, The PCV valve went bad at 130k miles and that was a pain to replace cus its located under the intake manifold, but It was glorious when I finally replaced that and it ran flawlessly again). I now own a manual 2021 Mazda3 hatch with the beautiful red leather interior (the 4th gen Mazda3s look AMAZING in the interior and exterior) and the 4th gen manual is SO smooth and fun to drive, and I now also own a 1990 Miata (I wanted an ND2 Miata at first but got the manual 2021 Mazda3 instead for "practicality" and then shortly after the stars aligned and I happened to get the NA miata 😅).
i just bought a red mazdaspeed3 from 2011 yesterday with 102.000 kilometers on it or 63.379 miles been looking for a good one for over year and i finaly got it, i can pick it up at the dealer a week from now. 😃
On a Serious note though:- HPFPI before breathing. Timing Chain/VVT every ~80k. Oil Change every 3-4k. COBB AP for if you don't care about EGR Delete, Versatune otherwise (might be worth finding which tuner you want to use and see which they'd prefer). There's a list of do's and don'ts you can find on the forums/FB groups on how to not destroy them too. Love the vid, seeing these in newer vids is always nice! In the UK our lot tend to end up parting out their cars because they just don't hold value, at least in the eyes of the people, which is a shame 'cos it means some really tasty ones get stripped for more value and are gone forever. They're hellishly fun and sound good IMO.
Just bought my speed fbo for the most part bnr s4 mounts sway bars and it’s so much fun gonna get it retuned for big powa because it’s tuned on wastegate right now we think so only 12psi but already beat a focus st so that’s all I care about😜
Nice list dude, would myself only add valve cleaning and injector cleaning/check to it. These DI engines tend to get caked in junk real fast. After that, go ham 👌🏻 (until the turbo blows, then just get a bigger turbo with some small supporting mods, run 350 to max 380hp all day and never look back 😂)
Cobalt SS turbo owner here; are timing chain problems common with 2000's boosted motors? Is that just a thing? Bc we have to change ours after about 100k too.
I did the same thing, jdm motor at 60k miles then the turbo and motor mounts took a shit. Now it’s almost done being put together with Garrett turbo, race solid motor mounts, hpfpi, and other loads of goodies after a year of sitting.
Seriously get the high pressure fuel pump before ANYTHING. As far a tuner goes, the guy before me that sold it was using Versatune, you can pretty much do whatever you need to with that. 1st Gen owner here!
As a P1 Volvo owner (shares same chassis with this gen mazda 3), these cars handle great as a daily with barely any suspension mods. dont know shit about drivetrain for these cars but i can say its a great chassis!
I loved my Speed3, had the car for 13 years. Sadly cylinder 1 decided to drop to 25lbs of compression with the sparkplug being wet fouled. So time for me to replace it. Tempted to just buy a new car and then work on fixing the MS3 in my spare time. Always good to have a hobby :D
just bought a mazdaspeed 3 MPS a month and a half ago, this video is incredibly handy! especially since i'm planning on getting it on bags and some ssr wheels.
Ive had my speed 3 for 3 years now and while i havent been able to modify it as much as i like (college student) ive had so much fun driving and owning it. Current sitting on godspeed coilovers and fifteen52 turbomac wheels
Love how your videos are now less focused on wheels/tires/suspension post-FI. Ofc that's an important part of modifying a car, and FI is a company that SELLS that stuff so that was understandably the priority, but going over stuff like the HPFP and the timing chain is absolutely important. Nonetheless, great advice with the wheels.
I’ve got a 2012 speed3, a 2000 Miata and a grom and I love all of them. I found my speed with like 75k miles clean title for 12 grand and drove it for a year only to have someone hit it and run while I was at work and destroy the whole bumper :(
Yooo had mine for 5 years now and if you look after it and CHECK your oil, you’ll have a great time. Reason I‘m saying that is because I drive around with 3 4-liter buckets of oil in the back to top that thing back up every 1000km because it is the only issue I‘m having with it haha I’ve got 220k km with 310hp and never had an issue.
Step 1:- HPFPI (Corksport or Autotech). Step 2:- Quit while you're ahead and stop there, ORRRRR fall into the money pit but have fun along the way while getting comments for having something a bit different.
07 MPS since 2012; fully built Overspeed block by Jordan paired with a CST5 and ethanol blend pushing 500whp. The damn thing continues to want to tear the steering wheel out of my hands on 3rd gear pulls.
I love my ms3 I have only have owned it for one summer and I don’t winter drive it because of all the mods and I have semi slicks but I have been counting down the days till summer so I can rip this thing again and hopefully not blow it up😅🤘
Any tips for a 2013 speed3 owner? Ive had the car for a couple years now. I feel like the power delivery varies from drive to drive , even more so lately. It has an unknown exhaust that sounds good and a cobb drop in filter.

So once you're buying a BL , I mean a gen2 mazdaspeed 3, then everything should be fine and no need to change the VVT !! SO instead of yelling like a freak , selling tshirts, try to work a bit harder when you make videos :p AND you talk about COBB AccessPort ... again you just ignore that VersaTuner is making a proper and better solution for tuning ONLY Mazda vehicles.. so just leave the Cobb in the past especially since Cobb AP cost more and only give the benefit of having a small little computer able to log or update your ECU depending on your needs / maps (that looks ugly in my opinion...)
