I had a crack about 12 years ago. Cost me a fortune. Then the BDO says double points if you go to an event in Turkey.
Hard
Yep, all this put me off becoming Pro. My 30 average doesn't help either.
Love this video very interesting. Thank you Matt
Very Interesting, great insight thankyou Matthew
Saw you walking down the road this morning mate. I would have stopped and shook your hand if I wasn't driving. Keep up the good work pal 👍
Really informative video, mate....and a harsh reality for quite a few budding stars! I think a very generous sponsorship deal is required to remove the stress of having to go deep in every tournament to make ends meet.
That could be a good video to make, actually....."sponsorship deals for amateur players"👍
I’ve done a few videos on sponsorships
When I used to travel to Dart Tournaments here in the states it would cost me about 400.00 dollars for the weekend , and I drove and split a room and brought my own food , but if i didn't win first or second once or twice during the weekend I would not even break even , our payouts were so low you make the quarterfinals you might win 40 dollars.
Yep its not worth it unless you have a natural talent. If not stick to local competitions
Great video... my main hobby's playing competitive fighting games and it's very much the same there - the level you need to be at to earn money with any sort of consistency is kind of ridiculous, so if you're making any sort of money off it with substantial travel you're either right up there in the world [and likely making money through other means as well, say sponsorships/streaming/coaching], or you're pretty much just attending local events [in which case you're not making much at all, you're basically getting a cheap evening's entertainment and maybe funding the occasional trip to travel a bit further on occasion].
So interesting to see. Love your videos about life as a player who doesn’t regularly win five-figures in a single tournament
I've just done the torromilinos open and it wasn't cheap reached the last 16 of the masters and received 50 euro which covered the entry to the comp and that was it's so it is an expensive thing to do but if your good enough and confident enough the experience is fantastic
I'd be interested in some videos about becoming a Darts Events Promoter. How do you host live events? How do you deal with video for screens to see the board and scores? What made the best events you've attended so successful in your opinion?
I'm exploring starting events nights for my local league, to create a mini local Premier League-type event for a paying crowd.
Eye opener for some i hope
So you need to be nearly PDC level standard to compete and if you don't make the final you've lost money. So, if you don' have a sponsor to support you it's virtually impossible to make a living for all the hard work involved.
A harsh reality. Not even making top 64 would make 30k. It's a tough gig even with sponsers
Do a video on darts for the 2012 Olympics!
Maybe local tournaments on adc scene to fund and build up a kitty towards trying going pro
Good video as always Matt. What I would be intrigued by is a video of this sort of thing, but in reverse. By that, I mean what does it cost for someone NOT from the UK/Europe, to make the trek to the PDC/WDF, and play full-time.
Particular examples (but not limited to) would be Part, Whitlock, Heta, and for this Kiwi, Haupai Puha - with the latter three having literally journeyed from half a world away to compete and make a living from Darts. So how they managed not just the costs you highlight for those that travel TO tournaments (like what you did with the recent Iceland Open), but for those costs to ESTABLISH oneself in the UK or wherever.
It would be an insightful video indeed to get a glimpse into what it takes for non-UK/non-European players who have to uproot themselves and re-establish in another country, then have that establishment reliant upon their darting performance.
Heta lives in the UK now
@@aaronclifford45 Indeed, although he would have had to go through the graft of upping sticks from Aussie and being able to stay in the UK - particularly for the first while of his initial PDC career. Again, it would be fascinating to hear of those dartists that had to go to such lengths, given the additional obstacles viz an already UK-based aspirant.
I'd love to be a professional darts player but it's not worth it with the women's game because of the pittance of prize money and so many overheads. It's hard enough in the men's competition unless you are in the top 64 and part of that exclusive elite group who are raking it in with big prize money. Great insight Matt thanks❤🙂👍
What is the dart you are currently using?
Hit any pork and beans recently? Keep the vids coming.
great video! opinion on gary winning? and thinks he enjoys it and practices at home? thxxx😊
Fully expected it and more to come
The personal choice, is Lakeside, please help this Person get there….?!
I am trying to join but it's not letting me. Is it because I'm in Canada ?
Not sure why it should be world wide
Would it be possible for you to use public transport on the way to the airport?
Because 100 pounds to park my car at the airport is not something I would be willing to accept, if I can avoid it.
Would you ever consider q school again?
I’d never say never but at the moment that lifestyle is not for me
Matt our local team in South wales have been drawn to hold the singles tourney next month we have all brand new mission boards and Taurus lights. Anychance you could sort us 6 surrounds ? Please lol
Thought it was ally pally for pdc. But I could be wrong.
He's in the WDF.......so Lakeside is correct for their world championship
@@mikeywest2007 ok thx.
You mention your winnings after deducting the cost of your trips but this is before taxation? Makes it even worse?
Tax is only in profits not gross
Were you covering the latest Women’s series at the weekend? Thoughts on the winners? 😊
No I only cover pro tours
@@Edgartvdartsoh I thought I heard you say you were doing comms on women’s series in a recent video 👍🏿😊
Beau winning one of the women's tour tournaments without dropping a leg is surely worthy of an Edgar once over Matt? Has it ever been done on the mens tour?
@@murrayw17 I think he meant that he is commenting in the PDC Livestream
@@EuropeanQualifiersHubAhh ok I may have heard it wrong thanks 😊
Ever consider storing some of your winnings in bitcoin? This might be a controversial opinion but I believe bitcoin is going to be helpful for the sport of darts, where dart players that choose to place a certain percentage of their winnings into bitcoin will be able to afford the costs of playing the game as time goes on. Those that do not, will have a harder and harder time affording the costs unless something changes such as the payouts growing tremendously. Obviously, a player that buys bitcoin should not be using money they can't afford to put into bitcoin because like I said it is a store of value so it must be held anywhere between 1-3years due to current volatility.
