Bro, the Date are like the only clan where you could run into something as annoying as dealing with the Honma, but I guess it was obvious he'd choose them considering their lore and bonuses. medieval 2 is the best it had more variety and the different army compositions due to a lot of units being nation unique forced you to play them differently but by only comparing pure gameplay shogan 2 was better
I had played Shogun 2 for like 600 hours and others total war games a lot more, but Shogun 2 has something that makes me always play again, and again with another faction. You really need to give it another try, all the problems that you face if giving enough time of play like hoi4. Will be simple problems that you can avoid or live with them, depending on you. And having a lot of fun playing and resolving those problems and challenges of the game. For my part, I consider Shogun 2 and Rome 2 as the 2 best total war games. Games that I can go back and play and always having fun. Also if you put some mods, the experience is much much better.
I remember the end game mechanic that makes all factions war with you is bs. The naval battle is also bs unless you get blackship. But yeah overall solid game, Takeda was my favourite clan.

However it's just quite unrealistic and super weird especially if you maintain the good relation with your ally, wasting all the kokku, precious daughter, and possibly other stuff. Plus you can't actually proposed peaceful solution eventhough.. your daughter is in their clan like wtf, how immersive! It's just I really don't like how they treated diplomacy only as the gimmick in the early-mid game, can't be used like for anything endgame. Just imagine if the realm divide was actually clan decided to choose to side with the emperor OR you. If you want to make enemy harder then give the buff or something. The endgame would be waay more interesting, immersive and cool.

Also the fact the whole realm declares war on you is not too far fetched from the real history behind the sengoku jidai. Always had a smaller army than my enemy, which made them come after my defensive positions (even if I was advancing on the campaign map) and they'd always get their units decimated by the muskets, followed by the Yarimazing banzai charge (with cannons destroying the rest's morale)

this is my favorite TW to date, the setting is my favorite my 5-8 years of Feudal Japanese history that I've studied doesn't help, the campaign in my opinion is, yes it simple but its satisfying, something I can't say about the new TW games (MY OPNION), but the new games aren't bad, their just not my taste, their arcady but all games that Games Workshop works on are Arcady, thats not CA's problem, though they made Troy and Three Kingdoms, but thats coz Warhammer did so well so they tried replicating it while trying to make a "historical title" and its not necessarily the same team anymore, but I do love CA they made all these amazing games so I can't complain too much...
But he couldve won some of those battles, its annoying but apart of the game to overcome, pretty sure that was the Honma just to the west of his territory, send one ship with a full army or two and wipe it out. Also auto resolving battles when the yellow bar is over like 60%, casualties replenish faster with higher food. I dont blame him for not understanding being a beginner, still, Date are an easy clan with the No-Dachi Samurai easily overpowering anything when you just rush several of them in.
Date was my first clan ever i played, i mean when you have a guy called "THE ONE EYED TIGER" in your clan, who wouldn't play? Of course my first campaign was shit but then it got better, and yeah Tokugawa in history are the winers who ended all wars, meanwhile in the game they die somewhere by turn 4

Even then, Shogun 2 has the better Vanilla+/Enhancement Mods over Medieval (think SS/TVB vs Darthmod/Ultimate Immersive + all the workshop tweaks) The only way medieval 2 beats Shogun is when you take into account the overhaul mods like DaC, TES, Warcraft etc etc
I've been trying for a month to beat this game on hard mode on a conquest campaign, maybe I just suck but every game by the time I've conquered like 2 neighbors some other clan has unified the rest of the country and crushes me.
The Ai in Shogun 2 just gets more buffs like in HOI4, it doesn't get better tactics. If you try to wait and build up your army, they will always outpace you. You need to take a lot early and be able to keep up with their buffs.
I've beat it on legendary a few times. It is super difficult though. You have to basically just rush early game and just spam units and take as much land as possible. If RNG isn't on your side though you can just get blindsided by an unfavorable circumstances. ie. Powerful clan with no enemies on your border so they declare war. If you can gobble up a huge chunk of land early game you're pretty much set for the rest of the game until realm divide, unless you do something idiotic.
@@arch8842 Em... Legendary just requires flanking. Even with all the buffs AI units instantly break once encircled. There are other tips but the formula was breaken down to the point that it is kinda of walk in a park. It might take some time but I wouldn't call it difficult. Some YT'bers did beat legendary with less than stellar army compositions for challenge.

If you understand the battle mechanics thoroughly you should pretty much never lose a match, unless you are vastly outnumbered or out-teched/out-experienced.

I watched the VOD and they kinda tried but he kept complaining and then he said he isn't going to play the game because he can't play the way he wants to and that he wants to play the way he wants to play, not the way the game is meant to be played... He wasn't using defence garrisons, wasn't even trying to fight battles manually and just kept complaining about people telling him to garrison cities and fight battles instead of autoresolving... It was kinda painful to watch, ngl... Didn't do the game justice at all. Sad.

This game aged well. Campaign map sometimes looks better than 3k.
