    Absolutely agree with your statement on getting caught up with these giant stack shoes! I don’t know why it’s becoming such a focus atm, everything being massive stack and plated.

      @@billycc97 yeah it is a bit puzzling sometimes. Then again I have been running over 40 years now so even ones like these Pegs which some seem to say are “low stack” are a lot more cushioned then anything I wore pre “super” shoes. So a lot of the talk I feel on those who say can only run in high stack is perhaps from newer runners who largely know nothing else.

    Really interesting take. I find the more I’m up on my toes and striking cleaning the more the Plus rewards. That extra width gives stability AND a little more ZoomX foam right behind the ball of my foot which I can really feel. The standard Peg is the one I reach for… but having the Plus as a plateless option is so very good.
    Very proud of you being able to run over 6miles in them and still having your feet and legs in one piece.

      @TimGrose  26 дней назад +1

      Yeah the 7 mile run was my "longest" in almost 3 months. Surprised I made it :) I think "up on my toes" is my current problem with shoes like this. I can form an "impression" but, due to Achilles type injury, unable to really do that. That said I tried to do some strides end of that run it felt like I had a little too much shoe. Another fact is that the Peg 41 for me feel a lot more comfortable and don't seem to aggravate my Achilles as much as any other shoe I have tried since picked up this issue. I haven't felt like running in the SL2 for the same reason although I think the Peg Plus are "better".

      @@SagasuRunning I think I need to do some more analysis on why some shoes dig into my problematic area and some don’t so much. My literal daily “trainers” Nike Wearallday are great in this regard but maybe as don’t need to wear them too tight. On other hand plush heel counters can have the opposite effect. Those retro Peg 2005 a case in point. Peg Plus less “good” than the Peg 41 it seems.

    Hi Tim Grose, This is a very good review; i did not appreciate that in my last comment!
    I have got Peg Turbo 35, and i am very keen on the comparison, and you summed it up perfectly for me, to know what to expect!
    P.S.: I dont know why but you remind me of Mick Jagger!! 😅
    There is some resemblance!

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  19 дней назад +2

      Thanks! I am sensing a general vibe from other reviews have seen that some of those reviewers are now so conditioned to only liking soft high stack "super" shoes and maybe with plates that something now like the original Peg Turbo 35 and even this one are more like racing flats and can't seemingly run (or want to) run in a shoe like this. On the other hand, I have run, in training, full and near full marathon distances in the Peg Turbo 1 or 2 and I don't see why, well my current Achilles injury restriction aside, why I could not again. There was also another factor that I liked to use the Turbos also on firm trails like old railways where perhaps that relative lower to the ground feeling is actually better - well for me. I probably would also say if you tried the OG Peg Turbos and did not like them, can't see are likely to like these new ones. There is also the element of foot type and shoe preference. Case in point personal comparisons with shoes like Rebel v4 (too wide for me), Mach 6 (give me blister and I don't much like lower drop shoes), SL2 (soft and very little support) means that all of these shoes have limitations which may or may not be issues for other runners. That all said am looking forward to doing more in the Peg Plus as running full stop for me isn't easy at the moment but some good vibes that I managed to do my longest run for 3 months in them - if only 7 miles. I feel I ought to be able to do that (and more) in anything but good to know there is no asterisk as it were against these.

      I have still got a couple of pairs of peg turbo 35 original... one of which is still unboxed! I might actually get another pair from StockX if Peg Plus doesn't deliver! that's how much i like them! I dont mind feeling a bit thin under the forefoot.
      Most importantly,
      1. the zoomx version in the Peg Turbo 35 is really plush! And, it works really well with React foam for a fast ride
      2. The shoe feels relatively light weight and therefore fast!

    I just got them and will compare against Peg Turbo 1 (which I am running in a fresh pair) and Turbo 2. When Turbo 1 came out you had the Vaporfly and nothing much faster in competing shoes. Now there are so many options for speed/tempo shoes which includes running in "used" race shoes. But a pair of shoes to run for not so easy shoes that are comfortable and not too heavy or inflexible are hard to find. So hopefully this Peg 3 will work. One shoe I would want to compare against is the Saucony Rebel V4. It's a shame that Nike wasted a few years without a real Peg Turbo. You mentioned more width/stability and flexibility which is absolutely necessary for me. Also agreed for some reason 7-9 miles was about the sweet spot for this shoe. They never made it to long run shoes.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  26 дней назад

      Be interesting to see how you find them. Rebel v4 is not a bad shoe for sure but it is just so wide so having a rather narrow foot felt like I was carrying around a load of excess. Sorry the 7 mile thing was a bit of a joke as another reviewer said after 6 miles they gave him sore feet so thought had better try 7 and so see if I could. It was also my longest run for 3 months as I have been rather restricted of late by an Achilles type injury. I did actually manage a full marathon in training in the Turbos one time. The Next Nature's firmness makes the shoe feel flat when running. The Pegasus Plus (from just wearing it at the Nike store), feels like a cut down Infinity Run. Although the fit is very similar to the Turbo 1/2. The ZoomX just sinks down until your feet hits the ground (not literally). It feels like it's compressing all the way down and then decompresses (not rebound) as you lift off. The rebound doesn't feel that good, feels like you're sinking on every step. Instead of giving back energy return, it sucks it in. The Vaporfly 3's ZoomX definitely feels firmer and the rebound is there. Foam density is not the same. Feels like an Infinity Turbo. I almost bought a pair, but my girlfriend bought me Peg 41's. I would only buy the Plus if they came out in Black with the Pink swoosh that's reminiscent of my O.G. Turbo 2's.

      In a way, the Plus did remind me of the Next Nature but not quite as "firm" (well in a relative sense) a ride and less ground feel. Back in 2022 I did some relatively fast runs/sessions in the Next Nature and although not wonderful they did a turn. Agree these non plated full ZoomX shoes do have that sinking feeling which I don't get in say Vaporflys or Dragonflys. That said a short run in the Plus on one foot and the Turbo 1 on other and they did feel quite similar. I have been enjoying the Peg 41 - having some injury concerns of late I have actually valued the firmer feel and they are very comfortable. I think you can usefully have both the Peg 41 and the Plus. The use cases overlap but feel the Plus is going to be "happier" going a bit faster whereas in the Peg 41 I feel is a good shoe for those days just want to get out there with no particular performance aims.

    I still occasionally run in my Pegasus Turbo 1s, still soft and bouncy after several years and 1,000+ miles. What is now considered low stack, these shoes were/are fun and kind to my knees.
    My Pegasus Turbo 2s self destructed, both the pair I bought and the warranty replacement pair. Barely any miles, upper and sole separated.
    I think the issue is, back in 2018/2019, the Pegasus Turbo set an entirely new standard. I even used the word “revelation” when describing them to Mizuno Running product team, they were a marketing client at the time.
    But now, there’s a flood of great shoes that match or surpass Pegasus Turbo and Pegasus Plus.
    I want to like it too (the lack of a swallowtail makes it a little less special), but it doesn’t seem like it does anything better than my SL2s or DV8 Nitro 3s.

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  26 дней назад

      Ah sorry that is a bit vague isn’t it. What I really meant was more in comparison with the Turbo 2 which were at least 50g lighter than the Plus for my UK 13 and fitted my relatively narrow feet better so in that sense the Turbo 2 I feel had a different use case. OK both daily trainers but the Turbo 2 lot nimbler. The Turbo 1 fejt kind of similar in ride but again Turbo 1 fitted me better and slightly lighter. I had 4 pairs of the Turbo 2 and the Shield version as well. Agree though that the 1st version lasted longer. I got my first 3 Turbo 2s to about 300-350 miles each. So I think it as much the fit that was bit meh on and the fact the added weight seems to come from a wider shoe with a fair bit of padding. As such feel it is closer to a standard daily trainer than something ultra light like the Streakfly. Yes agreed though there are plenty of shoes now “sort of” like this. I guess the “problem” is none of them are made by Nike. Maybe though again they just don’t scale so great for me and I also must admit right now, due to injury, I only need a shoe to do easy miles and in that sense the Peg 41 has worked well and seems to aggravate my Achilles less than other shoes been using of late including the Plus.

      And PS EddBud did like them but equally was that from the POV of a fairly lightweight daily trainer from Nike when there has been nothing else of that ilk since the Turbo 2 especially as he did not think much of the Next Nature. Nike is going through a rough patch... Sadly even Kipchoge is not doing it for them!
    But it is largely their own doing-- they have got the foams (zoomx still works the best for most runners), the technology, the market size/penetration-- They have got it all! But they dont really listen to their customers anymore! They are out of touch with the marathon public...they could do better by consulting a few good reviewers such as yourself (rather than all the "experts" they currently have got!)!
    Well, Nike may do as they wish...but runners will not suffer fools!

      Yeah sometimes I do wonder who they are trying to cater for when shoes are slowly getting wider and heavier. Sometimes it feels like they think are trying to make everything fit everybody.

    Price it appropriately, and maybe they will do ok. The same price as the Invincible is sorta odd...unless putting "turbo" on the outsole costs $25 CDN extra...Context, here in Canada the Peg 41 is $180, Peg Plus is $235 and Invincible is also $235. Basically boils down to....is it a decent shoe? Sure, but there are better options for less from numerous brands. In the racing space, Nike is awesome....beyond that....meh.

      TBH I am not too bothered about the exact price as long as it is in a range of what expect for a certain shoe. In the UK the Peg Plus is £165 and the Peg 41 £130 and things like that the Mach 6 are £140 but Speed 4 £180. So far I have the cheapest and most expensive of those the most.

    I like ZoomX (Vaporfly, Invincible) but I don't really care for the Pegasus, the Plus could be interesting as a workout shoe but I have enough plated super shoes that are still plenty good enough for workouts, so why pay that much for this one? And if I want something non-plated with a super-foam I'd probably try something like the Topo Cyclone 2, that I heard a lot of good things about. If the Peg plus hits the Nike outlets at heavy discounts I will be tempted, but now .... meh.

      I think, like me, if you liked the previous Turbos and/or Nike shoes generally this will get attention. Of course if you have shoes working for you, no need for more but I never seem to listen to myself :) Topo shoes I understand are zero drop with rather wide toe boxes so certainly would not interest me.

    • @therunophil
      @therunophil 26 дней назад +1

      @TimGrose the Cyclone 2 has a 5mm drop, but I think UK12 is the biggest size, which I'm sure will fit you just fine after some surgery. The Doctors of running praise them a lot, that got me interested, but I never tried a Topo before. Nike for me is hate/love, I bought several VF and Tempo, but daily ones like the Peg or Miler all got retired quickly. But thanks for supporting my uneconomical shoe buying addiction 🤣.

    Looks really nice would it work for a non plated speed shoe
    I get knee injures doing speed sessions in the low stack no plated shoe like the streakfly
    Also I have the superblast and in my opinion it’s the most over rated shoe on RUclips.
    Don’t get me wrong it’s perfectly good but it’s nothing special
    It has loads of light weight cushioning but that cushioning is quite firm and I don’t feel any bounce from it.
    To be honest I don’t think it’s really much better then the Novablast 3
    Novablast better for easy pace and super for faster but not much in it apart from price 😂
    Just seem like people think it’s amazing because everyone else’s say it is and everyone has jumped on the bandwagon and convinced themselves
    Or ….. it really is amazing and its me that isn’t particularly keen on them 🤣
    They are incredibly light for the amount of stack hight you get so I’d give them that
    I think the fod runner might like them but he likes firmer shoes

      I agree re the Superblasts. Got a pair when ASICS had them half price and really don't see what the hype is all about. Definitely wouldn't pay the RRP for them.
      Have nearly 500km in my Saucony Speed 4s and I find them by far superior and even the Triumph 21 which can be used for a wide range of paces and distances.

      @@theghostofpcs2391 firstly you’re right it is a personal thing if something is amazing or not so I’m not arguing with you there .
      My point is tho the superblast is supposed to be amazing because you can do every kind of run it and it great
      the Novablast isn’t my pick for a speed shoe but it can do it and I have done it plus it’s way better at easy paces
      The superblast is better for speed but it’s still not my pick as a speed day shoe and it’s not as good at easy paces
      So if you are only having one shoe why not get the cheaper one
      I use a shoe rotation anyway and the Novablast works great as a everyday trainer
      the superblast is too firm for easy runs not fast enough for a speed days and I have more forgiving shoes for long runs
      So the superblast doesn’t even get into my rotation
      I obviously just can’t feel what’s so super about it that everyone else can

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose  26 дней назад

      Possibly. It feels I have got the laces tighter in the Peg Plus. I think my SL2 are slightly "short" even if are supposed to be the exact same size as the Peg Plus.

    • @ronswansonsmoustache3561
      @ronswansonsmoustache3561 23 дня назад

      I have the SL2 in a men’s size 10 US which is my usual size (across most brands). I agree that the SL2 is slightly short but not enough for me to size up. Width is just right as well. I tried the Pegasus Plus in store in a size 10 US and found them to be narrow in the toe box. The sole/base of the shoe is definitely on the wider side but I think with the way the upper is designed/stitched on it doesn’t give you a lot of room in the toe box. I could definitely still wear them and hope they’d stretch a bit over time but I wasn’t willing to risk it in case they gave me some kind of irritation.
