  • Well Its spring and time for a fun project for Spencer and me to waste our non-existent free time on. In this video we are taking my 2013 Specialized Allez Elite road bike from its boring stock paint job and stripping it down to the raw aluminum. For this we used Klean strip paint stripper from Home depot. It was a fairly easy process. From there we decked the bike out with all sorts of Amazon cheap/knock off components as listed at the end of the description!
    This was a super fun project to make the bike fit my personality more and to make it METAL as F*CK!
    I hope you enjoyed this video and maybe even learned a thing or two about customizing your own bike!

    So just as an FYI all the stock parts from this bike, which are in perfect working order, are going onto another sweet project bike! Also to clarify what parts are carbon and what are carbon looking here is the break down! Actual carbon = bars, stem, seat post, saddle, wheels. Carbon looking = drivetrain. Aluminum and aluminum looking = crankset! What did you all thing of this project and final product? I may be based, but I think its great!

    I'm not sure if Rapha makes a cut-off denim vest . . . yet. Let's ride. I've got some road routes.

      If Rapha did make a cut-off denim vest it would be horribly overpriced! Yes, lets ride! I'm itching to get some miles and fitness under my belt!

    I'm building up a flatbar gravel bike from a 1990's Cannondale hardtail MTB and will very soon be painting it, so this video is very timely! I also like to live on the edge and bought some Ali Express rigid alloy forks. Is my life worth $50 USD? Only time will tell. 😬

      That’ll be a sweet rig! I’ve yet to have any issues so there’s that! It could be the best $50 USD you’ve ever spent!

    As long as it looks carbon... ha ha! Hey man, one project at a time...you ever finish that guitar?

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  2 года назад +2

      I actually did finish the guitar! Its awesome and plays great. I just need to finish recording some tracks for it. Hopefully I'll get that video up sometime next week!

    My preferred method of stripping my frame down to raw aluminum has been crashing in rock gardens. But the raw aluminum aesthetic looks really good, was actually thinking of doing that to my old NX cranks… Bike build looks sick, glad you’re risking the cheap knockoff carbon on the road instead of some double black chunk!

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  2 года назад

      You shoulder try it on your NX crank for fun! I have actually used cheap knock off carbon parts on a mountain bike with 0 issues. Including a full carbon hardtail build. I have had nothing but good luck with knock off carbon components, however; there is worry about lack of quality control with these components, so I may just be getting lucky in that regard. Who knows...either way, guess I just enjoy the rush of putting my hands into these cheap parts hahahaha.

    Hey, do you have a picture somewhere how the bike is looking now? Im currently thinking about building up a hardtail with with a paint stripped aluminium frame but don't know if I want to take the struggle with clear coating or not

    That looks waaaaaaaaay better than before. Nice touch with the Possum and Baphomet on the hood. Maybe next you can give your supine bicycle a Vantablack©finish? Lol at doubling up on the safety glasses. I don’t want stuff that strips paint jobs off metal in my eyes either 👀

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  2 года назад +1

      I agree. The old paint job was so meh, now its METAL hahahaha. so....Sire...whats my supine bicycle? If I had safety goggles I would have gone that route too. That stripper is gnarly! Thanks a ton for watching man!

      Supine…. I’m an idiot. The supine bicycle is a pretty wack exercise from my old Army days. I meant one of those recumbent bikes. Got some sweet news from Canyon, they’re mailing me a full reimbursement check for my bike because of a supply shortage as they were initially going to give me a new rear triangle. Time for a new full suspension mount.

    Sweet looking build; How are those knock off parts riding? Gonna want an end of season review of this fine steed!

      I have about 100 miles on the new parts so far and they are great. Of course I have used knock off parts on several builds before and have never had an issue....so there's that as well! Thanks for watching man!
