if you wrap the frame (or whatever youre stripping) with plastic wrap (cling film) or even garbage bags after you coat it, the stripper works MUCH better. Keeps it from drying out. Dont think I'd use a torch though

U know I was thinking that, but I was worried that the plastic wld melt and cake onto the frame...but I'm glad u had the balls to do it...thanks man.....if there's bits stuck on, do u recommend brillo pad, sand paper?...any suggestions? Thanks man...thanks mate? ...I'm from WI..lol

@@christianromero6604 Depends on how much. If its a lot, go another round of stripper (covered). That stuff really softens the paint. A scraper (putty knife) even a plastic scraper should get it. After the stripper you really shouldn't have to go that hard. Then wash the frame thoroughly as you don't want any remnants of the stripper under the new finish. Y'all welcome...I'm in FL (but I dont think Ive ever heard anyone actually say that)😄

@@fishesfromtupperware lol ..I used to live in w.palm in the pg gardens a few years back.....anyways I went to Walmart to look for some stripper and couldn't it,..so I was wondering, do u know of a name brand that I CLD find, either here or from any type of store mmc

@@christianromero6604 brand isn’t that important. Look for aircraft stripper or aircraft remover. DONT use it on a carbon fiber frame! (It’ll dissolve!) wear gloves, eye protection and don’t get it on your skin. It’s mean stuff! For a bike a quart should be plenty.

I live in Madrid and being a teacher, have a lot of time off in summer. Heat is a big issue stripping and painting bike frames here. Basically have to be up at 6 to paint because by midday it's too hot to paint (30°c plus)and even the gel paint stripper starts evaporating before it's done it's business. That spray stripper looks decent, personally I usually use gel, let it do it's business then get a pressure washer on the job to knock off the loose paint. Pretty good method IMHO

After some experiments I figured out that it is the best to get the frame sandblasted. The price depends, but I found a guy who did it cheaper than buying the paint stripper. And the result is pretty much perfect and ready for primer😊

So I'm curious I have a 2022 marin riftzone 3 land their are 2 small spots on the rear triangle where the paint chipped off right to the bare alloy should I leave it and strip paint later on I was wanting a raw color frame so should I just clear coat it after I decide to strip all the paint or do I need to touch up those spots with a couple coats of clear coat just to protect the alloy over time?

I'd stay away from the dip stuff. Probably look ok for a while but I fell like bikes, especially cargo bikes, are a bit prone to get knocked around a bit and it'll start peeling.

I bought and tried some of this in February this year, I stripped a 1980s Raleigh Record frame to bare metal.
The stuff was... okay, it did the job eventually, but left me with some lumps I couldn't remove without serious elbow grease. It wasn't the 'spray on - peel off' solution it promised.
In the end I used a wire wheel on an angle grinder, and wire cups on a drill for the frame lugs, and my frame is now spotless. Took about three hours.
For a complex frame like the Kona I think I'd get it chemical dipped, because life's too short to spend it scraping and sanding all those joins.

Methylene chloride (dichloromethane) is the “magic” ingredient in paint stripper / gasket remover that makes the job a breeze. Look for it in the container small print or on the Safety Data Sheet to confirm. The efficacy of methylene chloride is much greater than limonene-based paint strippers.

I’ve repainted numerous bikes over the last 25/30 years and completely stripping all the old paint off is unnecessary about 95% of the time. In most cases I just wet sand the old paint with 300 grit to scuff the surface then clean with acetone and a tac cloth and you’re ready for paint, don’t even need to prime.
