I'm currently trying to DIY paint. I've finished removing the old paint, but I wanted to see how a professional does the process of painting the new design. This video is exactly what I was looking for. wonderful. It was very helpful. thank you.
Just finished painting my frame. It took me like 3 or 4 days of sripping the paint and sanding in free time. I used thinner to degrease the aluminium and then a light swipe with isopropilic alcohol to gwt rid of any residue from the thinner, hands, etc. Primed it (1 hand, light sanding and second hand). Let it cure for about 2 hours (fast dry primer in hot Mexico climate), apply a frost hand of white to the front part (faded front to back) let it sit for 15 min, apply secord hand of faded white and a light fade of black from back to front (i left a fade from white pait to grey primer to black paint as an undercoat). Let it sit for about 20 min and apply frost coat of pure metalic red, apply second coat of same metalic red, apply 1st coat of the final colour which is inferno red with flakes, apply second hand of inferno red, apply frost black fade from back to front, apply second fade hand of black in the same way, finally apply a detailing hand of black to get the perfect fade I was looking for and let it cure over night to apply 1st coat of clear coat tomorrow once the day heats up. Untill now, it seems perfect to me almost like a profesional custom paintjob to be honest. All thanks to this channel
I love how you use montana's ETOE, Ive been a graffiti artist for 14 years and its my preferred paint for everything! I painted my track fairing for my motorcycle along with many bikes, always holds up and allows for nice paint fades and quality opaque colors. Good stuff man! You are reinforcing techniques I have been using for years, good to know I was doing it right from the beginning.
I've used MTN 94 for my motorcycle fairing and seems okay without clear coat so far.. been meaning to re-do them. Any reason to use the product mentioned in the video over MTN 94? if better, I might give that a try.. also have you put 2k clear on your finish? no issues?
Hi Moto, I tried Montana Gold but was getting blobs of paint all over. I noticed that nozzle gradually gets saturated and then it sputters the blobs. Any ideas how to avoid this?
@@IraklisKourtis Hey man, the only way to avoid this honestly is cycling through multiple caps. Caps are super cheap, I would suggest getting a sample pack so you can test a bunch of different styles. Most likely you would want a "blue dot" cap. You want a low pressure cap meant for fading because they have better atomization. This modern day paint from the high end brand is SUPER opaque and thick so it has CRAZY coverage. So after using half a can or so of paint you will get some spatter because the paint is drying in the nozzle as you are spraying. hope that helps. also if you have a local graffiti shop, go support it.
Well this process should work fine on my motorbike too right? I’m just gonna paint the tank of the bike , maybe something else which might need attention , and this process (I think) should do the trick
Wow. Very nice job. I feel more confident taking on restoring my old 80s Kalkhoff BMX bike to it's former glory, thanks to you. I have been thinking about doing the lettering with goldleaf. I wonder how hard it is.
Hey man. I just found this video because I was having a helluva time with the clear coat. Bought regular clear without the hardener. I had to sand this clear off multiple times because I kept getting orange peel, it didn’t harden, and not a smooth clear. For myself, I took the bike all the way down to the metal. Sprayed it with primer, sanded with 40 grit. Primed, then sanded with 60. Repeated this process all the way to 2000 grit where I wet sanded 1000, 1500, and 2000. An OG told me that was the best way to do it. Sprayed the color on and wet sanded with 3000. Sprayed color a 2nd time. Looked really good until the clear was put on. Found this video and I’m ordering the clear with the hardener. I think I’ll go 1000 grit after the first coat of clear and then spray the 2nd.
Awesome work. Questions for you: 1) How would this process/materials differ for a steel bike frame; 2) What do you do to clean the frame between sanding and coats of paint to avoid debris from sticking to the frame. Thanks!

Wait like and hour and the paint will be falling off. Scrape it with a paint scraper, wash it with water then scrub it with #0000 Steel wool and Brasso metal polish
Hi Martin! Thanks for your awesome tutorials and sense of humor. I was wondering if you could give us more information on the "drying time" inbetween the primer, top coat, decals and clear coat. I have read the instruction on the can but I heavily failed my test projet. Thanks!!!
Hi, your bike videos are the best. I really appreciate the education. Would there be any chance of getting some tips or a short video for beginners to clearcoat over vinyl decals properly to create a semi-flat surface. Stenciling seems to require some experience that could be difficult for beginners or someone who wants to paint a bike for the first time. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.
Do you ever have problems with the paint cracking around letters when removing the sticker? Should the paint be 100% dry or while it's still a bit tacky?
Instead of using that kind of sandpaper, you should use 3D sandpaper. If you are going to prime the bike you don't have to sand it to P800 because you simply are wasting your time, you have to do it up to 320 if you want or 400 then prime it, and sand it again to P800, then paint it. And you forgot to do or to tell (if you did it behind camera), to degrease the surface, otherwise there could appear defects on the finished bike. Before putting the clear coat, you have to sand it, not after putting the clear coat. Clear coat just has the waves that it has under it. How do I know it? I paint cars. By the way, the result was so good, you did extra work but you got a nice result! Keep it up, and take those as suggestions not as bad comment :)

Also is there a special technique to get clean lines and how many coats are too much for when you use decals.

I'd like to convert my Specialized Tarmac Pro disc 2019 (Matt Satin black) to a shiny finish without loosing my logos and maintaining my black color. After sanding the first gloss coat, is just one more layer after that enough? Because you sanded it down with 800grit so I’m assuming that gloss coat is gone? Wouldn’t you need 2 maybe?
Hi Martin, your videos are so inspiring and you make it sound so easy. I followed your recommendation to paint my kids bike: aluminum frame, degreased, 2 x 2k primer and 3 x Montana gold paint. I want to mask with vinyl stencil and add some graphics but the surface is a bit rough and I am afraid paint will run under the stencil. How do you avoid rough surface with Montana Gold? Should I wet sand before applying the stencil? Any help is appreciated! 🎉
I just don`t paint a rough surface on the initial layer as shown in my spray can videos. That`s all. DIYers are not able to handle a can right and make these mistakes like rough surface.
@@ETOE thank you for taking the time to reply. Highly appreciated. It’s a bit strange, I sanded the primer to a smooth surface. Maybe it’s the way I handled the Montana Gold. Can I sand the base color? It’s a solid non-metallic color.
Guten tag Martin, Great video! You do make it look easy. I am doing a paint job for my 9year old boy who is upgrading to a 700 wheel size bike (small Specialized Ruby). I am in the process of sanding back all the pain and I have drilled out the old cable stop/guides. BUT, I cannot get the bits of the rivet from inside the frame. What are your suggestions? Drill slightly bigger holes or remove of the water cage bolts (I have seen another of your videos on that). Because he is a junior and the rules about gearing for junior races in Australia, he will not have a front derailleur so I could use those existing holes (which won't be used again) to drill bigger holes and then patch the hole? Thanks again for all your videos. Danke und Tschuss Julien
Hi Martin, love the videos, I've watched this video a number of times, did all the prep work, cleaned all old paint, laid down a nice base etc but circumstances meant I've not been able to get back and clear coat yet. It's now been over 24 hours. Should I sand the base with 1200 grit or just clean and lay on the clear coat?
Hi Martin. I really enjoy your videos. I painted an aluminum bike frame using Montana Black and used a 2K clearcoat (2 coats). After about 10 days and before I rebuilt the bike I applied some car wax to the fork and it developed some hairline cracks. Do you have any insight as to why this might have happened and what I can do to fix it? Also I've noticed in some of your videos you have used Montana Gold. Is that a better option than Montana Black for bike frames?
what are the 2 component cans a primer and a what and a clear coat and a what? is it a hardener, you're saying? kind of sounds like you're saying harder but not sure I've never seen spray paint with a hardener, just epoxy with a hardener. paint job looks great though, it's definitely harder than you make it look. I always have a bad habit of making my coats too thick I have to really try and dust it on there and remind myself it will all come together after a few coats. but when you're trying not to leave any spots untouched, often times that leaves the main areas with too thick of a coat. guess it just takes practice!
Quick question? 1. Between each coat one would sand to smooth the surface? 2. Using only 800 grit or a higher number? Thanks Have an old 1930's bicycle I am attempting to make pretty. In perfect working order but needs a paint job to keep it going for another 90 yrs!
So I painted a stem and I took down to bare metal, wiped it down with 91% alcohol and the first 3 coats came out clean. Fourth coat was the same brand paint but different can because in down to the last bit of paint on the previous can and I didn't any splatter shots coming out on my stem. Don't know what happen, but i got some weird dull bubbling on a small part. Question is, once it cures, can I wer sand the imperfection and just 2K clear coat it? Love your stuff btw ETOE!!
Great content Martin, thank you very much. My paint project has 3 layers of colour. I am wondering if I wet sand in between layers or wait until the very end? Thanks 🙏

I cringed a bit at the end when riveting the cable guides, I thought you may scratch the frame, I would have had my work table covered in old carpet.
But I watched the whole video with admiration for your skill.
How long should it cure before mounting components? I can press your nail into the finish after 2 days of clear coat curing
Hello, I am going to do this job, but applied vinyls stikers, I should apply the clear-coat with the vinyl on, or paint, aply the clear coat and then put the vinyl????
Thank you!!! I want to paint my old 90's Competition VTT since years, and I'm gonna try your tuto.... 🤟😎
Good luck!
He had to go ask his girlfriend for the rivet gun adapter. HAHAHA
How long did it take for you to get what the logo really is
hilarious 😂😂 great vid
5 seconds and supermeme came to my mind thinking about supreme hypebeasts.
ETOE whats the name of the spray can you used ?

I know my sticker would go on cockeyed, he made mounting everything look so easy. Great video
1:55 Man I love your Humor!😂🤟🏻
Can you please recommend some products that I can buy to touch up a chain slap damage on my Trek Carbon frame? It is crimson metallic red. I live in Canada. Anything helps. Thank you
After sanding the first gloss coat, is just one more layer after that enough? Because you sanded it down with 800grit so I’m assuming that gloss coat is gone? Wouldn’t you need 2 maybe?
Maybe some DIY on aluminum frames thatdbe dope D: some of us can’t afford carbon yet ;(
man it's no wonder paint jobs are so expensive. stainless steel for me from now on
That was hardcore. You've earned a subscription from me.
I'm waiting for him to say, "I'm here to pump *claps hands* YOU UP!"
What spray paint did you use like I'm trying to get the same what you got but make it black
OK I give up.

my gf has steadier hands than I do so maybe she should be the one drilling the holes 🤔🤔🤔
I thought u where suppose to do that
any chance you could do an episode on a reflective spray paint bike project? Something that looks graphite grey in the day and reflective at night ...
Thats very helpfull but how do you spray the crome parts because i want to spray the bike black and the crome parts gold
But I dont have a girlfriend 😢
when you find out you're the girlfriend watching this video.....
Why is he so salty? I’m just trying To Make my Bike look good

1 minute in and I already love this guy. Subscribed!
Did anybody noticed that his T-shirt's brand is SUPERMEME and not SUPREME
Is the joke going over your head, or is the joke going over your head the joke which is going over my head?
You cheater... you didn't buy those stickers... you cut them in your own lab on the cutter - didn't you...
"ask your girlfriend" I love that line. You rock mate :)
I tought you can't spray 2K clear over regular spraypaint. You proved me wrong.
yeaaaaa buddy I love this guy! Amazing work from a can! Absolutely crazy, wish mine came out like this!
Thanks a bunch!
Thanks
Have an old 1930's bicycle I am attempting to make pretty. In perfect working order but needs a paint job to keep it going for another 90 yrs!
Quick answer, I still eating chilli pizza, no time to speak with a mouth full of pizza.
Martin, you don’t talk about what you use to wipe down the frame after sanding, rubbing alcohol, lint cloth?
My new favorite RUclips channel
How to avoid pin holes, is any primers available which will fill pingoles
Hi Martin, is Circut good for making bike decals . If so do you have a video how to make decals with a cheap machine
I would like to know if paint you show on this video is avaible on aluminium frame also or only for carbon frame... Thanks for your answer 👍🏻
Yes available on aluminum.
@@ETOE Thank you from alsace!!!! 👍🏻Keep on doing video and sharing your passion.
You saved me on my project. I had most of the ideas figured out on my own, but a few little tips are gonna make it tops.
So, do you only sand inbetween coats for the clear coat?
Do you have to sand the frame before the first layer of clear coat ? or only after.
Same question here! and thanks a lot for your videos!
I'm so glad my girlfriend allowed me to watch this video. Beautiful work!
Great content Martin, thank you very much.
My paint project has 3 layers of colour. I am wondering if I wet sand in between layers or wait until the very end? Thanks 🙏
Im also curious about what you will do.
@@ETOE pm’d on fb with a photo. :)
Hello Etoe, good day. Should i sand the top coat before I proceed to clear coat? or just the primer will be sanded.
