This was so much fun to watch. Thanks for giving the detail on it. I love your paint job. It matches up perfectly with the whole view of your pond. I wasn't expecting the food to go out as far as it did but your fish food flinger sure can fling that food!👍
If you make the hole in the bottom of the barrel so the funnel bottom 4-5 inches would extend thru the barrel it would then reach into the food shooter.
So I bought the Moultrie straight flinger and used the floating catfish food, it doesn't fling near as far. Is the feed you are using like pencil eraser size or larger? I made sure not to weigh it down with too many pounds of food and the battery is hot. I am thinking it is the feed I bought is too big, about the size of a large pea.
I used to use catfish food, but now a floating fish food which covers a few other types of fish. Pellets are a bit smaller than catfish. Odd with the battery being hot. Make me think the flinger is binding. Mine didn't bind.
What a great build video, that thing is awesome I especially love the paint job lol I sure was surprised to see how far That sucker throws the feed. I wonder How long that battery will last on one charge. How many times a day do you feed your fish? Thanks fur sharing your build video with us and as always keep building👍
Thanks! I was pleased on the feed distance. The catfish are hogs and they barrel over the others. I'm curious how long it will last as well. We don't leave for over a month and I wanted time to see it in action before leaving. I hope it lasts a while. I feed the fish once a day and I did increase the amount by 3x today.
If you mean a spinner on the end of the feeder that tosses the feed, yes. Looks like a fan of sorts. If that's not what you're asking, then I can only say that there is no other moving parts other than the feeder motor.
No wonder you're having problems with it the funnel is supposed to come through the bottom of the barrel and that will also get the space between the inside of the barrel smaller. Some of those funnels are actually designed to go on the outside of the barrel you sit it down on top of it
Awesome! Thanks for everything but I am wanting a 30gal which is a smaller blue barrel identical to yours. Before I close your video do they have multiple size funnels or do you know?
Hey David, my version looks like it was outdated. Likely because of folks like me. I put one that looks like it will work in the store under the Gardening area. It's attached to a bucket, but were it me, I would disassemble it from the bucket and attach to my barrel or whatever.
That is what's so cool about sharing how I do things and others too Mark. We can get inspiration and improve upon the design, or simply make minor changes to it. As a matter of fact, that's how all invention I'm aware of has been done. If you do one, share it with me. I'm interested in your design. Email in description.
integr8er66 We actually have tons of raccoons all around. I made the lid hard to get off for that reason. Maybe I'm lucky? Raccoons get my peaches and melons almost every year unless I take precautions.
My problem is they reach in where the food comes out and destroy the impeller, over and over again, I even hung mine over the water from a 4x4 corner post on my dock and put flat smooth metal on the dock sides but they still find a way. the worst part is when the pond freezes then they can just sit there and chew at it, I should take it in in winter but its kind of a pain to do.Anyway, nice video, thx
Just ladt week I found they had chewed through several pieces of 12 gage wire to rip the top off. I had to fasion a top out of an old real estate sign since they managed to rip off the plastic one with the metal band and it sunk in the pond. It has been a long struggle with them, I have not found a fool proof method yet, but I am thinking about an electric fence next 😁
No offense, but the top two definitions in my online search: "construct (something, typically something large) by putting parts or material together over a period of time." and "to form by ordering and uniting materials by gradual means into a composite whole" Does that not fit the bill in this case? I even fabricate the funnel and the 55-gallon drum making modifications. I honestly don't care what you want to call the contraption, but I guess I'm wondering why you're getting stuck on the terminology? The purpose of this build is to have a cheap, really large storage capacity for feed without paying a fortune. Did it help?
That may be but assemble is the most applicable word, as the "parts" you used were, for the most part, designed for that which they were intended (Thus assembled, as one would assemble a pool table or a futon.). I meant no offense by my comment, at least not directly to you. :'( After watching 20 (ish or more) on how to make an automatic fish feeder my misplaced frustration resulted in my comment. I apologize, you did a good job on your feeder.
Your video has inspired me to build my own feed like this. Thank you
Go for it!

:O) Thanks for the kind words.
Another fine engineered contraption. Looks like it does a heck of a job too. Pretty cool that it will do your work for you while you are gone!
This one went together pretty well without a whole lot of modifications from concept. Hoping it'll do the trick while we're gone.
I forgot to mention that I especially liked the camo paint job :)
Pond Chic!
Looks pretty sweet! I was shocked at how far that feed want! Thanks for sharing! :)
I think it's going to do the trick for me.

This is just the video I was looking for! Thank you!
Great. Thank you.
That's a great job! Thanks
Thanks Wesley.
How many animals have messed with the top? I'd make it more heavy duty and maybe add some electric wire fence around it to prevent bears getting in.
Great video. Informative and fun to watch also…
can you share the links to what you need
The moment you revealed the painting I lost it.Great video though.
I are talented. :O)
I can not find the fish caster that you used, I’m trying to get one for my grandpas pond.
The specific one I made isn't available, but a similar one can be used.
Great vid. I live in Arkansas and I’m wanting to avoid spending a ton on a feeder. Has it held up well over time?
Do you use floating fish food or food that sinks?
floating

Where can we get the feed feeder kit etc? Will like to build one.
I got mine on Amazon.

Is there is a chamber fan and what do you call it ?

@@C3Voyage yes the spinner , what is the name of it sir , Thank you for the feedback.
@@patrickprimne2180 Hell if I know Pat. Wish I was smart enough to know much more. How does slingy-thing work? :O)
Next time use foam weather stripping around funnel. 👍
Ok.
On the funnel should of used insulation tape foam
matthew murphy or silicon
Excellent, take what I've done and make it your own. :O) That's the main reason I share what I do...so that others can use it.

Hummm...
It is battery operated sir? I was planning a capstone project juslike this fishpond feeder with android application and sms notification
It is battery operated.
Where did you get the funnel
Clay Bechtel Amazon!
My question also!

Where did you purchase that feedcaster? I couldn't find it on Amazon ?or Hydroponic Gardener.

I love the idea❤️👍
Can I ask you, does this machine work well for your fish pond?
Thanks!
Yes it does!
Looks like you could have just used a 2” shop vac fitting or plumbing fitting no melting required

You must not have raccoons, they would rip that top off in 3 seconds. They have ruined many a feeder of mine.

@@integr8er66 Try a .22lr. I hear they work great.
Should be How to "assemble" a fish feeder, ANYONE can go out and buy the parts to "assemble" a feeder. Or anything for that matter.
