I spent several days searching RUclips for a true home build fish feeder without luck. Then, a week after I purchased a commercial feeder with mixed reviews, this video shows up on my recommended list. I saved this video to my future project list in case the feeder I bought does not work out. An auger for a pellet stove/grill might work for me as well. Thanks for sharing.
I wish there was a way to like more than once. I mean really there are some vids that are head and shoulders above the rest. Thanks for all your hard work!!!
Congratulations ! I am here in Brazil and I'm watching all your videos . His videos are very well explained and with a very high resolution . Very good!
I am in the early planning stages of an aquaponics system and one thing I want is an automatic feeder. I fully intend on having my system fully automated soon after getting it setup (I am an electronics major afterall). This is pretty much what I have in mind, thanks for the great info.!
I loved that you used a recycled computer case. A quality job repurposing a ton of stuff. I'm jealous as hell because I pay people like you to do that kind of stuff for me (because I don't have the talent/vision/etc.). Great video!!
i think its better to use a distance sensor, so you can have a value from 0 to 100% on your controller for the fish food. keep your work going. love your work !!
LOL...I've been burned by no spray nozzle also. Now, I always check for a nozzle and shake the can to ensure there is a ball bearing inside BEFORE I leave the store. Nice job!
I am extremely impressed at everything that you have put together, your talent for ingenuity, executing craftsman work and understanding of things. Have you had any formal previous education, as well as any education in aquaponics itself, i may answer my own question soon lots of vids. Presentation is also extremely well done and i love the oh darnit moments it just shows that nothing is always perfect the first time you do something, which i think helps out a lot of newbies from quitting.
Looked like a cool idea. till u linked it to a controler that looked like it was off the space shuttle. Is there any Easier way to controle it? Thanks.
With all the work you do yourself, you should be able to save up enough money to buy........ a new pair of welding gloves. Great work as always. Practical genius.
Very informative!! Good job in the details....I am just completing an aquaponic system, 16 x 8 on a trailer so i can take the display to the local highschool and educate.....thanks again!!
Nice !! I'm in a need for a sort of screw extruder for a small project I have in mind , never thought of wood auger bit . Clever !! Greetings from Dominican Republic
The water is actually fairly clear. I get some algae growth on the tank walls which the fish like to eat. The HDPE sides let light through so it's hard to control it. I may cover the entire tank at some point. When I shot that video, it was starting to get dark out so the water looked cloudy....I was too lazy to shoot new video for it. ;-)
hells ya brother, A+ for ingenuity !!! Doesnt surprise me one bit that people are endlessly resorting to doing things THEMSELVES. Love this!!! How long it take you to make that... like 4-5 hours? if you add up all the time used. heck,,, you cant even BUY a feeder like that... auto feeders today are HORRIBLE and its crazy that there are no good ones on the market yet. Thanks for posting :)
I must respectfully disagree with your "always wear gloves" recommendation. It has always been my policy to NEVER wear gloves with any tool that rotates (table saws, angle grinders, lathes, etc) because it is far better to cut or even lose a finger than to get a glove caught and lose your whole hand. Just my two bits - I love this video... hell, I love all of your videos. What is your electronics background, if you don't mind me asking?
Great job on your inventiveness!! I love your videos and they have inspired me to build my own system! Keep it up!!!! I looked at a few surplus sites looking for a similar motor as the one you used, alas with no success. What is your source for the geared motor you use? Is there a web site?
Love it. you're very handy..... Hey ever considered making a couple for retail. I would buy it like yesterday. put it on ebay. If you can make another, I would buy one.what would you sell one for ????
ya sorry I felt like a donkey after I posted that but plants love a little H2O2 on the roots if you see them getting yellow or that a little goes a long way and if you need to air rate the water if your pumps break down and that H2O2 about a cup or more will keep the fish alive for 24 hours... The photo-Fenton reaction and it helps keep the system clean with little work like always great videos....
I must say your one sharp tool in that tool shed, other words great job. You may want to put some 3% hydrogen peroxide about 1/2 cup full in your fish tank to the algue level down. Your fish could get sick. don't mean to step on your toes or any thing love your vids peace out..

This is not only brilliant work, but posting a full share of how you did it is really commendable. Bravo! Thanks for all you do!
I am impressed with your resourcefulness and ingenuity. Your work and research will benefit others who want to have their own food supply.
I don't even do aquaponics, but craftsmanship made me subscribe. I might learn something to implement into my insect breeding.
I work full time. This is part hobby/business and do this on nights and weekends....I cut TV out of my life....frees up a lot of time!
The use of the drill bit is and absolute stroke of genius!

very impressive. I think you are brilliant too. Your ingenuity is outstanding!
Looks like the work of a pro to me. I love watching you craft stuff like this, great job.
The fish appreciate your slick design
I'm watching your videos..... Your thoughts and builds are amazing! Thanks for sharing
I have 2 media beds and one raft bed up and running. I took video of the construction process....just need to find the time to compile it all!
Recycled computer cover for fish food dispenser hopper? You are the epitome of sustainability!
That is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
Genius man. I wish there was a school I could go to to learn everything that you do!
i think its better to use a distance sensor, so you can have a value from 0 to 100% on your controller for the fish food. keep your work going. love your work !!
What heavy metals would be coming out of it? It's made from steel.
This feeder is better then the feeders I saw on amazon and in pets-mart!
LOL...I've been burned by no spray nozzle also. Now, I always check for a nozzle and shake the can to ensure there is a ball bearing inside BEFORE I leave the store.
Nice job!
yeah, I'm doing it a bit out of sequence. Some of the beds are already in plants are growing like crazy! I've taken video of the entire thing!

im always blown away by your work. best channel ever.
i want to asking, what kinds of sensor you used?
nway,your project is absolutely great..
Really lovely work you've done !!! Very impressive and practical .
very good grasshopper you make me proud!!!
Gret invention. I am alway amazed by what you can do.
Looked like a cool idea. till u linked it to a controler that looked like it was off the space shuttle. Is there any Easier way to controle it? Thanks.
Thats one of the most True statements I've ever seen in a comment. Excellent group of videos, keep them coming.

I also used one in this years ago! ruclips.net/video/anqKC0i0a7Y/видео.html
Thanks. I've been tinkering with stuff for a long time. you just have to dig in and try it....believe me, I've made plenty of mistakes!
amazing, thanks for sharing!
how are the beds doing?
you're a machine man.. wish i had half your get up
for all the work you do, you should consider buy a home laser cutter. They are only about 10-20k

Very nice! I love the idea....
Great build
Great job, you did a lot with a little, impressive.
I don't have a design or schematic for this. It's just something I put together.
Very nice I'm Fabricator u did good!
where i can fine the tools like that?
i wanna try to make it. but i don't know the circuit of the programs. is there information that i can know more?

A job well done, as always!
yup. Been there, done that....many times.
did you check for heavy metal level of the food coming off that thing....
Nice project bro ! You gave me an idea !
Do you farm full time or is this just a hobby for you? I don't know how I could free up enough time to do what you do.
awesome job there!!!! the best so far i have seen...... Im interested in the relay timer, where to get it?
I like this guy, he clearly doesn't watch much television.
Thank you for your work .
go to surpluscenter website and search for item # 5-1683. A link to the timer is in the description of the video. Thanks!
Love it! Fantastic! Keep the how to videos coming. Thanks for sharing.
Such a handy man I guessed! Awesome and thanks. happy Easter day
Brilliant! Fun to watch. You're amazing!
thanks! The best way to help is to share the videos and get the word out! Plus the ad revenue is tiny, bit it helps me out a bit! ;-)
brilliantly simple design..
a masterpiece...thanks for sharing the idea.
Interesting and inspiring as usual. Keep up the good work.
i wish there was a way to be able to program a home made automatic fish feeder to feed at a certain time
I think they only things that are new in that was the wire feed from the MIG welder and the spray paint. ;-)
Every video this guy does makes want to starting building stuff.
The knowledge he has however makes feel like a massive rookie
love all your videos. always look forward to see what crazy project you ll come up with next!keep up the great work !
i will never use any of this information, but you are just so god damn interesting
great..can you teach me how to make the alert lamp..huhu..the wiring system i could not understand how you made...

excellent video, you may want to link this to your extruder video and to your article on the reprap wiki, thanks again
Could you post specs on the 12 Volts Gear motor and the controller? Thanks again.
That is great!!
Look a similar one I made in Brazil:
Clever set up.
Nice work and thanks for the info.
Love it. you're very handy..... Hey ever considered making a couple for retail. I would buy it like yesterday. put it on ebay. If you can make another, I would buy one.what would you sell one for ????
They're commercially available. Search for Pond Feeder. ;-)

WOW! Great work!
You sir are my hero!
Very nice video, that is a brilliant contraption :)
Awesome skills great work !!
where did you get that huge fish tank?
ya sorry I felt like a donkey after I posted that but plants love a little H2O2 on the roots if you see them getting yellow or that a little goes a long way and if you need to air rate the water if your pumps break down and that H2O2 about a cup or more will keep the fish alive for 24 hours... Nice work
what are the measurements of the model?
handy man ,how you know everything about this ?
it was awesome!! great tutorial dude
Already did.....when they went on sale! ;-)
I have access to a laser cutter. They really can't cut steel...mostly good for paper and plastics. ;-)
you got there planning and dimensions?
GREAT JOB MAN! RESPECT!
Really cool!
Can you tell me configuration of the motor? I could not understand very well the pronouce? 12cv?
I must say your one sharp tool in that tool shed, other words great job. You may want to put some 3% hydrogen peroxide about 1/2 cup full in your fish tank to the algue level down. Your fish could get sick. don't mean to step on your toes or any thing love your vids peace out..
Again - great ob (in spite of yor critics) thank you.
The tools to make it will cost more than the feeder. Anyway good job on the feeder.
