I've studied aquaponics on and off for years and I really like it using waste to grow vegetables. I've been turning the back yard into a garden. I still have some space left. I had a small hydroponic system setup had to go to hospital for a few months and then I quit. I'm just getting back to my earth boxs and I'm getting my in ground ready was also looking at the hydroponic set up and thinking how to use it. Then ran into your videos. I'm in a wheelchair but I still have the spark at 70years the heat gets me so little here little there and it'll get done. Keep up the good work
Don’t grow grass, grow plants that are indigenous to your state. people in Cali could stop their water crisis if they didn’t care so much about grass. Imagine if they all just planted their own native plants that are resistant to drought.

My husband and I looked into solar power - the 'we'll put panels on your roof and save you money' kind. The contract contradicted everything the salesman said. More importantly, why would we get solar power if we can't use it during a power failure? We'll be moving soon. We intend to put in solar power and do it right.
His testimony is inspiring. Two things to take away here: the sustainability of this practice, and the agency it gives. He mentioned it briefly about not wanting to be beholden to big box supplies; it's become more evident in the last year. Giving lower income families this level of agency is not only beneficial financially (grow/raise your own food), but mentally. By enfranchising them you gain them a highentened sense of self worth, increasing motivation to do better and aim higher.
@@liquidsleepgames3661 Certainly, but I thinks its a wise investment nonetheless for the reasons I mentioned. Also those directly and indirectly shown in the video speak to the power of individual sustainability at any level. Regardless of ones capacity people need to start somewhere, and I believe the act alone is a truly liberating experience.

@@liquidsleepgames3661 Of cpurse there are limits, but i dont agree that people in adverse situations have no chance. Im not advocating setups with this capacity, however. Window gardens, vertical planters, or similar cheap small-scale projects is somewhere to start. The mindset is something valuable worth promoting; its about changing perspective. People are disenfranchised in different ways for sure, but still think starting at any size or level is worthwhile.

My only regret is that I can only like this video once. This man's energy is inspirational
Thanks mate!
The best part about this video is how HAPPY he is, that and how much he appreciates his family. He is connected to his wife, his kids, the earth, the plants, the fish, the sun-if you don't believe that a life of worthwhile work can be utterly fulfilling and bring you joy, you just need to take a look at this man and learn something. As somebody who has the opposite of a green thumb but loves plants anyways, this is really inspiring. I hope that people see this man and choose to emulate him.

It is indeed refreshing to hear a brother who grew up in the hood speak so passionately and intelligently and enthusiastically about such a positive subject as growing healthy, nutritious and delicious food in a sustainable manner for his family. Your positivity is contagious and you are a good role model not only for other young kids growing up in the hood but for people of all backgrounds and growing up with their own struggles. May God bless you and your family and all of your endeavors.
This was so touching, thank you Michael!
He's from the hood? Damn, that man has done something with himself as he speaks very eloquently, has a major passion and comes across like a upbeat professor. When he mentioned TRex and chickens I knew he was on another level (I went to NCSU where they discovered that TRex / Chicken DNA link).
Respect!! it CAN be an amazing life! A plan, effort, and consistency, always required. Before all that, inspiration. Thank you Sir, for inspiring me!

I thought I was gonna learn about growing plants but this man instead just straight rejuvinated my soul. Damm. Wow.
The mood that this guy is giving off is just too pure. It's so nice to just listen to him talk so enthusiastically about the gardening and makes me want to make one myself on my patio.
Dude has a wife, kids, and an awesome high tech garden. I believe this is what is referred to as "The American Dream."
He had me interested from the pigs. Then he showed the size of the plants and I started googling what I need to do this in my backyard. Then
he said he was 50. Now I'm getting ready to go to home depot this weekend.
Heck yeah Greg!!

Keep up the good work
That’s amazing! You got this, proud of you for your drive and determination
"Have you ever watched grass grow? It's freaking amazing!"

Don’t grow grass, grow plants that are indigenous to your state. people in Cali could stop their water crisis if they didn’t care so much about grass. Imagine if they all just planted their own native plants that are resistant to drought.

Right on!
It takes alot of overhead to start up.
@@TheSwordOne_ not denying that. However when you either dont have the space (apartments) or dont have enough money to live pay check to pay check you would have no chance.
