That level of nand flash was hard to come by at the time and was very expensive compared to the old 2.5 hdd. Sony at least gave us the option of putting in a large open standard SSD at a later date when ssds were cheaper. Unlike the Xbox and its proprietary expansion cards lol.

I have the SSD in my Amazon shopping cart. I'm keeping it there for now, just in case I do need 2-4 terabytes. I just bought my PS5, and I have plans for it, so I'm going to slow down and not rush to buy everything.

I will say I LOVE how easy it is to both add that in and to clean the fan. They FINALLY made it easy for customers to take care of their consoles rather than forcing us to either risk taking it apart to clean it or take it to someone to clean it for us for money.

Higher the better and it Obviously has to fit in the ps5. The physical size of your m.2 is 2280. 22mm wide 80mm long. That screw that was in there is the one u need that comes with the ps5. M.2 or ssd is like a hdd (hard drive) but there are no moving parts and much much faster. M.2 don't need any cables like hdd or 2.5 ssds that use sata cables. M.2 is Directly connected to the motherboard. Walmart sells some for the ps5. Need anything let me know
if you have a lot of digital PS4 games, you can get an external SSD and run them from that. PS5 games can be moved to that external as well, but not be played from it.
I was so nervous doing this myself cuz I’ve never done anything like it before but it was the best decision I’ve made. Haven’t even had to think about storage space

It’s not 2 tb of memory, it’s 2 tb of storage. Memory is stored in the ram, or Random-access memory, which store the real time memory that you need at the instant. Storage is what you just installed which stores the information that you will need to run the game, such as the game files.

Ive been a PC Gamer for about 15 years now but before then I had PlayStations and I remember having a PS2 and complaining because my brother wiped my Memory Card 😂 oh and my GameCube I still have that with the Memory Cards!
I bought the King spec 4tb xg7000 series. It's reads at 6,985 mbps for my ps5. it indicates that it'll read up to 7,500 read/write speeds, but I'm satisfied. Got it for $196 from Newegg.

It is a pretty standard speed for a gen 4 NVMe drive, but now there is Gen 5 NVMe drives that have speeds up to 12000 mbps.

Doesn’t need a heat sink. Never used them on my pc and boy does it run toasty. It’ll be fine, but you could put a heatsink if you want.
