    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING

Watching you two wander in the large stope chambers brought me back to my youth when I got into the massive underground marble quarries under Dorset Peak in Vermont. They pulled a lot of the white marble that was used in Washington DC from there. The galleries are 30-50 feet wide, 30 feet tall, and stretch for over 1/2 a mile in several directions and that was 50 years ago. They are still mining marble out of there, as far as I know.

I’ve watched you from way back, and when I found you I went back and watched all the ones I missed. There have been times when I was thinking, “whoa, that looks dicey.” This one, though, when the two of you were standing on the edge of that huge stope and trying to decide if you would try to go along the edge to get to where the adit continued is the first time I was physically affected. I was clenching my gut, my shoulders were all tensed up, and I was talking to my screen, “Oh, no way, no, no, no, you can not do that.” So glad you both decided it was too dangerous. I’d love to see what was on the other side, but I don’t need to see it that bad.

You want rattlesnakes? Halfway between Phoenix and Payson is a place called Sunflower. Near there is a 4wd trail up to the Sunflower mine. It is a cinnabar (mercury!) mine. Just inside the entrance is a large den of rattlesnakes. I didnt go in for obvious reasons but the processimg equipment is still there, and cinnabar all over the ground. You might want to check it out.

I always start feeling anticipation when I hear your "intro" music. Yeah, another "Coolness" vid. The slanting in the mineral shows how when this "stone/mineral" was molten has caused such intriqueing strata that we see. At 11:44, "Laura, you go down there", as she slides on the loose skrew and into the crevass opening! Yikes! (now, now Gly, no using "guinea pig antics.") Wow! those men did some BIG mining at 13:00. Very picturesque from the camera's view. The warm plus sulpheric smell, ..ha,ha. betcha that was just "devine"...ha,ha. Without ropes, I thought don't even try this at 19:47, wow! look-out! But you said, "no place to tie off". Whew, from me. It sure is so out of worldly looking. Brings to mind scenes from your brother's book. Hey, did you go back in and chip out some of that Blue rock for collecting? What a nail bitter explore to watch, but thanks that you two are safe.

Hello Gly and Laura the Intrepid Explorer, Laura definitely has mountain goat in her DNA. She really needs a camera setup.
I sort of recall attempts to extract ore by building underground fires to melt the metals. Cannot come up with anything more than that. Getting old and there is too much data in storage. That's my story....
Starting at 1:06, there were commercials every five minutes. Did that happen to anyone else or just me? It's getting as bad as regular TV.

The process of leaching minerals "in place", ie not being excavated, is called In Situ mining. There is a large scale In Situ mining project that is currently or recently operated near Florence AZ. Back in the 60's a project that was proposed by Phelps Dodge Mining Company, was to set off an underground nuclear explosion on a copper ore body near Safford Az, and then leach the ore body In Situ.
