Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on RUclips!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

“Gly”: Last month (January, 2024) RUclips deleted nearly 300 of my subscribers and they continue to do so daily. Let’s show em who’s boss! Hit that subscribe button and let’s see if we can make a difference. Thank you for your support!
FYI you tube has been canceling people/possibly followers and not allowing them to open new accounts, I had to make a new email address in order to get another you tube account, I have done nothing wrong but google claims I did
@@user-vs5ry3si2v
“Gly”: Thanks for the info.
@@user-vs5ry3si2v I think they stop my comments so people cant read the truth
Privately owned platform. Just saying...
This has been happening to others too, I am still subscribed. RUclips is getting rather sneaky! Wouldn't cancelling subscribers be a way of paying you less?
Gly, I would enjoy an episode where you describe in detail each piece of safety equipment that you have and what it does for you.
I really love the grandeur and desolate beauty of those epic western landscapes.
Thanks, Gly, for choosing your battles wisely. We don't want to have to send in an expedition just to save your boots!
Dang, Gly! Those opening shots were something. The subjects, the camera panning, the music - pure art.
What beautiful Rugged Country! Such great views from the Bird's eye point of view, thank you for always giving us such a great view of the region where you explore. Well, most times anyways, some places you can't because it would give away the location. And, by the way, I totally support your refusal to give locations of mines, because we just can't have nice things. there are far too many people who never grew up being taught to have respect for our history and the sanctity of historical sites. Like a bunch of stupid juvies they go in and remove things for themselves and also damage and deface the places with graffiti of all kinds. So great job as always Gly for doing your best in both documenting and preserving these jewels of our history.
“Gly”: Thank you! Yes, it’s important to be a good steward of these sites. Had this one been full of artifacts I would’ve just began filming inside the mine. It’s happened on a few occasions where I did a few hours of drone work only to never use the footage because the mine was filled with artifacts.
I can never get enough, about seeing all that timbering.. Couple that, with great cinemaphotography, great story line, and you've got what amounts, to magic.
“Gly”: Thank you very much! It’s a labor of love and I love what I do. 👍
Now with the sneak peeks earlier in the week about the upcoming episode I feel like I’m watching a preview to something really awesome. And then the release date comes up, it’s time to watch Abandoned and Forgotten Places.. TRULY AWESOME STUFF my friend.
“Gly”: Thank you, I’m happy you enjoyed it. I’ll be trying different things in 2024 to see if I can attract more eyeballs to the channel. 👍
Gly, your Saturday morning job has some of the sweetest views. It's not a job unless you love it.
You explore what I would not, I live vicariously through people like you, keep up the good work and thanks. Keep safe!
Another 52 minutes well spent, I can't wait till next Saturday!
“Gly”: Thanks! I’m happy you enjoyed it.
Thanks!
“Gly”: Thank you very much!
I am another one who does not do Facebook. Every Sat. I look for you 1st. You are the Best, dude 💖💖💖💋💋💋
Very nice effort, Gly
The amount of work those miner's had to do is mind blowing
And a special thank you to whoever gave you the tip off 👍
I really like the new intro. Not wasting time with the Google Earth zoomy but getting right into it with the usual great music. Today: "There is No Sequel", Lupus Nocte, and "Sunset Dew", Philip Ayers.
“Gly”: I’m going to be trying different things in the coming months to see if I can make the RUclips algorithm happier. Maybe then, it’ll stop deleting my subscribers and disabling their notifications. 😠
The building fly-through was great! Your drone work is excellent Gly!
Man how do you find the best music and the best places!? You're inspired Gly.
I just wanted to add that I used to work as a dump truck driver for a very large Landscaping company and we used to sell large boulders for wealthy landowners as well as developers and Boulders or Rock of any kind is extremely heavy, and Quartz is among the heavier of the minerals and that massive boulder that came down behind that partially gobbed wall at timestamp 24:51, from the size of it looks to be about 1/2 to 3/4 of a metric tonne (500kg to 750kg or 1,102 lbs. to 1,653lbs.) if that fell on top of your head, you likely wouldn't even feel the pain before it broke your neck and crushed your upper torso. I'm sure that we all have enough of an imagination to figure out what such a boulder would do to you if it hit various parts of your body. The point being, that it's not something you would be able to brush off or walk away from, to put it mildly. When you showed the other "widow makers" in that mine; I have a healthy respect for the weight of Rock no matter what it's composition because when it comes to the human body, the differences in weight between the minerals comprising rocks, is nothing more than semantics, for all of the difference it makes. LOL when you go through tight spaces that is where I get really nervous for you and sometimes, I don't know how you do it Gly! You got Titanium Cojones to go into some of the places you decide to go into! Thanks again for a top-notch video, and as always, I wait with bated breath for your next episode!
“Gly”: You are 100% correct and despite me wanting to do it, that’s why I did not climb up that ladder to explore the stope. The rocks in there were just too fractured and ready to fall. I’ll bet that stope looked 10 times worse.
I like the drone flights over the mine site. It helps me with the geography, the lay of the land and helps to generate in my mind a 3 dimensional view of the entire mine. Some mines are very complex but this works well for the smaller mines.
“Gly”: Thanks! I think so too. An overview is important for this kind of exploring. However, if it’s a mine full of hidden artifacts then I will not do drone work to help protect the location from theft and vandalism.
22:13 Notice that the lower ladder is made one way and the upper ladder is made another way. The lower ladder is made in the traditional style with the rungs inset, but the upper ladder has the rungs scabbed on the surface as if it was done sometime later by others.
I always wondered how they managed to notch out all those runners for the rungs in those ladders back then.
@@robertherrmann4823 Saw cuts to the sides and a chisel to take out the middle. At least that is how we did it. We used 2 X 4's for the rungs so they took longer to wear out. Most use a 1X board as it is cheaper.
@@myfavoritemartian1 thanks, that’s what I figured, but those notches look very precise with the surface of the rungs being so flush with the sides. I guess practice makes perfect. What with all the mill power available, one would think maybe they could have made a notching die press to knock them out faster.
@@robertherrmann4823 I worked in a mine much like that one from 1959 thru 1968. They are so very hand to mouth that it is ridiculous. It was my Uncle, three hired guys and me (A kid). If you watch boat builders you will see just how precision a chisel can be. We had 4 shovels, 2 picks and 1 rock drill. It took 3 years before we got to build a bunk house and we always cooked over a campfire. If the Selective Service and the war had not come along, I might still be there. (JK)
Thank you so much. GOD bless you
Great episode, Gly! Thanks for taking us along 👍
Some men are fearless, some men are foolish and most men are a little of both. So I will tell you once again Gly...be careful and safe my fave, fearless, explorer! 🙏🏽
“Gly”: That’s why I didn’t climb up that ladder into the stope even though I really wanted to. That place is just too crumbly.
Thanks Gly! Another interesting explore.
Very nice area gly , that cylinder clearly said " cold water " heater , unless you had a Hot springs near , you would have to heat cold water ! Lol 😁☠️
Your drone does a great job, awesome views and a good way to research what was going on.
Thozse miners didnt notice the view 😊
Old Bob looking mighty fine, the view's not bad either . Great explore as always. Stay safe ;-) xx
Loved all the wood structures. Thanks!
Good Explore. Excellent drone footage. Thanks Gly!
GREAT stream as usual Gly , pitty about those collapses , but safety 1st ....keep up the good work..
Thanks again Gly. Stay safe out there
Great drone footage and we love the history and geology! We never really understood much of mining technology until we started watching your videos - thank you!
loving the drone the drone Montague at the begin of the video i wish i had a VR head set to watch with but as a poor student computing it not something i can afford given I currently in the process of building out my first desktop computer it takeover ten years for me to actually do it but watching your video brighten my day as i get to pretend i am right there with you make me feel a lot less stressed about my impending assignments i am working with VMs
Gly, I keep noticing an empty holster, you should always be carrying protection when you’re out there.
“Gly”: The pew pew is in my Jeep at all times, I just don’t carry it into the mine unless the area has a strange feeling about it. Some locations are prime mountain lion habitat and in situations like that you will definitely see me carry.
Thanks for the awesome explore Gly, take care!
For those wedge areas you can't crawl past... Maybe we need a Mini Bob? Like a mini tank rc with a cam. 🙂
Thanks for the explore video. The drone footage and the scenery were great.
Another great video experience, thanks for the work you do Gly!!
This was absolutely amazing. Your words about the rattle snake in the beginning and all the details of the inside and amazing drone footage.
another great and awesome video thanks for making my day you are so handsome and awesome and a great history teacher take care be safe stay warm inthe cold days
“Gly”: Thank you! 😊
Sorry to hear you all are not feeling well Cody, I hope you get better soon. All the best and God Bless. Please give the Sweet Loaf a hug from me.
A seriously excellent mine & site. Really cool!
Don’t be tickling any boards Gly 😀🌸
...👍🏾🙏👍🏾✨✨✨HEY BOB... THAT WAS FUN AND FANTASTIC AS YOU WENT INTO THAT MINE...THAT SECOND MINE WAS MUD AND WATER LIKE ...😳... I ENJOY THAT EITHER THO IT'S DIDN'T GO FAR BUT I STILL ENJOY BOTH OF THOSE MINE AND I WILL SEE YOU IN YOUR NEXT VIDEO AS YOU CONTINUALLY STAY UP AND STAND GRATEFUL SIR✨✨✨👍🏾🙏👍🏾...
Gly, you should check out John Janzen's dives of the Delaware copper mine located in the Keweenaw peninsula in my home state of Michigan! He's got a couple of videos on RUclips. You'll see tons of really cool artifacts still in the mine, like several intact ore cars, lots of rail, tool boxes, dynamite boxes, compressor piping, barrels, plus amazing architecture. There are stulls down there as big as trees!
Thanks
So sorry that RUclips is treating you this way!! 😡
We love and appreciate all the hard work and time you put into each and every episode, even if RUclips doesn’t…
“Gly”: It’s really frustrating. I’ve worked really hard on my channel only for them to treat me this way. But, I’m still in the fight! 💪
Thank you Gly. Your content continues to improve with each video. I like your professionalism and courage to say now when things get too sketchy. Awesome as usual.
Must have been a rich gold mine on how nice those relics are left
Awesome. Be safe.
Your too good Tku😎
Good morning Gly! We have been subscribed since the beginning and have you tuned in before the coffee pot stops brewing every Sat. morning 😊.
Really hope we all can help you figure out how to fix this RUclips "thing" going on?
We have a couple other RUclips channels (different genres) that we watch and they don't seem to be having the same subscriber issue?
At least I don't think so?
Curious why your channel is being affected?
Stay safe and stay healthy.
Jim & Michele
“Gly”: It might very well be that RUclips has mine exploring channels partially shadow banned but it’s all speculation and rumor. I’ve contacted RUclips but I can’t get a straight answer out of those guys. All I get is… “keep producing content”. Well, this hamster 🐹 can only go round and round on the wheel without food and water for so long before he finally falls off.
Yep. Exactly?
I don't know all the specific "in's-and-out's of how RUclips makes their money, but, I have to assume that the bigger your channel gets translates into more revenue for them also?
How is that a bad thing??
“Gly”: Last month, January, my channel made less than minimum wage. Minimum wage workers typically put in 40 hours a week, I average 80 hours a week. Sure, I consider it a labor of love but this is getting ridiculous. Larger RUclipsrs make money with in video sponsorships but can you imagine me stopping in the middle of a mine explore and promoting a VPN or some kind of silly video game? Or maybe do a flashlight review on some cheap Chinese flashlight? Nope, not going to happen. Lol
Ya.....I don't blame you at all for stopping down and doing a promo.
I know a little about Patreon? Paying for a subscription to continue to join you on yoir explores would unfortunately be a bummer to some, however, it is a small price to pay for what we enjoy, would help your effort financially, and (I think?) give you the freedom you're looking for?
Sure, you're going to lose some subscribers, but, given what has been presented to you through RUclips this may be the only way the channel can survive?
It's obvious you're trying to do anything and everything in your power NOT to have to go that route, but, the channel may have no choice?
Whatever you end up deciding to do it feels like the bulk of your followers will join you.
At the end of the day, RUclips is making it impossible to simply afford to do what you?
I know this has to be tough for you to be put in this position.
You'll make the right decision.
Supporting you 100%
Jim & Michele
Hey Gly! @ 46:40 What you need is a land drone! 😎 One that you could strategically drive into those impassible areas so you can get a glimpse of what is past it. possibly with an HD camera, lights, and zoom capability. Just a thought. 🤔I don't know if you would be interested but, I could maybe build you one if you'd like. Nothings better than custom. 😉
Yes Nail's Gly! Cause a Barrel of Monkey's Would be too much Excitment for them Miner's Somewhere Robin Williams got a Chuckle!!!; )😂😅
That drone footage gives such a spectacular view ! I so enjoyed this mine ! Thank you for sharing your adventures!
Very nice Thanks
Awesome mom and pop mine ! All the wood work. A few 😱 places , rocks that have fallen or already slabbed off. Awesome video. Stay safe out there ! Hope Laura is doing ok? See you next weekend ! 👍🏻🙂
9:15 big rock right side of screen looks like a oversized cross.
Hello Gly, thanks for showing us. The timber and ladders seem in good order, I thought?
Awesome video
Love the new video Gly! Long time watcher first time commenting. Keep up the great work!
Great drone overview. One day, "Leave no footprints" exploration ! 13:24 looked like water storage
Ah - to bad the mine had those collapses. Great find and video and thanks for the explanation of the tram and rock work. Keep at it!
Coming in late to view your episode. Had a birthday party to be at yesterday. Again, you found some cool, older mines, so old that much of them are collapsing. Too bad that you couldn't get back further in the 2nd mine to get a view of that upper adet connection. Where'd you wash off your boots on the way home? It was pretty gooey in that last mine. The erosion of those hills, in that area, are a great "feature" to see. Thank you for filming the area & scenery for we "armchair" viewers.
My beautiful backyard, the Bradshaw mountains. And we call the waste rock tailings in these parts.
“Gly”: Technically, tailings are what come off the tail of a sluice or a mill site. Waste rock is worthless rock that is discarded during the ore extraction process.
Between Wickenburg and Prescott?!? Around the crown king area
OK, Gly, surprize us! Shoot, Laura is not here with you. At lest You showed us something, it is interesting nonetheless. Keep going. Well, you chose a good time to explore this mine, otherwise hip waders would have been a good choice. Craps, so it ends here, happy reversing the process. Have a happy day.
Back when the mines were operational did the workers have lighting in the mines?
“Gly”: Depending on how old the mine is they either had electric lights, carbide lamps, candles or oil lamps.
What happened to your lovely mine buddy! Welcome to AZ! I'm an old retired desert rat and former part time mine explorer as well.
“Gly”: She had to go back to work but you’ll be seeing more of her in April when she joins the channel full time.
It looks like extremely hard work to me.
Greetings from Poteet Texas
Visit the soudan mine in northern minn. Go half mile underground. Operating 1924 hoist, drill shop, and crusher. All origimal!
Gly,
It looked more like a cold water heater to me simply because hot water is already hot 😂😂😂😂
Great video! Your drone skills are A+!
Another great explore gly!
Hey Gly, another really cool video from you. Awesome scenery around the mine there and the work that went into the tramway, WOW!!!
As you stated, my subscription was also kicked. Anyway we are up and going again. Take care and be safe out there. Look forward to seeing next weeks video.
The larger heater was The Perfection Stove company, started in the 1880's peaked pre 1950 and appears parts ceased to be made by 1981, cheap electricity was their demise...
Another awesome Solo explore ✌❤🙏🍻🇬🇧
At about 14:04 you can see one of the old tram buckets laying in the wash.
“Gly”: I saw that too when I was editing. I wonder if that’s a tram bucket or just a 55 gallon barrel. 🤔
Been enjoying your videos crazy what you go through. Be careful on your expedition
Your drone-fu is strong. Nice flying.
“Gly”: 🥷
Sure would have been cool to be there when it was happening huh? So awesome.
I'm opening the Vulcan mine in elko nv. may 12th for first time since 60's I would like to invite you to do a explore of it if you I will be operating there this yr till Oct maybe Nov let me know....
That's the kind of mud I feel like I'm trapped in when trying to run in my dreams 😅
Your drone footage just keeps on getting better and better. Wish I was there.
I look forward to these videos every week! You never disappoint Gly! Thank you
“Gly”: Thank you!
Gly, great experience you provided for us, thank you. Can you tell us what the purpose was for them putting up the gobbing wall?
Watching from Australia and enjoying my breakfast watching exploration at its best . The drown shots are inspiring to see , Great Episode, you doing a solo which is a surprise . A Great find Friend Gly, always looking forward to watching your next adventure . This U- tube thing is a disgrace , there needs to be a way to make thing s happen .Maybe do a meet up with a few other shows and make them notice . Your hard work needs to be recognized and credited . Best wishes from the land down under
“Gly”: Thank you. I’m doing my best to spread the word but I’m just one popcorn packing peanut in an ocean of peanuts all struggling with similar issues. It’s tough out there right now for creators and I hope they get things fixed soon.
You can do it Gly ? Persistence always prevails @@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
I read 'DORSEY' on the overhead beam.
You should add a camera on a stick so that you peek around corners and into holes. As always a good video. 🇨🇦
Gly I have enjoyed watching you for some time. Then I realize I have a Miners story.
I needed to drive a load into hunts point NY.for the first time. I ran into another driver with my company doing the same load and we became friends.
Before driving he said he was a working miner. He had a way of saying it funny. As he worked someone hit him in the head with something. The very next thing he remembers is he was in the hospital. He didn't go back. He didn't want to say what kind of injury it was.
Being a tough guy in a mine leads to injuries!
Who else has a story? He lived in West Virginia I should have said.
“Gly”: You can’t have eyes in the back of your head. Many miners were injured or killed because of their incompetent work fellows. It wasn’t just the dangers of the mine you had to worry about, it was the man next to you doing something reckless too.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Back in the times this mine was being worked you would be lucky to have any treatment if you lived. The age of survival has to be lower than the other population due just close quarters inside.
Oh what’s under the sheet metal outside? Holes? Rattlesnakes? Another mine entrance? Root cellar?
“Gly”: Maybe all of the above!
Hey Gly if you lifted one of those signs you may have found your rattle snakes lol .
“Gly”: You’re right, but it’s best to leave them sleeping.
Good morning Gly ,, what an interesting and exciting explore. Rattlesnake our tail end could be the rattle😂😂.
“Gly”: Rattlesnakes have feelings too. Lol
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces yeah, sure, sure Gly!! Okay😊
Hello hello, Quick question, what model gas detector are you and Bob using to keep you safe? Keep up the good work, been enjoying your videos for years.
Another great episode. Drone footage is always awesome. Are you flying solo again?
“Gly”: Just for a little while, Laura will be back in April.
13:00 bottom right of the screen is what appears to be a fairly large stacked rock foundation. Looks way too big for a simple miners cabin.
“Gly”: Yes, I caught that when I was editing. I wish I would’ve noticed it when I was flying the drone but it blended in with the surroundings so well, I didn’t see it.

@29:50 you walk right past a ladder. Did I miss you look up that earlier?
Is it a coal-fired heater?
“Gly”: No, it looks like they were using bottled gas.
