Winter in Brazil does not have snow. The season only shows the sun... So... Idk how is this ''melancholy'' of the white cold snow. When i heard this song i fell something like a sophisticated abstractions, with dazzling texture of colors, flying above my conscious mind. without realizing it, we get the image of the game and the video and we assimilate them; therefore, part of the image created in me is like the game. The other part is completed by my mind, covering the gaps of the imagination, like how the sea waves cover the depressions from which they come...
If you're still reading replies to this: I really like the beginning of that part, but I so dislike how the chord progression is resolved. It sounds like it could have been an emotional chord progression with the right ones, but the scale just dances around and then resolves... My favorite part still.
I played this game for my Nintendo Switch. I have spent more than 68 hours so far, and I can see myself spending double of that time (the is just so much things to do). All this enjoyment for only 15$. Seriously, I would buy this game for $60 and I will be very happy with my money spending. This game is much better than many (so called) AAA games with high budget. Four years of development, by only one man! Insane!!!
Dude, just gift the game (I already have it). It's a great way to sponsor the game, and you can play with more friends! Also, buy the OST, that helps 'em too! Also, how's Stardew on the Switch?
This song reminds me of the time I went to Iceland. Plane ticket prices dropped really suddenly for a short time, so my mom and I had our shot to go for a month or two. It was freezing and I was very overwhelmed by the huge change, so I was pretty withdrawn the whole time… but one night my mom and I couldn’t sleep, so we went outside in our snow suits and stared at the stars in awe. There was absolutely no sound, just us in the whole world. The sky was so full of stars that there was barely a spot of black. The wind was still, and for a moment, life was too.
The wind can be still... that makes me think of those days here in Colorado when it's frigid cold, but I venture out anyway, and as I'm walking, all bundled up, the snow stops falling, and the sky clears. There is no wind, and I look up at the full moon, a pearlescent gem placed in midst a lavender sky. It's stunning.
I really like this part as well, it feels as if this man that lost everything to something now stands at the grave with his hand in a fist while he's looking up, making it one of those "I'm going to get my ultimate goal fulfilled since now I have enough inspiration to do so" moments.
This song always makes me want to be social with the npcs... probably because in my very first winter there was often nothing productive to do, so I went to town giving gifts to everyone. Also I went to Leah's house each morning to talk to her as I wanted to marry her... those were good times.
seeing these comments from 2.. 3 even 4 years ago. Makes me sad. I really hope everyone in this comment section comes back to the game.. I started playing this game a few months ago. it literally saved me.
I love this game over Animal Crossing. The fact Stardew is a game that helped me cope with things is a good thing. Music is beautiful and the atmosphere.
This game is a masterpiece, the music, characters, the whole universe that this game makes in a small city is amazing, and all was made by one person, Im glad to be playing it.
I just came back and I've put in 60 hours co-op with my friend over the last couple months, it was really a godsend during this pandemic. This song is unbelievable, but the entire game is pretty much on that level as well.
I found this so beautiful the first time I heard it as I'd not realised there was no such thing as a winter crop, so I walked around in the snow at a loss for day, figuring out what I wanted to do. This tune captures that sense of serene isolation that bleak winter's day can bring.
God, I love the chord progressions in this! The lead synth that kicks in at 0:52 is just so serene. It starts off so peaceful, but with that key change at 1:25 with how the progression ends, there’s so much sadness and longing in that... Excellent work.
thw first i heard it i wanted to cry because i was so overwhelmmed by the tasks in stardew plus this weirdly nostalgic and sad song, it just sticks out
It makes me cry too! But only because it brings back memories of the Stardew Valley Game I had for three years...then my ps4 got corrupted and it washed it.
dude.. me too. I cried cause when I played this game I was at such a low point the characters seemed to be my only friends man. Sad, ik. But literally this game saved me, and it's probably saved you too 🥺 I hope you still play the game man
This song brings tears to my eyes, everyone mentions 2:30 which is a great part dont get me wrong but that opening just opens the water gates, so many memories,,,
Es un sentimiento de nostalgia, como si los recuerdos volvieran y descansarán luego de un largo día y solo quieres sentir paz y descanso. Eso es la última parte del OST
I listened to this song in the midst of a snowstorm. It was dark. I was out with my dog. The snowflakes would hit me on my cheek every now and then, melting and leaving behind a stinging sensation. I could feel the cold in my toes as I looked down at the snow illuminated orange by the porch light. Despite the clouds many stars still shined through. And a bright, almost full moon. The song matched the mood perfectly. Really made me think, reflect on things. Made me remember things previously lost in the sands of time.
Nobody will see this, but it's okay, I just want to keep this registered for the future Leo. I live in south of Brazil, and 3 weeks ago it started raining here as never has before. It resulted in the massive floods that affected the state where I live and changed our lives forever. Half of the capital and the metropolitan cities were destructed, flooded, roads blocked, water shortage, literally A MILLION people out of their homes, letting their houses with no more than their own clothes and their pets in the arms. Lots of people around me affected, and especially for me, my parents and my sister lost everything in their house to the flood (in fact, they weren't able to return yet), the chaos is immeasurable. These certainly are the worst weeks of our lives, waiting for my parents and our beloved pets to be rescued and safe, fortunately it all went well for my family. I am fortunate enough to live in an apartment where I wasn't affected directly by the flood, so despite being affected with water and power shortage, I was able to have a cozy and warm place to spend my days - and fortunately my parents, sister and the pets as well after they were rescued from the 2nd floor with boat rescue since the water was already high. I'm a very anxious person, I took medicine everyday to keep my panic syndrome under control, but it's hard to just stay in your home while the world is ending - your family needing rescue, but at the end, it being out of your control. It was better that I stayed safe in my home, but the human mind goes nuts when you're supposed to sit down and relax while all this happens a few kilometres away. So, since all this has started, Stardew Valley has been my mind refugee, my safe place, where my problems vanish while I play the game - funnily enough, kind like the cutscene from Caroline. This song represents this moment, this song is now very special for me, where I found and still find a moment of peace in the chaos, where my mind let me relax and appreciate the peacefulness of the game. Winter didn't start yet here, but it will be the hardest winter of our lives, cleaning, building, buying, reconstructing, basically resuming our lives from the mud, from the dirty water that flooded and destructed our lives. Unfortunately life doesn't have a save - like when I blew my farm with a megabomb and I did ALT + F4 to revert the accident -, but that's okay, we all do have hard times. I used to think that Stardew Valley was my favorite game of all time, but returning to play after years to keep my farm alive with the new updates has given a new meaning to the game, especially in this context.
Forças meu amigo! Todo tempo ruim passa, e esse vai passar também. Espero que você volte aqui depois de um tempo e sinta paz e alivio ao perceber que isso ficou apenas como uma memória distante, que de alguma forma, fez todo mundo mais forte.
I'm from South America. I've never, ever, experienced touching snow. I never built a snowman like the movies, never saw a snowflake, never saw winter like people always showed. Here, the winter it's just like like any other weather... But cold and kinda rainy. Where I live, there is people who born and died without feeling snow. We always saw the movies and cartoons show how fun it is the snow, the winter, because of it. The beauty of the snow at the christmas, the cold yet pretty vision of the snowflakes. Because of that, I feel I never experienced winter like most people on the planet did. Stardew Valley was one of the games that made me pretty close to how I would feel. This song... Almost made my cry. I don't know if it is of sadness of happiness, just, I remember the rainy days of my school. I remember the cold days where I got sick and had to stay home. My dream is to feel the snow one day, even if it's just for one. I want to see it, and fulfill a dream that maybe so many brazilians wanted.
2:30 just reminds me of a nostalgic time that didn’t exist, looking up into the night as the snow filled wind spins around me, completely burying me at 2:45. The amount of completely unique and thoughtful songs this game has is truly amazing. Well done Eric
The music reminds me of the cold winter nights in Illinois. As a child, watching the snow fall and pile up onto our yard. Neighborhood was so struggling and broken yet it all looked so beautiful in Fall and Winter. Bundled up in blankets…
This song makes me think of my recently passed mom, I started playing this just before she died, and for some reason this winter song makes me think of her.
lost my mum to cancer 4 years ago. not a day goes by where she isn't in my thoughts. this song reminds me of all the good times we had. thinking of you and your family. it slowly gets easier with time much love bro 💕💕
God this song reminds me of playing stardew with my friends. Recently got back into stardew and booted up an old multiplayer world, almost cried when i heard this play while looking at all the stuff i did with those guys. Truly a beautiful song and it will remain my favourite song forever. For me this song is on the same nostalgia level as c418 minecraft songs.
So far you are the only other person i have encountered on the internet who associates this song with Christmas, etc. I LOVE Stardew Valley and i'm also a 24/7 Christmas fanatic and for some reason the very first time i heard this song, i IMMEDIATELY started thinking about Christmas, snow, etc.. Good for you!
started playing this game a week ago, i have 70 hours by now, i'm really enjoying it. Really see this becoming my favorite game and spending +500 hours on it. Thank you so much ConcernedApe
There was this on time I went on a fun Camp out for a week, one of the events we did was a campout on a rock formation overnight, and It was mostly clear all night. I was listening to an undertale song, and I had this amazing moment with the universe for like 2 hours and then I fell asleep. But this song makes me recall that feeling, even though I haven't been camping in over a year.
2:30 something about that part radiates much deeper than the rest of the song to me. The whole OST feels like it has something lurking beneath, like it extends and delves so much deeper. But here, as the music swells, it feels melancholy, almost. (this is my interpretation!!) I imagine a hero, standing atop a fluffy, frost covered hill, cheeks pink with excitement, the sense of victory still fresh in their lungs. But as they stare at what would be the town they meant to save, all they see is a serene scene of a landscape that's completely blank; just miles, upon miles, of unnaturally flat land. No houses, people, hills, or even evidence of destruction. It's just an empty field, powdery white with snow, mountains hazy and blue on the horizon. The air radiates something unnatural. Then, 2:30 hits, the hero's eyes widen, for they know what the villain had done in their last moments. Everything the hero had fought for is gone- but peace is still restored for the rest of the world. The hero sinks to their knees, and the screen falls into pitch black. sorry for the long rant, haha! i enjoy writing a sad story and just felt like this would fit!
Your rant is welcome. I imagine something similar. A first person walk through in a densely snowed in forest, during the day. Alone, exploring, yet in the end, content and at peace, with something lurking just beyond at the end, that leads them on.
I imagine stepping outside, forcing the door open against the barricade of freshly fallen show. The cold, dry air instantly shocks my senses, forcing me to take a sharp breath in. The sky is a cloudless blue, the sun blinding, yet everything remains frozen. The snow soundproofs the entire world. There are no birds, no insects, no wind, only the pulse in my ears. If you have experienced the true stillness of winter after a heavy snow, then you have experienced perfection.
here because i used to play stardew valley with one of my old friends who i dont talk to anymore (he got me to buy the game) and also about the fact that Yabujin sampled this on his track "Renegade"
I got this game a week ago and it’s perfect for this time of year. With all the stress and struggles of 2020 going into 2021, this game makes me forget the worries and stress of life and allows me to relax. It’s perfect.
I got this game a week ago too! :) I love it so far, I had to look up this OST because I had gotten into winter recently. When I first heard it, I literally had to stop and listen, it is so beautiful.
Reminds me somewhat of Earthbound music, but also, just whenever I hear this I feel warm and cozy inside, thinking of all the people in town relaxing indoors
Winter, a time where the farming slows, a time to go do anything you might want to do before the year ends. A tear rolls down your face as you and your friends all finish the year off. You cry out loud scared of when you might grow up, afraid of everything that will happen. I was introduced to this game about 5 months ago, played with my friends for one month, then we recently got back into it. Every time this song comes on, it makes me feel okay, like nothing bad will happen, like the world is a good place, but its not. I'm scared to grow up. I don't want to grow up and move on, and have the possibility of never seeing my friends again. I'm scared. But this makes me feel like everything is just fine, even for just a moment. I don't want to be alone. I don't want to move on. But that's life.
I just started playing stardew valley and I'm currently experiencing my first winter in the game and I literally fell in LOVE with this song when I first heard it. My game is currently paused right now because this song just finished playing and I decided to look it up 😭
I played the game about 3 years ago, completed the community center twice, these songs make me feel so nostalgic...this was my favorite game at the time.
+TitanKämpfer I love winter. Its my holiday season. I love the feeling that everywhere is quiet and lonely and white with snow. I'll take a walk around in the morning completely carefree. Then i go back into my cabin house, sit in front of the fire with my feet up. Read a book and have a cup of tea. In reality, i live by the sea. Friken salt in the air. Rarely any snow.
+TitanKämpfer Winter in Stardew Valley is great since it gives you more time to explore with no worrying about crops and exploring every level of the mines and everywhere else
Stardew valley is one of the best game I have ever played. And I never regret how much time I wasted playing this. Such a masterpiece. 100% recommend to my friends
Glad i bought it on the switch. As a kid i enjoyed harvest moon and i bought stardew valley to satisfy the lack of harvest moon and boy was i more than satisfied. In my opinion this game can totally stand by its own probably even surpassing HM. Love this song specially the part from second 0:51 onwards
This song always comes to mind. Played this game a lot after my fiance died, stopped playing and now I can't seem to come back to it, emotions run high.
2:29 A thousand emotions! Feels like a friend when I listen to it, the whole soundtrack does. Amazing stuff, all the best to the creator! Ps. Listen to this on shrooms wowowowowo
When i was growing up i lived in a small house near the woods. Life was hard, we were poor, dad was out of the picture and school was very far away. But it was beautiful and especially during winter. This game and it's soundtrack brings me back to that time and makes me happy like no other game ever has. I don't regret a single second of the 300+ hours I spent playing. Keep up the good work
I went for a walk in the snow while listening to this last year. every time winter rolls around in my stardew valley game and i hear this, all i can think about is that walk. I cant wait for it to be winter because there is nothing i want more than to experience that again. ive spent so much of the last few years sitting at my computer that when i go outside and see how beautiful it is i feel like crying. standing outside while its snowing makes me feel the calmest ive ever felt. my brain seems to never slow down and i always am anxious or worried about something but watching snow fall seems to clear my head and make me feel empty in a good way. if your reading this you should try going for walks, even just short ones it truly helps me lots
This sounds reminiscent of a Disasterpeace song in all the best ways. When winter comes to Stardew Valley this track is so fitting. What a great piece!
it might sound like earthbound to you because that exact same E -> Eb over a C->B chord progression is used in the earthbound song "winters white!" at the very beginning, even :) For a non-video game example check out "Bus Stop" by The Hollies. Same thing happens in the chorus!
2:30 is the greatest thing I've ever heard
Gor yup i feel sad
I know... best part of the song
It sounds so familiar to me
Dudes no lies that part sounds like Earthbound
Anyone know what I can search to find similar sounding stuff?
beautiful, yet melancholy. such is winter.
+Ace Gaming LPs Yeah, I thought the same. Winter is calm, empty and melancholic, and this track fits it perfectly. Love this to death.
+Mateus Theo You should try writing poetry more
+Mateus Theo Thanks for your awesome thoughts on this. I was actually just wondering if Brazillian people played this
How is melancholy a contradiction to beautiful though?
That little flip into major juuuust for a second at 2:30 is fucking magic. It really makes this song for me.
Whenever I'm playing the game and I hear that part, I just sink into my chair. I have no idea why but it seems to represent winter so perfectly.
It really is
That part is perfection. Its my favorite song in the game for that alone.
Big same

“The flow of time is so delicate… even the tiniest decision changes the future forever.”
You know that's sort of what I think the appeal of this game is. And of Harvest Moon. It simulates a chunk of human existence.
Yes it does and I love it for that :)
It really does make you feel that way... The game in general just makes me think about life itself. It's quite amazing and scary at the same time.
The wind can be still... that makes me think of those days here in Colorado when it's frigid cold, but I venture out anyway, and as I'm walking, all bundled up, the snow stops falling, and the sky clears.
I want to see it, and fulfill a dream that maybe so many brazilians wanted.
beautiful yet sad
Grad to see there are people returning to Stardew Valley ost after many years passed.
Bundled up in blankets…
wow same, and I lived there too @@WhoDaF0ok1sThatGuy
@@GioViDa Illinois truly is a beautiful state in my eyes! Happy to see another Illinoian!
Reminds me of earthbound
+Gigiopo The principal synth of the song is the same used in earthbound music
Gigiopo i thought I was the only one
Gigiopo that was the first thing I thought when I heard the song for the first time!
Hell yeah, that's why I feel special with this theme ♥ !
Specifically the part starting 2:30, very Earthbound-y.
tfw ross bob comes back to feed the cat
F
1 minute in and the bliss begins
This song makes me think of my recently passed mom, I started playing this just before she died, and for some reason this winter song makes me think of her.
lost my mum to cancer 4 years ago. not a day goes by where she isn't in my thoughts. this song reminds me of all the good times we had. thinking of you and your family. it slowly gets easier with time much love bro 💕💕
God damn it
Stay strong brothers
It's some kind of effect on the brain i think
I listened to a song one hour before my dog died and now the song always reminds of the dog
My favorite song from this game.
* christmas is coming *
me: * plays the music *
So far you are the only other person i have encountered on the internet who associates this song with Christmas, etc. I LOVE Stardew Valley and i'm also a 24/7 Christmas fanatic and for some reason the very first time i heard this song, i IMMEDIATELY started thinking about Christmas, snow, etc.. Good for you!
Man this is legit the best OST i've ever heard. So many mixed feelings that makes me confortable.
It really feels the emptiness and peace of the winter time
This song makes you contemplate life and the choices you have made. Why? Because The Wind Can Be Still.
Cringe
NOW LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT
i dont get it but sounds edgy
I have reconsidered my entire life man jesus that was deep
2:31 is so damn good. I wish there was an extended track based on this section
Bro, why am I crying to this music
started playing this game a week ago, i have 70 hours by now, i'm really enjoying it. Really see this becoming my favorite game and spending +500 hours on it. Thank you so much ConcernedApe
How it's going?
This is my favorite song in winter. Very relaxing, lets you sit at your farm porch till you pass out and not even realize it until the text kicks in.
If anyone had played this to me before knowing about Stardew Valley and said it was by Vangelis, I would have totally believed that.
(this is my interpretation!!)
I imagine a hero, standing atop a fluffy, frost covered hill, cheeks pink with excitement, the sense of victory still fresh in their lungs.
Alone, exploring, yet in the end, content and at peace, with something lurking just beyond at the end, that leads them on.
my favorite of the game. words cannot describe what i feel listening to this song.
This song was my exs favorite from this game. And I listen to it and miss him. It reminds me of us playing stardew together and it hurts so bad.
I'm sorry ❤ hope you can find peace ❤
I think this was the moment I truly fell in love with this game
I imagine stepping outside, forcing the door open against the barricade of freshly fallen show. The cold, dry air instantly shocks my senses, forcing me to take a sharp breath in. The sky is a cloudless blue, the sun blinding, yet everything remains frozen. The snow soundproofs the entire world. There are no birds, no insects, no wind, only the pulse in my ears. If you have experienced the true stillness of winter after a heavy snow, then you have experienced perfection.
Tranquil,nostalgic,depression
,sadness but, it also makes me happy somehow what a masterpiece
It fits perfect with the winter theme in this game
Majestic & mysterious synth ambient. 🎹🎵
This little moment at 1:23 is beautifully cinematic, I melt every time it gets to this point in the song.
1:10 to 1:38 is the most incredible feeling ever
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RIP Ross Bob
rip ross bob indeed. he even came back from the dead to feed the cat, may his kind soul rest in the fluffiest of clouds.
@Goodbye go watch RTGame's sims 3 streams and you will understand the joke
here because i used to play stardew valley with one of my old friends who i dont talk to anymore (he got me to buy the game) and also about the fact that Yabujin sampled this on his track "Renegade"
When I first heard it, I literally had to stop and listen, it is so beautiful.
this song gives me goosebumps every time... its just so somber and beautiful. It's like it is singing directly to me and for me. Amazing song.
Reminds me somewhat of Earthbound music, but also, just whenever I hear this I feel warm and cozy inside, thinking of all the people in town relaxing indoors
pineapple-XL yeah nice to see someone agrees
this just gives a diffrent vibe i cant explain it
This is my absolute favorite theme in this game! I love it so much
Welcome to winter, everyone!!
One of my favorite themes!
Sad that it only plays in one of my least liked seasons (ingame). D:
SAME
+TitanKämpfer i love winter! i guess no one asked though x) but this is my favorite in the ost and an awesome season for me so it feels good c:
+TitanKämpfer I love winter. Its my holiday season. I love the feeling that everywhere is quiet and lonely and white with snow. I'll take a walk around in the morning completely carefree. Then i go back into my cabin house, sit in front of the fire with my feet up. Read a book and have a cup of tea.
In reality, i live by the sea. Friken salt in the air. Rarely any snow.
+TitanKämpfer Winter in Stardew Valley is great since it gives you more time to explore with no worrying about crops and exploring every level of the mines and everywhere else
Lasfial
But the problem was, I already explored the whole mines before winter started the first time xD
My fav song from stardew valley. it's so nostalgic for some reason, i feel happy
Stardew valley is one of the best game I have ever played. And I never regret how much time I wasted playing this. Such a masterpiece. 100% recommend to my friends
Time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time :)
Played this game a lot after my fiance died, stopped playing and now I can't seem to come back to it, emotions run high.
listening to this on a walk home in the dark. i'm almost home, and this helped me stay calm and collected. thank you, stardew valley!!
This song is the persona of winter. Every time I hear this I get shivers. The part at the end is the best part.
2:05 to the end... the resolution is so good
Never tired of returning to this game and playing it again and again ❤️
I think i am going to play this game again from the beginning. It was really a great adventure, and a lot of feelings, that AAA games can't give me
I love how calm Stardew Valley is
I cannot believe I let such a wholesome game completely slip underneath my radar. The level of Zen this game has is untrue
this song brings me to tears and im not sure why
Rest In Peace Ross Bob, The best Sim ever...
best sound track in the game by far
2:29 A thousand emotions! Feels like a friend when I listen to it, the whole soundtrack does.
Amazing stuff, all the best to the creator!
Ps. Listen to this on shrooms wowowowowo
When i was growing up i lived in a small house near the woods. Life was hard, we were poor, dad was out of the picture and school was very far away. But it was beautiful and especially during winter. This game and it's soundtrack brings me back to that time and makes me happy like no other game ever has. I don't regret a single second of the 300+ hours I spent playing. Keep up the good work
All I want and need in my life is for this game to be revived for just ONE day. Just one. That's all I need.
We all agree with this is the best song in Stardew Valley?. No?
I love stardew!!!
This is my favorite song on this ost. So beautiful, calming, ethereal, and sad. Perfect tune for winter.
2:30 is very Earthbound, and I can't give this song higher praise than that particular piece of nostalgia.
I thought that reminded me of something!
This game is the new Earthbound.
Long: Check.
Fun: Check.
Beautiful Music: Check.
The song home sweet home sounds similar
it might sound like earthbound to you because that exact same E -> Eb over a C->B chord progression is used in the earthbound song "winters white!" at the very beginning, even :) For a non-video game example check out "Bus Stop" by The Hollies. Same thing happens in the chorus!
The fact that one man gave me one of my all time favorite games is just-
I LOVE THIS SONG SM I CAN’T
M A N, the nostalgia hits like a TRUCK
I hear this track whenever I see snow falling where I live.
Same 😌
This song is perfect, very relaxing, it always gave me a good vibe 🤌🏻
The whole song is fantastic but the first minute is especially beautiful.
