I played this game non stop when my grandma died a few months ago. After she died I just suddenly put down stardew. The last song I ever heard before I put it down was this song, the nocturne of ice, sitting in the waiting room while my grandma was in the hospital bed. Stardew felt like a thing of the past. Today I was bored so I just logged into Stardew to play around with it again, when I loaded into my world this was the song that greeted me. All of a sudden I was rushed with emotion, I suddenly felt like I was sitting back in that same waiting room. Words can’t even describe how much this song means to me. It is beautiful but sad all in the same time.
...My mom was killed a few months ago, and reading your comment just... I'm sorry about your grandma and... This song makes me think of my mom as well... It feels like yesterday she was here yet it feels like forever ago at the same time. I don't think I'll ever get better, but this song still soothes me as it does you. We shall experience its emotion together while we mourn for our loved ones. Praying for you, friend.
There is such an amazing diversity to the music. It's pretty clear to me that he did all of this because he just had so many ideas for the game, and music was his most basic way to express them.
Him and Toby Fox are very similar at what they both accomplished. Self-made games, winning hearts of millions with an amazing synth soundtrack, that has both mellow and uplifting sound. Terrific.
@@paulaldo9413 yea its not far off the reality, especially when it's snowing and you see it from a window on your cosy couch, that's the vibe the song gave me
@@Senneih_cram If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow… Where I live, winter is almost the same as fall and spring - it rains a lot. Only difference is it’s colder and the trees are bare.
Every once in a while I play Stardew with my five-year-old, she loves to see the farm. Everytime this song comes up she says it's the "sad song" and hugs me tight, saying that she "misses me" when she hears it. She already knows what nostalgia is. And I know that I will always miss the times we played together whenever I listen to this song. We both miss something that isn't even over
For me, this song is actually a happy one. After fall, whose music was quite sad and underlining the atmosphere of another year ending, the beginning sleep of nature in winter. And now that it is winter, this song starts to play and makes the world covered in snow appear like a magical alternative world that replaces nature while it is sleeping. Sounds kinda cheesy, but it makes me feel this way about the winter season in Stardew Valley. :D
Best one in the game. I waited the whole year just to give Sebastian the mermaid pendant this season because this song reminds me of him, peaceful but sad..beautiful but lonely.
why does this song make me feel so at peace, but so sad at the same time? it's a bitter-sweet poison every time i listen.. Eric Barone, you are a true artist.
From the very first notes, I smile and immediately feel so calm. I don't even know why. It's a kind of cozy feeling, like a warm blanket. You sit at home and look at the snow outside the window, and think that everything will be fine.
Far and away my favorite music in the game. It makes me want to go out and walk through the snow. I live in Georgia though, so we only get really spiteful ice and misery.
Yesterday I decided to build a cabin in a snowy taiga in Minecraft. Today I finished and I decided to put nocturne of ice on a music disc, with a plug-in. When I finally listened to the song it was snowing. I stared into my Minecraft world through the window while listening to this amazing song. A wave of emotion washed over me as I just sat there, listening to this beautiful song. Thank you Eric barone for making a master piece! ❤
I feel like I've woken up in a world where everyone and everything else is asleep. While my farm sleeps, unable to grow any crops outside of my self-sustaining greenhouse, there are still things that need to be done like mining ore, chopping wood. The world slumbers on as I trudge through the still-falling snow, dreaming until the warmth of spring returns...
@@CockLord2059 You can either mine, fish, chop a shit ton of wood, delve deep in the mines, or progress town events, characters relationship. Great stuff. Also you should use it to build many farm buildings. Greenhouse also exist. So do fish ponds which are pretty slick.
I see often in the comments this song can sound sad, yet peaceful, even optimistic. Few years later, I truly love this piece, would go so far as to say it's one of my favorites. I associate this with heartbreak I endured a couple montha ago, maybe that's why it resonates with me-- it was sad, but then I felt peace in time, and I think this song captures that! See, in the beginning, it sounds as if you're in the hollow cavern, empty, absolutely empty-- sort of lonely. Then I like to imagine as you go through the cavern, you sort begin to see something simple and beautiful, like crystals or something-- filling up the cave in which was so hollow. Then near the end, you get out of the cave, and you just feel joy. Anyway, that's one random person interpretation of music, happy listening!
Man. This theme hits me hard... The mix of nostalgia (especially how it reminds me of Minecraft back in the day), the somber melody and the utter calmness it radiates... It's strange how, in its somberness, it feels so warm.
1:39 is my favourite part it sounds so silent, like the sound of falling snow, muting all sound the world is peaceful and still, i walk down the empty street at night and enjoy the snow
I always loved all stardew ost. And me and my husband would play a ton of stardew valley on switch together. When i gave birth, some days after there were a few complications. Me and the baby were together in the hospital for a few days, and all i heard in my head was this soundtrack. It broke me, and it healed me thereafter. This was such a rare moment of complete isolation, 2 days i didn't even look out of the window or leave the room. But there it happened...me and little one bonded, and i fell in love with her while this was at the back of my head. We are fine now, but this soundtrack will always mean so much to me.
I have to say, this song perfectly paints the picture of looking out a window late on Christmas Eve, when it's still calm and silent, before the candy canes and bright colors of Christmas day.
This song makes me sad , like i could have missed out on alot of things ... or maybe this is the song that plays when you die .. theres just something about this song , and the emotional is strong within me ... fuckin hell
There is a sadness in this song that makes me feel lonely inside. Makes me crave a warmth as if I’m in winter. Makes me regret the choices I made in my life, who knows who I would have met or what beautiful experiences I missed because of the path I took. So melancholic yet beautiful, it touches something deep inside. Love this game. Love this music.
By far my favorite track from the entire soundtrack. I feel a variety of emotions when I listen to this song; I feel happy and sad; lonely and accompanied; anxious and calm. Makes me reminisce about the past, too, something I miss, but it also gives me a sense of hope for the future. It’s amazing when a song can make you feel alive and knowing that there’s still beauty in the world, beauty being created by others. It’s beyond inspiring!
The later part of this song (2:20 on) feels so much like Christmas. It makes me think of sitting in a comfortable chair near a warm fireplace, looking out the window as snow falls onto the bare trees outside, with a well-decorated Christmas tree off to the side surrounded by presents. It's truly a peaceful feeling.
ugh, i cant listen to this without breaking out crying. i will never have the same great time i had with the game like i did in 2017. i miss playing it, honestly. but it just brings up so many memories that i wish i could just forget. it would make my life a little easier.

I just realized that all winter songs contain sadness but also, coziness. Staying by the fire with your spouse for the last day before your summer holiday ends and you have to back with your real life. It's not because you have to stop playing it for 9 months straight, the sadness is that your spouse, your pet, and the whole town have to wait for your return. That must be, a very long winter for them all
this song reminds me of the beauty of snow falling, and how graceful and gentle it is, and everything being covered in white which is such a solemn yet breathtaking thing.
I love the winter themes. It truly encapsulates the feeling of having the great wide world to yourself and the wind, because everyone else has hidden away. The silence is freeing.
Nocturne of Ice to me is like a reminder that everything will going to be fine, even though what we currently experience is not great. All we need to do is sit back down, heal yourself, prepare beforehand for the next years, for all those newly crops and works waiting for us in the next year's spring.
This songs reminds me of waking up on the first day of winter after Fall, stepping outside your door, and looking at the snow covered ground just once full of leaves a day ago.
Me too. It has a strong Christmas feelings, too bad it's really short. Anyway, it isn't "barely" talked about. I have visited this video many times, and there are always people who point out that part. You just have to dig down deeper through the comment, or sort it as "recent first".
it was the March of 24' when i started playing this game, due to my academics i had to stop playing games and eventually was disconnected from this game altogether. Today is Christmas, man, so much happened to me this year, it is unthinkable. i really wish i could go back to March :(
These are some of the most amazing melodies i've ever heard, i listen to them nearly everyday. writing music without words to disguise the repetitiveness of the track is very hard but it is nailed in every single melody in this game. Right on the head. All I can say is WOW and thank you. Please make more and put them into the game via updates. And never ever stop producing this amazing quality music.
My father is a very ill person, and he is slowly fading away recently. He really enjoyed playing Stardew Valley, and got really far in the game. When he was in the hospital a few months ago, I decided to pick up the game, and I blazed through an in game year in two days. I remember hearing about his horrible state while hearing this tune. He isn’t the oldest person ever, but his illness is just so bad... It reminds me that life is short. We should appreciate every day, even the ones in the icy cold of winter.
i remember playing this game a lot for a while back in middle school. at the time i felt really isolated from everyone else, and this game was just the perfect escape for those moments. the cold air seeping in the walls of my house and a room that only has an airbed really enhanced my experience.. stardew valley just gave me such a comfy feeling despite my situation at the time
I lost my stardew valley gameplay when my laptop broke.. A few years later, I found myself humming to this. This soundtrack was my favourite, and I always looked forward to winter just so I could listen to this. I love the melody so much.. it brings a lot of memories..
Omg I was literally on tiktok and I heard the song “subwoofer lullaby” from minecraft on tiktok and instantly I was like “THATS THE WINTER MUSIC FROM STARDEW” so I came here to check and it’s literally so similar
This one literally makes me remember so vividly when I played this game non stop two years ago and it was actually snowing and very cold outside and I would be in bed all warm with stardew valley :’) I love that it was winter in the game when it was actually winter. Such special memories.
This music just makes me feel different. The way the the instrument combine to form this magical feel like that of a winter night after a new fallen snow as well as the depressing gray feeling during some of the later days of winter. Truly a musical master piece. I remember I was playing this game for the first time and this was the first thing I hear when I woke up the next day. It sent a wave of emotion all through my body that I can’t describe. The way the magical and the sad dull feel intertwine makes this easily my favorite song out of all of the more wonderful tracks he single handedly made. Eric it truly a one man army in all the right ways.
2:19 You're sitting outside on the porch with your partner, watching the kids play in the snow. You suddenly sit back and realize how good life is, and suddenly realize how quickly time flew by. You feel a whole range of emotions all at once; Nostalgia, Anxiety, and Euphoria. You don't ever want this moment to end, but at the same time you're happy and just want to live in the moment before it's all over. So, you just sit back and watch the snow fall down from the sky, blocking out every thought that comes your way and just...living.
winter is my favorite season in game because of this song, i love autumn so much but winter just feels so peaceful and calm everything feels so slow even the ost reflects the downtime of winter, the song being very slow, it makes me feel nostalgic for something but i don't know what
One of my favorites in the game hands down, so melancholic yet cheerful... something about this one I love so much. Also reminds me of Sebastian and married him during Winter (:
To me this song perfectly makes me remember when it was winter as a Kid, when I lived in the countryside. The sense of emptiness and sadness, yet calm , relaxing and warm, as it's leading you to Christmas. Every time I go to my old town, most Stardew Valley songs are playing, and I'm feeling as a kid again. It's so incredible how music can make you travel in time in an instant.
Without a doubt this encompasses what having snow really is. It's just white, desolate, quiet, stopped... But it's so beautiful at the same time. Seasons are beautiful gifts of nature, imo. We get a few months of pink and red, a few months with just green, then yellow, brown and orange with the ocassional purple, and then... White. Vast white. This season represents a long pause. Some animal hibernate and some trees temporarily die so that they can bloom once again in the future.
this music is just when you're a college student who's all alone on new years, enjoying solitude but then got hit by nostalgia train where you are surrounded by your family and the festiveness of new years, celebrating together. And you remember about those beautiful times, and then it goes back to your lonely new year.
+Deany Kong kinda gives me LOST vibes... the TV show, which is really cool (and weird) because the score in LOST is fucking amazing the nostalgia hit me hard... shit
Despite growing up seeing snow every winter, there's an ethereal magic to it I love. The way snow muffles the sleeping world, how it sort of crunches as you step on it as if to announce your presence, glistening ice coating tree bark and shines like crystal in the sun, and the way falling snow gently settles on your head. The isolating feeling isn't a bitter, nasty thing. No. It's inviting one to pause and just exist. A reminder that you are here, now, and it acknowledges you by letting the world fall silent so you alone can be heard.
winter just hits different in this game. the snow covering everything, the melancholy music that plays when you realize a new year is right around the corner.
Man I haven't even played the game and this song still is one of the greatest compositions I've encountered. Original is amazing, but its even better slowed down on piano.
We wander the candescencent field Barriered at a never ending distance away The forest begging for us to stay put Teeth chattering from the ephemeral zephyr Death surrounding us The sign of the closing year The memories of years past decomposing to fuel the next ones This is winter Let its harsh beauty be appreciated
I started playing stardew literally three days ago, ive already made it to winter, im married to harvey and this song reminds me of the fact even when your lonely, theres still hope for more, and you always have yourself and the things you surround yourself with
I can’t exactly describe it, but this song feels very nostalgic, it’s like I heard it in a fever dream, or in actual world, I can’t remember from where…. Like in some cartoon or movie. Do anyone have the same feeling? Do you know the some similar tune at very beginning??? 0:00
This - and the whole Winter-score, really - brings forth that C418 and the ambient side of Minecraft-feeling. Strong "Subwoofer Lullaby" vibes with this one. Very beautiful
When you wake up, and hear this, go out and found the farm is covered with snows and keep hearing this, man, It makes me goosebump even just think of that.
The beginning of 2:20 really sounds like a song from LOST, and I've seen some people talk about it here too. Does anyone know if there's a song in the show that sounds very similar? Been racking my brain for the last few days about it.
This whole time I was playing Stardew I never listened to the music until one day I walked in my daughter's room and she was playing the game and I don't know what song was playing on the jukebox but it was pretty so I went back onto my first game on the PS4 and I found the jukebox and started playing the music and this is the best one so far
i haven't played a lot of this game, but judging by the soundtrack i think i should play it more. this song fills me with nostalgia and emotion despite never playing it and very few songs have ever made me feel this way. it sounds like a sad song, and for me (again, despite never having heard this until a little while ago) it reminds me of all of my hard ships right now. school is so stressful, so much is expected of me, im losing friends, all the bad stuff. but whenever i think about all of that, i realize that i need to just power through it all. and i know that one day, things WILL get better. this song will remind me of that.
It sounds like ancient lullabies. Like nature is going to sleep, with a mixture of those glass pianos, I guess, that reflect the coldness and winter atmosphere. Sounds just magnificent

I’m surprised that barely anyone is talking about 2:20. I was utterly blown away when I heard it for the first time.
Me too. It has a strong Christmas feelings, too bad it's really short.
Anyway, it isn't "barely" talked about. I have visited this video many times, and there are always people who point out that part.
You just have to dig down deeper through the comment, or sort it as "recent first".
Oh my god that's so pretty
It doesn't even remind me of christmas...it's just the fact that it's like everything I've been searching for?
it's so beautiful
Is beatiful ❤
it was the March of 24' when i started playing this game, due to my academics i had to stop playing games and eventually was disconnected from this game altogether. Today is Christmas, man, so much happened to me this year, it is unthinkable. i really wish i could go back to March :(
Merry Christmas
I know its been a long time since you posted this comment but I wish you and your family the best
I hope everything is well for you and your family. 🌷
I always look forward to Winter in Stardew Valley just because of the music
they even have beautiful-sounding names
i remember playing this game a lot for a while back in middle school. at the time i felt really isolated from everyone else, and this game was just the perfect escape for those moments. the cold air seeping in the walls of my house and a room that only has an airbed really enhanced my experience.. stardew valley just gave me such a comfy feeling despite my situation at the time
I lost my stardew valley gameplay when my laptop broke.. A few years later, I found myself humming to this. This soundtrack was my favourite, and I always looked forward to winter just so I could listen to this. I love the melody so much.. it brings a lot of memories..
This is art,it exactly feels like winter. When everything is muffled and asleep...
0:40 Ever remind these kind of tunes from Minecraft? Cuz i love it.
it reminds me of a mix of minecraft and undertale
Yeah, it’s the piano
Yep
Exactly
Omg I was literally on tiktok and I heard the song “subwoofer lullaby” from minecraft on tiktok and instantly I was like “THATS THE WINTER MUSIC FROM STARDEW” so I came here to check and it’s literally so similar
this gets stuck in my head at times especially when i'm thinking or making a decision it's like my life theme
*”Bundle up, folks. It's going to snow tomorrow!”*
1:40 - those chords... haunting
This one literally makes me remember so vividly when I played this game non stop two years ago and it was actually snowing and very cold outside and I would be in bed all warm with stardew valley :’) I love that it was winter in the game when it was actually winter. Such special memories.
Beginning of music: 🥀
End of music: 🎆
Damn, that is one beautiful track!
The only thing in my life that makes me happy and sad at the same time.
Favorite song on Stardew Valley ♡
The name for this song matches up with the music so well, this is probably my favorite song for all of time. Also playing this at my funeral
This is my game for when I'm going through lows in my depression bar none
The music is a big part of that I love this soundtrack
this music is just when you're a college student who's all alone on new years, enjoying solitude but then got hit by nostalgia train where you are surrounded by your family and the festiveness of new years, celebrating together. And you remember about those beautiful times, and then it goes back to your lonely new year.
这段音乐让我想起小时候,冬季的夜晚里一个人在家等待着父母下班回来时寂寞的心情……
2:20 this sounds so familiar to me. I feel like I've heard this motiff in another game's snow music. I can't quite put my finger on it, though.
+Deany Kong kinda gives me LOST vibes... the TV show, which is really cool (and weird) because the score in LOST is fucking amazing
the nostalgia hit me hard... shit
+Deany Kong Yeah, that portion always reminds me of part of the Pokemon Tower theme in Lavender town.
+DonMysteria I was about say it sounds like LOST.
+JPGC uuups... saw it to late... i absolutely aggree.
+JPGC same xD
This is the definition of beauty. Plus it’s easy to play on xylophone.
2:20 🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻🎻OMG IT IS A MASTERPIECE
This song isn’t lonely or sad, it’s happy solitude! :)
Everything about stardew valley is just wholesome. Eric Barone is the genius that the game industry has been missing.
Heard this song one week ago from the Orchestra at the Festival of Seasons Tour in Paris.... I cannot lie... I cried...
Wow, i already feel nostalgia listening to this. What the heck.
Perfectly encapsulates winter. A bleak fruitless season, with a glimmer of hope at the end of it.
Man I haven't even played the game and this song still is one of the greatest compositions I've encountered. Original is amazing, but its even better slowed down on piano.
This is everything
This is now the most nostalgic song I’ve ever heard
We wander the candescencent field
Barriered at a never ending distance away
The forest begging for us to stay put
Teeth chattering from the ephemeral zephyr
Death surrounding us
The sign of the closing year
The memories of years past decomposing to fuel the next ones
This is winter
Let its harsh beauty be appreciated
Great OST
Though, can't help but feel like old man Zangetsu wants me to learn bankai or something when 0:40 plays
I started playing stardew literally three days ago, ive already made it to winter, im married to harvey and this song reminds me of the fact even when your lonely, theres still hope for more, and you always have yourself and the things you surround yourself with
I feel nostalgic for something that doesn't even exist hearing this and argh the feels are strong in this one
Winter has the best music in the game, and this song is by far the best. I just love how somber it is.
It was when spring started again that I realized how much I loved the winter music... The atmosphere was... Well... Stardew valley....😶
I can’t exactly describe it, but this song feels very nostalgic, it’s like I heard it in a fever dream, or in actual world, I can’t remember from where…. Like in some cartoon or movie. Do anyone have the same feeling? Do you know the some similar tune at very beginning??? 0:00
There is a comment posted a bit before yours mentining anothwr game or soemthing
My favourite among my favourite soundtrack
My favorite track out of the entire soundtrack. Just beautiful.
It starts getting even more beautiful at 2:00. Chills every time
If I had to pick a song to describe me, it would be this one
idk why i love 0:40 so muchhhh
The beginning of 2:20 really sounds like a song from LOST, and I've seen some people talk about it here too. Does anyone know if there's a song in the show that sounds very similar? Been racking my brain for the last few days about it.
so true
This melody is so sad, I really remember my life and lost time
me too ;-;
The music in the back is stardew valley’s winter track “nocturne of ice”
Extra points for not being copyrighted
This whole time I was playing Stardew I never listened to the music until one day I walked in my daughter's room and she was playing the game and I don't know what song was playing on the jukebox but it was pretty so I went back onto my first game on the PS4 and I found the jukebox and started playing the music and this is the best one so far
Isn't it cool so many people found this song magical?❄️🌳🏜️🪴 Like we are all Stardew Valley hommies😌 It also gives vibes of Undertale game!
I love all the winter songs so much, they are sad, peaceful, and happy all at once.
i haven't played a lot of this game, but judging by the soundtrack i think i should play it more. this song fills me with nostalgia and emotion despite never playing it and very few songs have ever made me feel this way.
it sounds like a sad song, and for me (again, despite never having heard this until a little while ago) it reminds me of all of my hard ships right now. school is so stressful, so much is expected of me, im losing friends, all the bad stuff. but whenever i think about all of that, i realize that i need to just power through it all. and i know that one day, things WILL get better. this song will remind me of that.
My favorite OST from this game and one of my favorites of all time. I like putting this track on and just reflect on life....
This playing when your character has a kid is just too precious.
2:20 something about this part right here
It sounds sort of "Christmas-y" I think. Love it.
Yeah, I love that part.
2:20 the most beautiful part of this song
I can really feel winter and christmas vibe
I love it
It sounds like ancient lullabies. Like nature is going to sleep, with a mixture of those glass pianos, I guess, that reflect the coldness and winter atmosphere. Sounds just magnificent
