The main reason: the old retro games of the 1970's and 1980's 😺👍🕹️.

Commodore 64 and Amiga 500,

Welcome to the channel. I hope you enjoy your stay here. While I never even seen a C64 in person, only saw a C128 and even played a game on it once, I did used to own an Amiga and had access to other computers back in the 80s. This channel is obviously heavy on the Atari ST content, but I might from time to time have other systems too. The same way I did with my main RUclips channel before I set all my 100s of retro videos hidden when I created this new channel.

Fair review that. The gfx are superb too.. no room to manoeuvre that huge submarine! Could have been a great game this…
Thank you. Yes it's painful how it could have been SO much better with just a couple of changes.
The graphics are really nice to me and it looks like there was even scaling being done in the first part of the game before the side scrolling shooter section. For the time it looks impressive for any system IMO. That being said having to control such a slow moving object in a shooter, avoiding objects in a relatively small area while the screen is aggressively scrolling would be frustrating. It probably would make me not want to play after a fairly short amount of time. It’s interesting to look at and hear as I’ve never seen this version before. Thanks for sharing and awesome job as always!
The scaling was really well done. I didn't remember that and it surprised me.

Level 2 reminds me of the early 8 bit game Sea Dragon.
That looks interesting. It reminds me of the much later game In The Hunt.
It’s weird that you effectively can’t reverse, I wonder if that was intended to be some ‘realistic submarine control’ shoved into a horizontal shoot em up genre that couldn’t possibly absorb it. (Note to self: check whether submarines can reverse). I’ve never played this one and it’s not too surprising that it…….sunk without trace 😐 (up there with Jack Nicholson)
Submarines can reverse just fine, I don't remember about before WW2, but definitely could from WW2 onwards.
It was a weird decision to do this with the controls in this game, but as you said perhaps some idea of "realism" gone wrong.
