This story makes me sad because she only had 18 hours left on this 40 day trip and we have no clue what happened
Literally 99.98% complete.
She was so close :(
Also it was her birthday few days later
@Niko No, we can't. Was she a Woman? Really? Omg.
The plane hit the ocean. Case closed.
Technically Michael Jordan did disappear once and was found in a different dimension where Buggs bunny played basketball

@@kaylanierivera1114 right. especially now thag the government has told the truth about aliens being real, thats a great possibility thats what happened, either that, the spy thing, or the coconut crab thing.
I think theory 2 is what most likely happened. Ameilia was an experienced pilot who knew what to do under pressure. I think she landed on the island and eventually died with Noonan due to a lack of supplies. Then, they were eaten by crabs.
Crabs yes but good pilot no. She crashes often. Lands at wrong place often. Makes bad decisions mostly. Like marrying Putnam. She was right. He ended up killing her by pushing her into a flight without paul Mantz and harry manning. Pilot and radio man.
@@neatstuff8200 you have to remember this was the 1930s? Planes were much less reliable and equipment much less advanced than it is today. In 2015 an entire commercial airliner vanished from the face of the earth, it’s not unlikely that she had a major malfunction over water and couldn’t contact anybody to help her. You can’t tarnish her legacy because of what most likely was a mechanical failure mid flight.
but planes flew over that island a day later after her crash and saw nothing
@@neatstuff8200 Right on. The goal was, and still, to convince the public she was better than Lindbergh. Not even close. JMO
Both Noonan and Earhart didn’t know Morse Code or CW as it’s know and Earhart had poor knowledge of there Radio equipment that is why they disappeared sadly.

Yes it’s infuriating
Fun Fact: A man named Dr. Robert Ballard, the same man who founded the wreck of Titanic in 1985, is searching for Earhart’s plane.
There's a difference between a metal behemoth of a ship that they knew what happened to and an extremely light and small plane where they don't where in the world it even is close to.
@@froggytimmy8643 well tbf the titanic was gonna be somewhere in the atlantic ocean and wasn't all that close to where it sank AND split in two, but amelia's plane(if it crashed in the ocean) shouldn't have been all that far from the last place they reported, near the island.
@@alibrooks7495 I'm saying that if that were true, the plane would be so light, it literally wouldn't exist anymore. It would have been pulled to pieces in the ocean, the bodies would have rotted, and any remaining tiny pieces of the plane would be sent around the world by the currents.

The guy who tossed the bones was, like, almost criminally incompetent. Even if they weren't Amelia Earhart or Fred Noonan's bones, they were still human remains. Who just casually tosses out unidentified human remains like, "Well, it's not someone famous, so who cares?"

i mean, yeah, he'd never really done bone identifying before and it was very new.

@@skygardener7849 yea but her being a spy doesn’t make sense why would she put herself in the spotlight. If a spy started to get really well known I have a feeling they’d not want her as a spy anymore. Fun story, maybe nsfw- Some years ago while driving down a very long road on the way to the beach, my bladder was ready to burst and I couldn't hold it in any longer. We passed by an old abandoned church and it was the only place I could pee. I went behind it and did my business. When I looked up I read a sign 'This stone was placed in the memory of Amelia Earheart' and it had an image of a plane and her birth and death. I looked down at my puddle and stared in horror. It was square in the middle of the site. I ran back to the car and we pulled off. I later learned that that church was a historical site. I got home and searched her up and was mortified. Now every time I read her name, I think about that fateful day where desperate times called for desperate measures.
Well try not to beat yourself up you had no way of knowing, plus I know from experience how an extremely full bladder can change the way someone thinks.

True, but I'm making a more specific point: in science (including criminology, or even ufology and cryptozoology), it's a breach of ethics to destroy or omit either your raw data or the evidence you tested. For example, in this case, the bones on Nikumaroro.
@@TheSaneHatter True. However..when you want to cover something up, ethics go out the window. So..who knows.
hit the nose on the head? what?
I think it's possible that Earhart and Noonan crashed in the ocean and while the plane was sinking that's when those messages the girl found were heard, like they were stuck inside and couldn't get out. Noonan obviously never made it off the plane either dying on impact or after the crash. However, Earhart was able to figure a way off the plane and swam to that nearby island where she built that fire and where the Sekstant was found. The studies of the bones that were discovered later showed that they could have belonged to a taller than average woman and Earhart WAS TALLER THAN AVERAGE, and that makes it definitely possible that the bit of shoe sole was hers as well. I mean, I'm about 5'8 ish and my feet are about 9 1/2 - 10 inches in size. Regardless, she attempted to survive as long as she could, but without a source for food and probably sustaining many injuries, it makes sense that she wouldn't have lasted more than a week if she could find water. If no water was to be found then that would cut it down to a few days. Especially given the brute force the elements would have had on her. In the end, she died of starvation and her body wad eaten by the coconut crabs, explaining why only 12 of the bones remained. It's not unsolved, people just like the air of mystery that hangs about it. It's also extremely easy to fly over your destination, especially back then with less advanced navigation. There are dozens of cases of pilots going missing due to getting caught in jet streams and losing their navigation. Earhart is no different considering the radio message told us that she was way higher than she was supposed to be.
In conclusion, the only unsolved bit is what happened to the rest of the plane, and the absence of Noonan's body. Either way.
Thanks for listening to my TED talk lol.
The way these episodes go from creepy mysteries to downright comedy in seconds is why I love them.

I have a lot of questions for the guy who analyzed the bones then threw them away. Even if they’re not Amelia or Noonan, they’re someone.
While I like the idea of the picture of Earhart and Noonan on the island what irks me so much is Hoodless who disposed of the bones. Even if they weren't Amelia's it's obvious someone was on that island and something or someone died there and the bones should have been sent in for diagnostics. Even if the technology wasn't up to snuff they could have kept the evidence preserved. Like I said even if it's not Amelia that's someone's body if not a larger animal

@@vflstar yeah, that's what I found too, but I'm fairly certain that they were just articles on the theories of her getting marooned on the island, nothing is confirmed.
The images of bones are the ones that were mentioned in this video, (which could possibly have been Amelia's but obviously we will never know for sure), and I have no idea where you found photos of her wrecked airplane from.
I personally believe that she did in fact get stuck on the island (since she was very skilled at landing planes in dangerous scenarios), but she would've ended up starving to death there. But obviously there is still no definitive proof, just theories, so we will never know for sure.

I think I remember a documentary that I saw at school that made a theory of Amelia Earhart and her copilot being on an island of Japan. They could have been held prisoner there. Experts used a photo of Amelia to compare with a photo taken in Japan with a woman similar looking to Amelia.
My great grandmother always told me stories about the lady who was rescuide by my grandfather. She told me that he was out fishing when an airplane crashed into the ocean. He rowed closer and was able to help a young woman out of the plane. She kept saying "we have to help him" but my grandfather didn't see anyone else on the plane as it sank into the ocean. The lady died 3 days later because of her injuries. My grandmother was of Japanese desendance she lived in the Marshall island so, its possible I don't know.

An interesting aspect of communications with the flight is that Earhart never acknowledged any of the voice transmissions directed toward her airplane during that fateful flight. Ric Gillespie (TIGHAR) believes this was because the receiving antenna was ripped off of the plane's belly during the high-weight takeoff from Lae. The transmitting antenna atop the airplane was fine, so Earhart's transmissions were heard OK. Radio navigation was essential to ensure Howland could be found, so Earhart asked Itasca to transmit a beacon on 7500 kHz which she could track using the Electra's DF loop antenna atop the cockpit. She reported reception of the 7500 transmission, but the loop gave no null so she could not determine a bearing to Itasca. In fact, the problem was that the DF loop was only designed to be directional below 1500 kHz, and Amelia's misunderstanding of this fact was likely what led to her loss. Interestingly, she had tested the DF loop with HF transmissions at Lae, the test of course failed, but she departed anyway.
She may well have thought, I will have many opportunities to test the DF loop during this flight by taking bearings on commercial broadcast stations and aeronautical beacons, and I can always turn back if it doesn't work. But it would have worked, because those stations would have been under the loop's 1500 kHz limit. She did not realize the flaw in her 7500 kHz plan.
There was a missed opportunity for success at Howland. Even with the loss of her main receiving antenna, she was able to receive the 7500 beacon when her receiver's antenna selector was in the "loop" position. The Itasca did not have voice transmission capability on 7500, but had Earhart left the antenna switch in the loop position when she switched back to 3105, she would have received Itasca's voice transmission on 3105. The Coast Guard had their own plan, which Amelia knew nothing of, to transmit the homing beacon on 333 kHz. If they had 2-way communication with Earhart, they could have tried this plan and she likely would have landed safely on Howland.
Rip my watcher guys. Forever in our hearts
Is it just me or does all the music they add make it 5000000 times creepier 😧😵
Partnered with creepy narrative voice too.
The music that plays during the theories is kinda catchy tbh
Love your name
I didn’t think about that until just now

I secretly want them to move the mannequin towards Shane every episode😂😂
Manasi Khade they should do this and like watch the viewers freak out over why that happens
Manasi Khade me too its creepy
Yes m8!
And then one episode Shane isn't there. And neither is the mannequin.
I literally cannot see the mannequin, where behind Shane is it?
If y’all didn’t make your funny comments in the intervals of these videos I would not be able to sleep at night.
Same XD
@@thetwilightgamer but I think they should stop making funny comments,it actually kills the seriousness
@@amalj7724 thats the whole point
Honestly Shane's comments always brings it down to a less anxiety-driven level for me
The banter is supposed to be funny?
As somebody who has parents who are both aviators, I hear this story a lot. It's still a sad story to think about though. 😔
why were we taught in school that she disappeared in the bermuda triangle?? we had like a whole history lesson on just this incident. what's even the point of that??? that seems real SUS to me...
I never did. Which country teaches such crap?

When I did a project on this we had a week and did our own research to come up with our own theories, it was dope

They find a sole of a shoe the same brand she’s been pictured wearing but it’s a size 9 so couldn’t be hers...what size shoe was the male navigator who was with her in the plane? 9?
his existence just disappeared in their minds
@@DTMQ clearly, no one seems to be looking for him...seems like that could easily be his shoe.
It's also perfectly within the realm of possibility that she did actually wear size 9's. I'm within her estimated height range and wear size 9 shoes. If you look at height to shoe size averages for women, it's completely plausible that size 9s would have fit her. Even if her feet were smaller, she could have been wearing larger shoes (as others have pointed out) to wear more layers of socks and insulate herself better.
@@carolinemcguire6224 great point! They didn’t actually say that wasn’t her size, they just assumed it wasn’t. Surely that’s quite easy to check? Her friends/family would probs have vaguely known her shoe size
Im a girl shorter than Amelia, and I have size 9 shoes, I'd say with a few layers of socks or a thick pair of socks it's very possible that the shoe was hers.
the fact that they mentioned star trek voyager... such legends need to be rewarded.
Ryan pronouncing Newfoundland like that made me giggle
Theory:
Just wanted to mention something that has become apparent to me after watching this episode many times. The shoe that was found and deemed not Amelia’s due to the fact that it was a too big for her I believe was overlooked. It’s very common for legs and feet to swell while travelling, especially by plane. I believe it’s very likely it was her shoe, and because of said swelling she may have worn larger shoes.
And thick socks because of the cold.
Besides, I wear 1.5 sizes bigger because I’m a waitress and walk a lot.
If she was around 5'8 or 5'9 a size 9 in mens wouldn't be over the top huge. Big, sure, but maybe she had big feet? Add on thick socks, a roomier shoe to make up for having to wear them for long stretches, and the slight swelling factor.
Yes, that's what I was thinking! Also, I don't see how size 9s are that implausible. I'm only 5'6 and I wear size 8 shoes.
What about Noonan? If they were planning on travelling together then they probably bought equipment and stuff together, so from the same brand. Size 9 for a man is much more likely?

Probably one of my favorite cases on the show so far. Regardless of what happened to Amelia & Norman, at least they both died doing what they loved & were experts in their field & recognized for it, to the point Amelia is still considered a household name a near century later.
ur telling me ryan is TALL???? my whole perspective is so thrown off I can’t handle this
So glad I’m not the only one! This whole time I’ve thought he was a bit taller than me (I’m Asian so I’m shorter than most at 5’2.5) at maybe like 5’5-6 but DANG 5’10?! I was baffled to say the least

people are ignoring the fact that in the radio call amelia earhart said "The water is knee high"
i think the plane crashed and begain sinking so that they were trapped in a airpocket in the plane, and therefore she said the water was knee high
I think she was talking to noonan to let her out of the plane because she was using the radio inside.
That's the radio call heard by that girl, not a legit one.
or the plane crashed in the water, close to the island. They got to the island and the plane sunk, but then low tide made the plane visible for a short period of time, making the radio usable until high tide. A few hours later and its was low tide again and they went back. Repeat the cycle till they ran out of coconut water and died, then the crabs eat their bodies and some idiot throws out the bones.
"I love the thought of someone getting eaten by crabs" Ryan, run 💀
I'm from the Marshall Islands, and my Grandpa would tell me about Amelia Earhart and her plane. He was in his teens when he encountered Earhart being held by the Japanese. He didn't know her name then, but the one thing that intrigued him about her was her height. She towered over the Japanese and Marshallese.
'She stood with the men like she was their equal. She didn't slouch one bit. She lacked femininity. If not for her chest, I would have assumed she was a man. I didn't know who she was, but I did know that she must have been something to not be an average woman.'
He said, later on, he and a couple of his friends were interviewed extensively in the 70s by an American film crew. Sadly, they were never able to find Earhart or Noonan. That photo of Earhart at the pier was taken in Jaluit Atoll, where my Grandpa is originally from.
My Grandpa would brag about being one of the only people who laid eyes on Earhart.
The photo was allegedly taken before she went missing, though. I’m not trying to be rude, but it does seem odd.
What if she got stuck in another dimension where she’s either forever flying or repeatedly trying to land on the island she was supposed to but it’s just a loop
Sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone.
Lmao she got hit with Gold Experience Requiem
that stresses me out.
@shane madej
Ada Sweet like just before she crashes and dies it starts over again
Shane's probably going to come to a conclusion and say; "it was probably the wind"
Gabe Brown one of these days a ghost will slap him and he will blame it on the wind
i just think it’s strange that everyone involved in the case didn’t help as much as they could’ve/didn’t do their job correctly
it makes me think that maybe there were more people involved
If you pronounced Newfoundland like that in front of someone from there. They’d most likely be pissed lol
You guys should do a series of 'True Crime Solved'. As much as I like learning about the unknown of our world, I also like understanding why people do what they do. It would finally give Shane some justice as well.

legend says she’s still flying upwards
A few years ago I gave a presentation at my community college and before it was my turn, I saw one that had claimed they’d figured out what happened to Amelia and towards the end when they were taking questions, someone from the audience started refuting their analysis and an all out debate broke out in the room. It was wild.
Was that absolutely terrifying mannequin in the background really necessary?

It's not related to the case, really, but as a child, Ameila Earhart was more than a hero to me. She was so important to me, eerily so tbh. I'd always find myself drawn to her and there were times she'd find me, find my dreams. Always found it so odd but never scary really.. more, oddly, comforting.
lol I really understand what Shane said about Ryan's cases, that half of them aren't solved because someone who was at the time supposed to be investigating the crime/mystery was just like, 'too much work, burn it!' seems like there are a lot of holes in gaps in the information half the time and leads not properly followed up.
even if he didn't save the bones cause he saw no future purpose, it's still kind of fucked that he threw them out instead of maybe figuring out who's bones they are
