- Today we have a legendary guitar, a beautiful pre-war Martin D-45 from 1941 - and to take things even further, this rare guitar was also purchased, owned, and loved by western swing superstar Bob Wills throughout his life. This amazing piece of history is in our shop between collections, and we feel so lucky to have it for a brief moment that we just had to share it with you all. We start things off with Tyler Geske, Jason Verlinde (Fretboard Journal) and Trevor talking about the guitar before handing it off to Nick Mardon for a demo so you can hear a sliver of how incredible this guitar is.
Can’t afford the bling, so I got a D35 some years back. Sounds almost as sweet, and I can still eat.
The camera angles and closeups give a detailed look at the very tightly-grained Adirondack top, and stunning Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. I can hear the articulation and resonance even with RUclips's audio compression. This is truly a special example of the craftsmanship and materials of the era.
Stories like this, remind me WHY I love guitar. I started playing in 1982..... music will take you away! Thanks for sharing this epic moment!!🎶🎵🎶
It would be nice to hear some Texas Swing rhythms, like Bob would have played back in the day!
Great guitar! It’s probably in such great shape because Bob was a fiddle player… Thanks for sharing!
Wow! Beautiful D-45 for sure!
Beautiful demo and amazing guitar. In case anyone doesn’t know, Martin makes current guitars that play and sound just as good at 1% the price.
I have a 2001 D-45 and it has all the projection of the D series guitars. I was brought up on my dad’s Martin D-18 and it also has a wonderful tone. I is not passed through the family as a great guitar must be an inspiration for generations to take up the instrument. I truly miss that ‘45 but love the D-1 from 1931 Authentic made in 2016 and my 1969 D-35 Brazilian. Martin still makes great guitars. I live in Korea but last fall visited the factory in Nazareth. Here I South Korea the professional flat top players prefer the Martins of any age. They are legendary here and I go up to Seoul from time to time to see what new Martin has come into the shop near ItEeWon. They started importing Martin guitars back in the 80s. I always go back to Martins! At 82 I still play at weddings and gatherings throughout Korea. Will continue till I die!
I'm just sooooo jealous. I'd give anything to play that guitar. I've never been able to play a pre war martin but I'm sure they're something special. Acoustic guitars are just about the most beautiful thing on the planet
You had me at the picture. Old MARTIN'S ARE BEAUTIFUL TREASURES.
Obviously a great guitar...yet what I appreciated most is the music selection and playing for the demo...I think that's the best guitar demo I've ever heard...it really showed the quality of the guitar better than any demo in my experience! Well done!
An exquisite instrument, a great video that is well thought out and well produced. Thanks ECG.
Loved that little bit of "Deep River Blues Doc Watson" 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍 Thank you 👍
Man, I would sure love to hear someone like JP Cormier take this beauty for a stretch. That man has a way of bringing out the best tones from any acoustic guitar. I know there are plenty of other virtuoso's, but JP is currently among my favorites.
Jason Verlinde, the best, awesome for you guys to have him in your video.
With all due respect, at
Great shop, was there today and they have quite the collection!
Wow! Great provenance, beauty, and tone!
INCREDIBLE! I can not conjure the words to express my awe! WOW! does that do it?
Mate! The production of your videos is unreal. 👌
