As a previous MK7 GTI owner to now owning A MK8 R, even stock this car is a blast, and the best choice car wise I've made. I spent like 3-5k on my gti before I traded it in, and it was a blast. I feel the same 3-5k put into this R would be absolutely ridiculous. To the people thinking about getting an mk8 R just do it.
You’ve become one of my favorite RUclipsrs, clear, concise, transparent, leaves absolutely no stone unturned. Recently came from infinitis and Honda so your videos have made me like euros more. I now own a 09 b8 a4 avant 2.0t.
Also love the attention to detail with the camera and mics you use, the sound on this is insane. Started watching it in 1080 switched to 2160 and wow. The sound and visuals are mint

I've got the 2024 Golf 8 R Abt Performance and I drove at the Autobahn, Switserland, Côte d'Azur France this year. One of the best cars I had. Performance, handling and breaks are awesome. Infotainment is ok but I call it caracter of the car.😁
Man, I'm now sure what they did from the gen3 to the gen4 ea888 but it sounds so much better! The mk7 doesn't sounds great with most turbo backs but this soon deep and has a lot of character.
Damn I can really relate to this one. I have a 22 MK8R as well, same color. I also have the 034 lowering springs/dogbone, the Miltek downpipe but with a stock catback. I have a unitronic carbon intake, intercooler, chargepipes paired up with the full Stage 2 Ecu and TCU tune (i got a plug it aint released yet). And honestly it is such a fun car. A true rocketship on the backroads (difference between a simple stage 1 and full stage 2 is huge ahah). I think you were spot on with your upgrades. IMO for the price, the dogbone mount is a must because with a tune you can feel the engine moving when you let off the gas. Anyways, sick car bud!
Mk8 gti owner intake exhaust 034tune lowering springs and rear seat bar wheels 200 tread wear tires shit is so solid so much grip for fwd handles soo good
call me crazy but i think you should do a build on a C7-7.5 S6. Twin turbo v8 and it has hella support from 034 and unitronic and what not. Definitely an underrated beast
Great video. No hate…like what you like. Looks like a great little ride. Waiting for the 8.5R to come to my dealer then simply change out the brake pads, install sway bar, intake, wheels and tires.
What kind of camera you are using for those chase shots? Quality is fantastic. Always loved GTI's, but tuned R's are different kind of animal, launches and grip is just awesome.
I'll be totally honest I have an old stock Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0L Turbo and It can turn corners at some speed. On the streets it's more than enough. If you like to take your car to the track and want some good lap times then yes maybe spending a lot of money is really worth it. If my old 2004 Golf GTI front wheel drive can cope with fast concerning than I'm sure a stock Mk8 Golf R can. 👍
Yo Cameron , I also live in Phoenix with a MK7 Golf R. How the Hell did you get no slow drivers in the way at Canyon Lake?? I always get screwed by NPC’s. Great content, also cool your brother gets to Tag along.
While the golf R looks fun and all, other people have claimed that it’s boring, especially in the automatic compared to the Focus RS and at least all the other Competitors
had a mk7 golf r stage 1.... sold it cause i needed a truck for a few years.... Next car in 4 yrs is going to be a Cayman or Golf R again... Cayman scares me on $$ to keep maintained..R would get stage 2 plus mods...What should i do?

Wow it looks so damn flat in those corners. My MK7 was nothing like this. But this MK8 infotainment and issues within have kept me from buying one. The MK 8.5 with that large new screen, and the buttons on the steering wheel are less intrusive now, make it really really attractive. I'm torn between the 8.5 and a 2025 CTR. Considering I live in South Florida, with no snow and roads as smooth as silk, with no potholes, is where the CTR would shine because its stiffer ride wouldn't be an issue. It's like the whole city is smooth as a track. Great place to have a driver's car. But I do love, absolutely love the new 8.5 interior, and luxury / amenities that the type R is missing. I don't think I'll be unhappy with either, but still a tough choice.
$53k is the average selling price of these MK8 R's after the ridiculous dealer markup :( There is one on Autotempest brand new for $65K. WHAT THE HELL. I had an MK7 R years ago and enjoyed it but the dealer price gouging pushed me to another brand/car when I was shopping for a new ride late last year.

As a current MK8R owner, who previously owned an '18 SS 1LE.. I'd go back immediately if I could. Just don't like the front end changes they made to the 19+ Camaros :( can't find an unmolested, low mileage '18.
@@culley65 just got me a 23 1LE. Thing is crazy. Can’t even come close to out doing the potential car has. Absolute slept on car. Don’t have to do anything to them. Handle great sound great. Maybe a tad bit more power.

My mk8 r is faster straight line(probably cause the dsg in the r and manual in my 1le, the auto 1le’s are nasty though), I think it’d be close in corners with tires as good as the supercar 3’s on the r but these stock r tires aren’t great
Save your money by not buying: the lowest quality wheels ever made, a dogbone mount insert, springs and front casters, and that exhaust. Spend the money on the AWE exhaust and a good quality coilover.
well, you can’t modify the chassis, aerodynamics, or center of gravity of the car. All your modifications are a waste of money. Get yourself a car which is perfectly engineered and manufactured right from the factory
I’d love to do all this to mine but my 20th anniversary R has too many squeaks and buzzing and rattles in the interior, really kills the vibe, I may sell it
You should definitely make a video ranking / comparing all of the cars you have owned. I think a lot of people would really enjoy it 🤙

They haven’t because in America you may as well order a base Carrera.

Do you have access to a dragy? It would be interesting to see what the R would run in 1/4 mile. Great video and scenery!
I do, but i only show 0-60 in the mod episodes earlier in the series
You should build a Honda Civic Type R 17-21 next!
Isnt the 8v RS3 (its way older yes) a better platform and generally a better car to buy and mod out? Whats your verdict since you did an RS3 vid?
Engine wise, sure. The 8V RS3 doesn't have the torque vectoring rear differential that the Mk8 R has. Mk8 is a much better handling car.
Let’s see an STI hatchback like a 2014

Awesome video Cam! Are you done with the golf r? If so why no intercooler? Just debating on what i should get before i get a stage 1 tune. Thanks!
Stock intercoolers are fairly efficient so its not as limiting as it was on the Mk7.. PLUS the install is a PAIN on this car.. chose my battles
