Never understood why people find the first half boring, especially if they claim to love character driven narratives instead of "stuff happening" I had a 5 page essay written out but the comments also brought this up but I'm glad you didn't feel like it was a waste of time though I heavily judge those who drop the show because of the first half, if you see the whole thing and say oh that actually mattered and was vital, that means the show was always good and you were the one that almost gave up on a gem

Bruh that's not how stuff works. Everything needs a HOOK. But this show just relied on the shock factor. Story driven writing means MEANINGFUL DIALOGUE REGARDING THE STORY, not Nonsensical bs. Plus tell me this, someone who got annoyed from nothing happening in the first half, will he be able to fully enjoy the show? The first half is bad because it's too long with no hook. If they shorten it and added sprinkles of the actual story, NOBODY WOULD COMPLAIN

Or if after episode 1 of AOT we just saw Eren trying to get bread with the one page information every episode. The "Hook" doesn't need to be your main plot but it does need to be something that engages the audience.

It’s because without doing research of Steins Gate plot it does seem like it’s a basic slice of life anime from the first three episodes, which isn’t a problem as SOL animes have fans but a lot of people are used to the very quick and draws your attention first episode action animes, Steins Gate isn’t that, it may have 24 episodes each show but the story itself is lengthy with a complex situation, it actually takes watching the entire shows to understand the full story and feel for it, after watching 0 the good ending hit so much harder when you learn all the shit Okabe had to do just to get that possibility of an outcome and that the bad ending had already happened

Pretty weak argument since the Slice of Life stuff features two functions: establishing a sense of normality within the original timeline, and establish a group of enjoyable characters that have problems that serve the plot. Steins gate is peak
Steins gate is not your generic high staked time travel show where you see whole revolution going on
      Its more humanly
Time travel is just a plot device to make a plot good its not the main thing which makes a show memorable
The memorable parts are the humanly parts of things
And thats what steins gate knows
It is unique as it has a mix of human emotions slice of life and time travel
It shows how each character which is a misfit in the anime have desires and things they want to achieve but they want a short cut for it which is for them time travel
Steins gate shows such characters mistakes desires achievements and sacrifice in a time travel plot
Thats what makes steins gate so high rated
If someone doesnt understand steins gate or hates it its their opinion and not their thing
      Its simple as that
Biggest example we can take is of Berserk
In berserk the main thing which makes it memorable is not its worldbuilding fights
But GUTS and all the human emotions themes

I kinda feel with how dark it gets the contrast between the latter half of steins gate and the story of steins gate 0 make you just want to value those happy early peaceful “slow” times. Hououin Kyouma and his lab members(Okabe and his buddies), Kurisu’s closet nerdiness and banter with Okabe, Ruka getting dragged out of his shell around okabe, Daru just being a menace, Farsi’ constant positivity, Suzuha’s childish curiosity and wonder, getting to know these characters so well it just hurts to see things fall apart. I genuinely love this series. Rewatching the early parts gives a whole new level of appreciation with what’s coming and the inevitability of the later episodes just kinda meshes well with the theme of the inevitability of fate

In terms of anime, I much prefer Steins;Gate 0 to Steins;Gate. Even if the original anime is significantly better-directed, S;G 0's anime feels so much more rewarding to get through. Steins;Gate's anime is a conventional adaptation. It's just a worse version of the VN, making various terrible changes to the story. It completely destroys Braun's character, cuts the story's connections to the other SciADV entries, deletes an entire character out the story, and even changes 1 set of mechanics in a way that contradicts the VN (leading to a plot hole in S;G 0). The worst part is that the anime changes the entire antagonist from the Committee of 300 to SERN (who are beneath the Committee in the VN). Steins;Gate's anime is singlehandedly the reason why most people don't even know it's just the second part of a longer story.
But Steins;Gate 0's anime is a sequel to the Steins;Gate 0 VN. It's such a creative way to approach a story that would have otherwise been extremely difficult to adapt. And it fits so perfectly with S;G 0's central theme of the "messenger". It's all in all a massive love letter to any long-time fan of the series, answering so many questions fans had dating all the way back to the release of Arc-Light in 2010. I love how they also approached it in a way that even despite all that, it could still be watched by Steins;Gate anime onlies. You kinda miss the whole point of S;G 0 that way though.

The care given to these characters, Okabe the most, in both writing an animation just makes them so likable and human. There are several parts where Okabe's feelings and insecurities are seen but not said, on his facem in his pauses. Anime often tells us characters thoughts outright but SG takes its time to tell us visually as well. I can see why some people find the first few episodes slow and hard to get into but I love them as much as I love the rest of it. Then you watch 23 b ,then 0, then go back to the original. Masterpiece at its finest. One of the most emotional shows with one of the greatest character casts ever. 10/10

And this is connected to the fact that, the way they use time travel in the series is based on real theory and, potentially, is a way that we can use to time travel perhaps in the future. I suggest you to read the Novel of Steins gate 0, or read the manga and watch the anime, because, to me, they adapt bad the two main Route.

I love Steins;Gate. It's probably the only anime I have actually watched more than twice, and quite often I'll take a week off work with grand ideas of how I will spend my time, and end up binge watching by about Tuesday. It is slow to begin with, the brightness of the city scenes just make it feel like a stupidly too hot to do anything, lazy summer, and so the pacing fits well with it imho. I love it. But here's the kicker, I cannot stand the original Japanese voice acting. Sorry but it's so shouty and squeaky and just weird. The English voice actors though are superb and I fell in love with Mayuri as the "little sister" because she was so sweet. I loved their interactions in those first few episodes, even though not much made sense, and I think that was because I was listening to the English version. Three anime I think work better with the English VA's are this, Black Lagoon (sorry but Revy swearing needs to be in English) and Black Butler... but Sebastian is voice by the same actor who voices Okabe so that's why. I like his voice, ok?

I read the visual novel several years after watching both S;G and S;G 0. The pacing for the exposition and the detail in the VN are better appreciated, especially for the sci-fi theory behind it all. There are also some routes that weren't adapted into the anime so anime-watchers can enjoy some new material if they read it after.
If you finished this and are open to more, I'd recommend follow up with Steins;Gate 0 while it's still fresh in your memory.

Steins Gate has been my favorite anime for the bigger part of 5 years after I first watched it, and episode 22 one of my favorite pieces of fiction ever because it was the only one that has made me feel every emotion humanly possible in just the short span of 20-ish minutes and not a single other one could reproduce that feeling. On top of that, the show literally gave every single character their sweet time to shine, despite not having to, considering it's a time travel story where only 1 character remembers all the timelines.
Here's a hot take: The first half of the show is just as good as the second, and it HAS to be slow paced to work. Plus, there's so much stuff going on already that every time I hear someone say "it's boring" or "nothing's happening" i just lose more and more faith in humanity; AND it's already so much fun with the banter between the characters. Without it, the second half wouldn't even hit half as hard as it does now, people just don't appreciate good buildup anymore, I suppose...
It got dethroned from its place at the top earlier this year after I already had given up on finding anything that could possibly do it by the "Aria" series, because after all this time I have finally found an episode that managed to recreate the feeling I had with SG's episode 22, and not only one but the entire final stretch of Aria the Origination from episode 9 onwards was like this.

As an actual physicist, it kinda makes me laugh seeing the comments section. There is no "real theory" or "correct" time travel simply because it doesn't exist yet. There is only "most popular" or "Most likely" or "most cohesive" as what would make the most sense based on philosophy and our current understanding of how time works.
There are two main schools of time travel theory, the singular timeline vs multiverse/parallel universes. A lot of really good stories make use of the first one (terminators 1, 2, and 3, Back to the Future, and for weebs out there Mirai Nikki) But recently the multiple universe stories are getting more and more popular cuz of the MCU. Both theories are correct in the sense that we cannot disprove one of them yet. Funny enough, Steins Gate uses both with the inclusion of the Alpha Line and maybe that's why this story is unique within the time travel stories.

    • @username-ql8ox
      @username-ql8ox Год назад

The bad of both: the multiverse theory sucks as you can't go back to your own past, only at another timeline's past aka not yours.
The singular timeline can't answer the paradox of "what if I go back in time and kill my grandpa"
Personally I believe the singular timeline theory. And as for the paradox, i think paradoxes simply don't happen or exist (like how 0/0 can be thought about but not executed and yet math still works kinda thing)

I prefer the first half to the second. The undoing the d-mails episodes (e.g. Moeka, Suzuha, Faris, Rukako) were relatively weaker (not saying they were bad). This was probably because these episodes were straightforward and felt more like a chore that Okabe had to do (not a bad thing). I think the reason these episodes were stronger on an initial watch was because they answered many important questions. However, this advantage isn't there during later rewatches, so they become somewhat inferior to the episodes in the first half where more details are picked up the second time. The beginning is what hooked me into steins;gate in the first place. It's what sold me on the characters and the mysterious but dreadful science adventure atmosphere. I still haven't seen a better first episode in anime. The action and climactic midpoint might have been necessary, but they were not the heart of the story.
