Great video, thanks! Pro tip: for navigating to different tests, like the FF Fan Test (47), instead of hitting 'Fridge' on the right side of the panel to increase by one, you can hit 'Freezer' on the left side of the panel to increase by tens to, say, get to 40 and then use the 'Fridge' button to go up seven more. 'Ice Maker' decreases by tens as well. Makes it so much easier to navigate up and down.
Definitely giving you a like for this one, parts needed to be ordered but to fix my fridge for $160 bucks was a lifesaver!!!
This video was SUPER helpful! I wasn’t 100% sure it was the FF evaporator fan causing my issue, and didn’t know how to read the results of the diagnostic test so I did have to pay someone to come out and confirm that was indeed the problem. But I denied their $300-something service charge to fix it, went out & bought the part and used this video to replace it myself. Super simple and the instructions are very detailed and run at a good pace. This video allowed me to feel so proud of myself and my abilities 😁
I'm so glad the video was helpful for you!
You are a genius! Replacement part and everything worked perfect.
Your kind words mean the world to me. I'm thrilled it all worked out.
Thank you so much for your easy-to-understand explanation. well understood, Thank you.
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it!
Great video thank you. Any suggestions on how to make sure it doesn't happen again? I didn't have any issue with my duct tower but looks like we had too much ice buildup?
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
So if the diagnostic test (47) had resulted in air flowing, would that mean the control board is the problem? I'm actually working on an electrolux but have the same warm fridge compartment problem. The evaporator fan does was not blowing, but when I entered diagnostic mode and tested it, it worked fine. Thanks for the video. Thumbs up.
Hello! It sounds like you might be dealing with a main control issue. However, I recommend checking your door switches under diagnostic mode first to ensure they aren't causing the problem. Before replacing the main control board (MPC), it's also a good idea to inspect the evaporator thermistor. This component sends signals to the MPC, which then regulates the fan motor's speed to effectively remove moisture.
@@onlineappliancetech Thanks!
How’s the fan working for you
I did not see a spot to order software update. Can you direct me to it?Thanks
How do you know if you need to complete the software update? GE is telling me no update is required
very informative video! thank you. Please post link to where to buy software update . thank again
You can purchase the part from Encompass Appliance Parts online. The part number you'll need is WR98R4546322. I hope this information is useful to you.
My fridge looks exactly like this except i dont have the ice dispenser in the door. What buttons do i push to enter diagnostic mode? PLEASE, if i have to have a tech come out the closest one is almost 100 miles away. Lol i really dont want to have to pay all that travel time if i can do it myself. 😀
If you get the genuine GE replacement part WR60X26866, it says no software or firmware upgrade is required. I hope it's correct.
I have the exact fridge. The freezer is making ice on the sides. Could that be the cause of the fridge not cooling well?
How do would you say we saved doing this ourself? I just replaced mines using this video. I also need to replace my evap cover. It’s warped bad. Thank you for the video!!!
DIY projects can definitely save you some money!
Couple questions 1) where do I find a list of the codes 2) where do I buy the update box? Thank you for the video
on line appliance sales have them, Amazon has them but you never know if its an actual GE product or an China copy (which is full of copy abuse products cart parts tools ect.) that could cause your appliance to need a new circuit.
When I press crushed after setting it to 47, all numbers just go back to zero whether I touch crushed lightly or hold it.
I have this exact fridge. The water dispencer suddenly stopped working but the ice maker is still working. Because of that I know the water line should be ok. It's also weird, the fridge and freezer seem to be regulating temperature fine but the meat drawer is freezing everything no matter the temperature setting.
Getting a e3 in display in frig
Where I can get the software for the refrigerator
I inherited a ge cafe fridge, very similar to what you worked on. I had the ice build up, defrosted and replaced the evaporator fan. The fan works. This helped a little. Fridge still to warm. I read my particular fridge needs the software update. The parts house says they don’t need updates anymore and do not have the software module. I called GE and they said the new fans do not need the software/module update. I replaced the thermistor and it cools better. But Now my fridge cools to 41-45, better but not holding 37. The display on the fridge will say the temp is 34 but it’s 41-45. I can unplug it and the display will change to 41-45 and cool it down to 37 but back to 41-45 soon after. Can unplug and do it again… No icing problem. I have replaced this evaporator fan, thermistor at top of fridge, the condenser fan. Refrigerator will not hold 37. I checked the coils today and they are not frosted up. Seals on doors are good, vacuumed condenser coils, they were not dirty. Do you think it needs the update even though the parts house and GE says it doesn’t. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Hello, sounds like you checked everything that I would have checked. If you would like to send me your model number I could see if there is a way to pull up stored error codes if you would like? Best regards Matt.
I am having the same issue. I replaced the evaporator fan and it cools better but won't go lower than 40. Have you figured out a solution? Did the software update fix it?
@@jonathancaleb87 I finally broke down and called a repairman, 2 actually. I would definitely use a GE repairman. He hooked up his computer to the fridge and could read everything. When I replaced the heater limiter( forget the actual name) I didn’t make a good connection. He did do the update also but sure if it helped. But my fridge stays about 39-40 according to my free standing thermometer. I purchased a mother board that I ended up not needing. Let me know if you need it, probably won’t.
@@sandsfarmsfarms1717 thanks for the reply and the offer. I think it's one of the many thermostats. It cools down to the correct setting after a power cycle but then deviates overtime. I'll swap those out and hope for the best. Thanks again.
@@jonathancaleb87 I would place it in diagnostic mode and see if you have any stored error codes. Also make sure you have temp set correctly. If that does not work I would try updating software. Hope this helps!🙂
How can get the software update?
Where to get software update? Please
Can all Ge cafe fridges be updated I have a cafe CFE28TSHSS
Does THT gadget you used to upgrade come with new fan or u already had it
Unfortunately you have to buy separate, I left part numbers in description below.
I replaced my evaporator fan but still getting fridge temps in the 40's and freezer temps fluctuating from -5 to 12 when it runs the defrost cycle. I need to update the software on my fridge to get it to work correctly? None of the other videos on this show that this is needed.
I notice that my freezer is running the defrost cycle every six hours. Is that normal? Could I have another issue?@@onlineappliancetech
Why the software update? What's the outcome if you don't apply the update?
I have the same fridge, the evaporator fan went out the first time last yr, I replaced it without knowing you have to do a update. What will if I didn’t update the software? Cause now my fridge temp is not cooling correctly, the temp now is at the 40s. No ice build up like before. There’s air coming from thr vents just not cooling at the right temp. Do I have to buy another evaporator fan again? It still running and seems like good air flow coming out.
The update will help the MPC control the variable speed DC fan motor at correct RPM to remove air flow from the evaporator. If not it will frost over again, not allowing air flow causing temp to rise. I recommend placing the unit in diagnosis mode to pull up error codes if any and is placed in test mode to see if part is working or not. Hope this helps to have a good one!
@@onlineappliancetech never updated it and works fine many fridges if it build up ice guys check resistance on bi-metal it should be continuity because 140-30F. And you can change fan without removing a column.
The fan is working fine but no air flow to the refrigerator
Where can i buy the software update?
I believe the item you're referring to is available on my RUclips channel. You should be able to locate it in the upper right-hand corner of my RUclips page.
What if you get a 00 00 after test? Hear a click and then 00-00 when I hit crushed after getting to 00 47
I have the same question. Ran diagnostic test 47, which resulted in a 0 00. I did see a brief 1 01 as well, but then it went straight back to 0 00.
You didn't post where you got your flashlight or steamer.
