    Our tenants refrigerator is on the fritz. Freezer is not freezing, refrigerator is around 45. On older fridges, it would always just be an evaporator fan, or a cheapo little defrost control timer. Now they have replaced that cheapo defrost control timer, with a thermostat, multiple themistors, and a bunch of other crap that just adds to the troubleshooting process. I'm all in favor of keeping things as simple as possible.

    Your video was super helpful !!! But I still have a problem with my fridge getting to temp. My freezer is working fine, but fridge won’t get below 43. When I took it apart to check the 5 things, I found the coil in the fridge was frozen solid so I defrosted and put it back together. All inside fans appear to be working correctly, but I don’t have a volt meter to check the juice. Would a bad temp sensor keep my fridge from getting to temp? . The ice and frost on the evaporator coil sounds like the issue. With all of the frost melted, allow 24 hours for it to cool back down to normal. You will also need to replace the bad defrost component(s) to keep it from happening again.

    Thanks for this video, it is awesome. Unfortunately, I am still having issues. I have a GE pye22kynfs French door refrigerator with freezer at the bottom. The refrigerator temperature seems fine, but the freezer drifts between 14-22 degrees. It is set for -5. Basically, we inconsistently get ice (apparently the temp needs to be 15 for that to function) and our ice cream is all like soft serve. All 3 fans seem to be working ok (I have not opened the evaporator panel, but I can feel them kick on. pushing the "Close door" button also allows me to feel the feed for the icemaker turn on as well. The drain had a clog at the very bottom which I removed which gave us ice and a temp @14 for about 3 days - now we are back to no ice and 22 degrees. next guess? Thanks.

      Check to make sure the freezer evaporator fan motor is circulating the air properly and that the evaporator coil in the freezer is not full of ice/frost. If it is full of ice and frost, that would indicate a failure in the automatic defrost system.

    When testing for voltage on an EVAP fan motor, are you just looking for a voltage reading or is there a specific range and I'm going to assume the simple test method is to make sure it's plugged in make sure it's to the coldest setting and the door switches are engaged and put a multimeter on it? Now how often is dirty condenser coils on the back rear the cause of the issue and is that really going to make it to where it's not cooling or is that where it's not cooling completely? Thanks

    • @PartsDr
      @PartsDr  8 месяцев назад

      Each refrigerator can have different voltage specifications for the fan motor. Some are AC voltage, some are DC voltage, and some are DC voltage with a varying frequency. Here is an example of how to test the voltage: ruclips.net/video/x9fK0bN72MA/видео.html
      It is not very common that dirty condenser coils cause the issue.

    My GE DSS25KGDR WW-THE FREEZER especially low down-works fine-
    the upper part of the fridge-is 60 degrees-but mid part 43 degrees- low down about 20 degrees
    I changed the evaporator fan motor-pretty sure it DOES NOT COME ON-does not blow air over into the fridge-I think cold air just goes BACKWARDS-
    FLOWS from lower freezer to lower fridge-
    Why does the EVAPORATOR fan not come on-changed motor-what "tells" it to go on?
    This fridge came from y late sister-bIgger and newer than our old fridge-HUGE 25 CU FT-
    I am 100% considering putting in a tiny drone motor-battery powered-positioning it low in freezer-blowing into vent-or perhaps one HIGH in fridge compartment'
    Yes it would be a PITA-but we are not affluent-thanks-
    PS THERE are 6 wires to fan motor-two white -thermister- a red black(maybe blue) yellow and another white I think.
    I wonder if I could just JUMP the darned thing-have it run constantly-or maybe just jump it-bypass any controls-put a switch on it-add LOTS of wire length-
    which wires actually POWER the evaporations fan-if aI D/C the others-will it run??
    Heck even put a 10v battery pack in it-with tiny timer-just get motor running somehow?
    Thanks
    Charlie

    How do you know if you need a recharge ?

    • @PartsDr
      @PartsDr  Год назад +1

      Refrigerator's typically don't get recharged with refrigerant. If there is a leak in the sealed system, the leak must be repaired by a professional and the refrigerator would be recharged at that time. To determine if there is a compressor or sealed system problem, it is best to inspect the frost pattern on the evaporator coils to see if they have an even frost pattern on the coils.

    Registered at at your forum website and never received the email to complete the registration. I have model PFE28KBLLTS GE Profile Bottom Freezer. My wife notice the ice cream was melted but it was still cool. I removed the back cover and the coils by the compressor were dirty. I cleaned the whole area out, but neither the refrigerator or freezer are reaching their set temperature. The fans for the compressor, freezer, refrigerator and deli drawer are all working. I removed the cover inside the refrigerator to look at the coils and they were not frozen. Compressor comes on when plugged in and cooling fans comes on seconds later and stays on after compressor comes on. Would the thermistors be the problem here and if so, Which one?

    Can one assume if the Compressor fan is operational then the Compressor /Start Relay is not at fault? I ask because I did validate the Bottom Fan (Freezer) is NOT running when I check per your instructions. I feel air blowing in the upper portion of the refrigerator. I did not, however, take the back off the inspect. I ask because I wanted to know if anything else may cause the Lower fan to not function. I also let the fridge sit for a few hours to confirm no ice build up was an issue. With that being said, I was going to get a new fan. I assume both the upper and lower are the same type? In the meantime, i will also try the multimeter check for voltage to the "bad" fan. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

      @@PartsDr The Compressor fan AND the Compressor runs but the Compressor motor only gets around 85F. I then turned the COOLING back on and now the fan(s) all work but the Compressor / Compressor fan turns off . IF I unplug the unit and then turn it on the Compressor reactivate but now the lower freezer fan is dead.
