    For those reaming by hand, don’t forget that you must never turn the reamer anti clockwise. When withdrawing the reamer, keep it turning in a clockwise direction.
    Thank you for such a great video series

    Paul, don't worry too much about how often you can get a video out. Quality over quantity and all that. So long as we know something good is coming eventually, it's all good. After all, I (and I suspect, many others watching this channel) have also been following Project Binky for the last 8 years, and if we can put up with one video every 3-6 months without complaint (or at least, not too much complaint), then you've nothing to worry about. Cheers, mate. :-)

      That is good to know Paul. I love making the video's and really enjoy hanging out in the shop with all you good folk so its just a case of finding time to squeeze in and produce something of value to everyone. Some youtuber's out there fall into the trap of making content for the sake of making content I don't want to waste anyones time with that lark 👍

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 года назад +1

      At the moment the workshop book is closed as I have enough work on hand to see out the year. However typical standard engine rebuilds run 6-8 weeks depending on availability of parts which is quite a problem at the minuite with brexit and customs 😑

      I think I did, Billy had only switched off the camera when I said we will have to re shoot that I put the wrong guide in Exhaust 4 but we decided exactly that we all make mistakes the trick its coping it and sorting it before it becomes a problem

    Your attention to detail is fantastic, back in the day we never used to bother about the valve spring recess depths. We used to taper the guides though, have never reamed out a guide but did lap any tight valves in with cutting compound. By the way we only had the standard guides back then. A really excellent video, as you say quality counts over quantity. Did spot that deliberate error you made to check that we were awake!

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 года назад +1

      Hi Tony, Thanks for the comment I always like to hear how you guys did things back in the day. Like you self up until about 6-7 years ago I didn't ream the guides either just a quick lap. Now however they are making these guides to such tight tolerances if you not ream them perfect they are very likely to bind up so its great piece of mind to ream them and know you are spot on size 👍 glad you are liking the content and I will continue do my best to keep up the quality

    Another brilliant video, I was contemplating getting a head ported for the 850 as I'm working on a spare engine in the spare time. A lot of people were saying when porting go for as smooth a finish as possible, glad I watched this. This is all depending on getting a higher camshaft out of an 850 Spider/Coupe. Thanks again Paul and Billy!

    Hi Paul, congratulations on another brilliant & informative video. Really good point you make about using a drift that has a concave end profile so it does'nt damage the valve guide end near to the bore. I've read how critical valve to valve guide clearence can be with regard to the possibility of heat from the exhaust valve causing detonation (pre-ignition) The valve guide with a free running clearence transmits some of this heat away from the combustion chamber. The article suggested not fitting Stem Seals to the exhaust valves to further aid cooling. I would be interested in your views on this.

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  2 года назад

      Hi Martyn, thank you and glad you like the detail. Yes valve guid to valve Clarence is really critical. On race motors I actully use a hand hone and bring them out half a thousand at a time untill my go-no go gauge fits giving me the most accurate fit. I have never fitted an exhaust valve stem seal to any cylinder head I have built in the last 10 years the only down side is that as the valve wears you can get a very slight puff of smoke on initial start up as excess oil that has dribbled down the stem while the motor has been stoped burns off. However the increased cooling and heat removal is well worth it 👍👍

    What about heating the head and or cooling the guides befor driving them in?

    • @HREIRL
      @HREIRL  3 года назад +2

      Great Idea Francisco in the past I have cooled guides in liquid Nitrogen, however you have to be very careful as they can drop right through the head so a dept stop needs to be set for each guide. Can be done but alot more time consuming plus Liquid Ni has become bloody expensive
