Good to see you working on combustion area, brings back memories when I did it in 1978, But I gasflowed all the inlet and exhaust ports too, and matched the manifolds so there were no shoulders. I used an engine from an Austin 1100 automatic, which has a cooper head to compensate for the auto losses.
Again your attention to detail is fantastic, back in the day we would never drempt of checking the depth and machining the valve spring recesses in the head. I assume that all the work on the valve seats was done because the originals were in bad condition and couldn't be refurnished. By the way we just hammered the guides straight in lining them up by eye, never had any problems with them not being straight. Eagerly awaiting the next episode.
A great pleasure to watch you work, there is no substitute for doing it properly. I was a mechanic in a BMC dealer in the 60s and specialised in Mini, Mini Cooper and 1100s so this brings back lots of memories. When removing material from the combustion chambers you increase the volume so, how do you deal with the effect on compression ration and balancing the chamber volumes? Have a I missed a video somewhere along the line?
Thanks for the great video, your tips are very interesting. My good friend was from Larn in the north so you sound the same! We have a shop in Sidney BC Canada and my son has a channel called Richard Michael Owen if you want a wee gander.
Great Question Steve, in the final Instalment when the valve seats are cut we will do a volume measurement on the combustion chamber. We will then skim the heads untill we reach the factory standard for this model

Most excellent workmanship Paul, the process you use is the same as we use on our race heads, we still lap and polish the seats.
Thanks folks, ya we do polish our valves after they come back but honestly with the CNC tec I am always blown away by the sealing of the valves

Paul Thank you for all your work and help on my heads. Its greatly appreciated
You are most welcome Good sir, it’s my pleasure
Like the steering wheel on the mill Paul,
Top mod dude 😎😎🚗🚗👍👍
Well spotted Anthony top marks. A mini touch if you will
Paul. Once again a very interesting video on heads.
Learn a lot on cylinder head work.
Thanks Francisco I am at my happiness in my machine shop that’s for sure
Great video Paul and Billy. So much work goes into getting the cylinder head right.
Nice explanation of how you get it near perfect.
Thanks Mike glad you enjoyed it
Savage stuff once again lads. Nice to see the milling machine in full engineering operation 👍❤️
Thanks Gary glad you enjoyed.

What do you inside the water jacket of the head to prevent further corrosion?
Hey Gary, what part number is the VW guide?
Would you please give me the OE specs for cylinder head thickness and block thickness from sump to head surface? 1098cc
I
What was the rust eater you used? Loving the videos
Hi Andy its a brand called Evapo-Rust 👍
Very fine work.
Hi, really interesting video, can i ask how this work effects the compression ratio?

@@HREIRL Ahhh right got it, thanks.
@9:48 say what now?
look Kevin we are a community where we don't judge 😂😂😂
@@HREIRL Hey just take my valve guides on a date first
@@kevinbaldwin5155 at least buy them dinner first 😂😂
Why remove the inlet valve seat?
Because both seats are overlapping each other so by lowering the inlet and Exhaust seat it allows us to Produce two Fresh new seats
@@HREIRL OK thanks much appreciated!
@@paulhotson5820 no problem Paul 👍
Whatever. I’m here for the accent :))
Ugh, music background
