I owned a later model (1979) 1275GT for a few years in the late nineties and early noughties and totally concur with your review. Honestly the most fun car I have ever driven and could put the wind up some modern cars once you threw it into second and it went round corners like it was on rails . I have a memory of whipping around a roundabout with an XR3 driver trying to show off to his girlfriend attempting to keep up until he was on the verge of rolling whilst I just sped off. Of course, once on a straight road, he zoomed past but with a face like thunder. Such a great little car that you don't hear much about nowadays.
Fantastic! I was a but a young boy when 1275GT appeared but as soon as I saw one with the stripes down the side I wanted one! My first car was a mini clubman which I had resprayed and 1275GT stripes put on! It was another couple of years before I could get a real one 😃
My first car was a Clubman with a 1100 ccm motor. I had 100+ rims on it (10x6") ? and a small steering wheel. At some point one of the valves burned, and I had the possibilty to exchange the whole motor with a motor from a Austin Allegro 1100...so I did and it fitted perfect..but the gearbox from the Allegro was for 13" wheels,so there was not big topspeed, but lots of revs and acceleration...didn´t need to downshift for overtaking :D :D
Paul, great work, a fantastic car but GT was always joke. I have a 65 Aussie Cooper S. It is a brilliant car in so many ways, but was never a GT either. Maybe the suspension down under was different but I thought that the Hydrolastic pipes connected on the same side. Dave D
Yeah agree on the Hydrolastic being connected front to back on the same side, at least with Aussie minis but I doubt it was different as I imagine it would increase body roll. You are blessed with beautiful roads in Ireland, they're 3D with endless variety of corners our Australian roads are more 2D and mostly straights... still fun to be had. Aussie LS 1275 and LS are some more refined minis too.
Great video , Cooper S 1275 was different ,with Twin carbs different crank & extra head bolt ,also 76 BHP ; 16 More than the 1275 GT lovely car & nice video , thankyou :-)
I will never get used to seeing a Mini Clubman without external hinges and a 1/4 lite in the door window. So many years of seeing them, that these look almost unfinished. :-P
Obviously not an S but a great car nevertheless, the only thing that lets it down are those dismally dim lights, they definitely need upgrading. It would handle even better with 21A1811 displacer units and it would still look standard.
Hi, that certainly is a gorgeous GT! Love the colour and also the fact that it's on 10 inch wheels...the Rostyle really suit too. Question...does it have discs or drums up front? I'm thinking discs, because my friend had one in a burgandy shade on 10's, sure it had Cooper 'S discs on? Anyway, great stuff, great vid 😊
Great & diferente video Paul. Nice to go out of your shop and sea Ireland. I quite agree with your Hidroelastic suspention. I had a Mini with the same suspention, al though at the time I didn't like it so much. Have you ever done a MIni Sprint conversion ?
My best mate used to have a black W reg, (1980??)1275GT with the gold 1275 down the side. Would that be the last of them?? I was amazed how well it pulled in any gear and how comfy it was.
Some friends of a neighbour of mine had one like that back in the 1980s. I was always quite jealous of it, compared to the Fiat 126 I had as a first car back then; almost anything on the road was better than one of those!
@@FMFGUF When i was about 14, one of the older lads in the street bought a black 1983? Y reg MG Metro turbo with some nice spot lights on the front. I thought it looked the dogs potatoes.
I always wanted to own one of these cars, but I was too young to buy one, and then later on I bought a Ford Fiesta as my first car , and nowadays they are way too expensive for me to buy
@@HREIRL Agreed and then some! I can remember a young guy turning up to my local not so long back with one which looked fantastic and him saying the car was actually older than him! Just wish I still had both my Mk1's but I don't think I'll be alone with that thought!
@@HREIRL We want to move to Scotland when we retire, house prices are cheaper up there and we both lost everything in our divorce's so we both had to start from scratch so money will be limited. South Ireland has popped up on our radar for cheapness and ruralness so a fellow Mini guy might be moving to a place near you 🤣

I know exactly where the opening shot was taken, days of a misspent youth. It's a family show, let's leave it at that. Great video!!
Hahaha 🤣 I think we might of interrupted a few of the current miss spending youths 😆

Nice drive! Love the enthusiasm!
Followed lots of rally’s around Ireland in a mates GT in the early 80’s. Great car!
Beautiful little mini, and I love the colour as well.
What a beautiful car and absolutely stunning scenery !!!!
I used to have an real early 1969 1275gt back in the late 80's, paid £150 for it, wish I'd still got it.
Wow that was very early. Imagine what it would be worth now 😲
Brilliant and very enjoyable video...... very well put together, billy doing a great job on the camera's. . 👍👍👍
He really did, all credit on this one goes to him 👍👍

Beautiful looking car. I love Rostyle wheels on a mini.
They suite this little motor down to the ground
Beautiful!
More of this driving stuff please!

Yes Paul that would have been the back end of them all right. What a machine

Thanks Gaz we had good fun making it
Richard might not want you to set foot in his Clubman GT again after seeing where you took it. :)
Quite the contact Midge Richard built this little Mini to drive and be driven not a trailer queen
@@HREIRL No offence Paul. just a bit of a ribbing. I enjoy your videos. Cheers,
Anyone know the colour name/code?
My commiserations to the camera man squashed into the back.
He was a leprechaun
Really in 1980 I don't know, what happened with British Leyland.. producer of Austin and Morris cars.
Nice car but not my thing unfortunately, has to be a Mk1 Cooper S with full balls that gets me going!
Everyone to there own Chris it’s just great to see beautiful examples such as this Getting saved
