Merga; Even if you manage to win...what makes you certain their loyalty is absolute? They will betray you one day. Shadow; Then I will fight like I always have! I have a promise from an old friend that I intend to keep. And neither you nor your allies will stand in my way!
A bit surprised we didn't get a Sonic Vs Lilac commission as the first Sonic Vs Freedom Planet track. Still pretty interesting to see another match up here and the music is really great no surprise.
Shadow Victory: This fight was definitely lacking in chaos Merga Victory: Well at least Shadow has freedom in Heaven now. Wiz: What no pun Boomstick? Boomstick: Nah. I didn’t Plan-et
I absolutely love this idea in concept but damn. Even if you lowball Shadow to the max (which is like city level at worst) the city block at best Merga sadly stands no chance. Amazing music though!
Do it. Oh! And make sure you get all the time capsules. It unlocks an area that shows you the true extent of The Earth Dragons vs Water Dragons. (Weapons Core is an absolute nightmare in all the best ways.)
It would’ve been fine since Tempest has the aura but her backstory lacks so much depth and detail. Honestly, she has the lamest tragic backstory while Shadow and Merga’s backstories are filled with loss and maximum distrust.
One of these days I'll need to play Freedom Planet just for the OST, especially since Freedom Planet 2 is quite recent of a game too. Also, second Freedom Planet track and first one in more than three years, that's pretty cool. Speaking of which, I admit that I was really curious how this track would sound. I've always appreciated Wish Of The Planet but felt like it was pretty outdated by today's standards so seeing a "modern" take on a similar track was definitely something I was looking forward to. And unsurprisingly, the track most definitely delivers. It has the energy one would expect from a Sonic/Freedom Planet track while also having a distinct mix of modern guitar and classic almost-8bit music to fit the genres of both franchises which makes for a very interesting-sounding all around. I mean, the track doesn't really have anything legendary or completely groundbreaking to it but I think I prefer it that way: it takes a formula that works and perfects it to give out a genuinely really enjoyable and classic song that mixes both side of the matchup really well. This is something which represents both franchises pretty well IMO. Both are franchises that take a classic genre (platformers) and that have become classics themselves. Sure it's less the case for Shadow given his own first game is very divisive but it holds true for Sonic as a franchise. That aside, going back a bit on what I said earlier, I really like how the characters' personalities are represented here. I'm not familiar at all with Merga given I've never played Freedom Planet as I've said before but after a quick read of her wiki page she does somewhat fit Shadow's own personality in that both seem like somewhat stereotypically edgy characters with an edgy backstory but that aren't outright evil even if they're not outright heroic either (hell, Merga's her game's own antagonist from what I've read while Shadow is sometimes an antagonist himself). And this is really well represented in the track in my opinion as it does have a very intense and pretty agressive feel to it without sounding outright antagonistic, even having a slight feeling of sadness showcased at times (IE: 2:39-3:02), throughout its entire duration. Once again the way it's done is pretty "classic" in that there aren't any special movements with lots of depth (at least not that I can recognize) but the general atmosphere of the song does an absolutely amazing job at taking this classic feeling and perfecting it to get across what it wishes to tell in a very enjoyable and fitting way. And that's made even better by how catchy the song as a whole is. Like I said there aren't any special segments that massively stand out on their own but it still manages to have recurring segments that most definitely feel unique enough to stand out such as the main melody (IE: 2:16-2:39) which is yet again pretty simple but extremely catchy, making it once again work with the song's entire formula and all for the better which results in it perfectly fitting as the song's main melody. Overall this track is nothing groundbreaking as said before but it doesn't need to have any of that to still be a really good and enjoyable track. It takes a classic formula and perfects it to give out a song that fits the characters and their franchises all the while being very catchy and that's already more than enough for the song to be a really good one. Hell, it even got me to look up more of Freedom Planet's lore and actually consider getting it even if I'm not a fan of fast platformers normally so that's an achievement and a half to begin with. Regardless, amazing job as always with this.
You can argue that they can survive a moon busting laser, but I don't think that's enough to keep up. Might stop the match from being an absolute curbstomp though,
Unless freedom planet's scaling got a massive buff that I don't know about (I haven't played the game yet) I don't see her winning at all Rooting shadow regardless
You know, I have another great Death Battle idea that this guy could make the next song for: “General Zod vs. Lord Arktivus Brevon (DC vs Freedom Planet).”
Honestly not sure, though I think it’s most likely the crystallized seal Merga was trapped in prior to Freedom Planet 2. Alternatively it could also represent her energy sword.
