Hi, co-commissioner and cover artist here! Yup, the DB community's resident stick figure has once again commissioned a track from Yates, this time with some help from Speeze. And this time, it's for a matchup that needs no elaborate explanation: a battle between Nintendo's superstar heroes, Mario vs Kirby! For this, we gave Yates full control on the track, with my only input being that I wanted some sense of story progression in the track for the hypothetical fight escalating. And then we decided to bring in Terwolf as well... because why not? As for the reference tracks, we gave Yates 3: the remix of Super Smash Bros. Melee's menu theme from Brawl (as it played during the Mario vs Kirby battle at the start of Subspace), the Origami King rendition of Mario's invincibility theme, and the Forgotten Land rendition of Kirby's invincibility theme, with the latter two also serving as excuses to add rock into the track despite both series not having that as their primary music style. The cover art is actually an updated version of a previous Mario vs Kirby CAC that I made prior to planning out the commission. I chose to make a new version since I felt like the old one was a little too cluttered. I'm really happy with how this turned out, especially with the Super Star/Warp Star/Pop Star and Rainbow Trail/Rainbow Road combos. Anyway, that's about it for behind-the-scenes talk. Here's hoping you enjoy this track as much as Speeze and I did! Until next time.
Yo, thank you for (co)commissioning this track for us. It turned out great for a banger matchup. This actually came out at a very convenient time because I was just working on an animation for this exact matchup. I might end up using it (at least if I’m allowed to). Also, you nailed the artwork btw
Unfortunately, most of the abilities Mario can give kirby are also the abilities he’s immune to due to the effects of Mario’s different armors and items. I mean, Kirby could still use any of his many other non-elemental abilities but still.
@@TheSuperGoober Mario RPG. Multiple items and armor in that game gave Mario complete immunity to elemental damage, which includes fire. That game also gives him tons of other weapons and items he can use.
Mario may have protection against a lot of Kirby's copy powers, but he has no way to prevent getting swallowed himself. You could argue that he has the Metal Cap to become too heavy for Kirby to suck in but it doesn't last very long and loses to Hypernova Kirby anyway.
YOOOOOOOO ITS FINALLY HERE!!! A couple of friends of mine commed this and I've been eagerly waiting for this one to happen. And holy shit it was well worth the wait, even the Starman theme got used, which HELL YEAH THAT'S HYPE
THE STARMAN JINGLE AT VARIOUS POINTS OF THE TRACK IS SO APT THO I love both Mario and Kirby a lot. I never grew up with any Nintendo Home Console (my only main home console on Nintendo is the Switch but by then I’m already an adult lmao), as I grew up a Sony kid (PS1, PS2). But my siblings played with the SNES, so I know Mario a lot, and playing the SMW port on the GBA as well as Amazing Mirror so I’m quite attached to Kirby too. One of my fondest memories was playing Amazing Mirror and getting my cousin to play it too. She was pretty much like my best friend back then, and we had so much fun! I think this track excels at being a celebration for both Mario and Kirby- two amazing Nintendo series that have touched the hearts of many growing up. Mario, Kirby and Pokemon- those are my three childhood Nintendo franchises. Needless to say, I love this track!
Wiz: Mario, plumber and hero of the Mushroom Kingdom Boomstick: and Kirby the cute and cuddly devourer of worlds Wiz: Nintendo is known for having iconic characters Boomstick: but these two are so heroic they even saved entire galaxies at minimum!! He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick Wiz: and it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Love the Rainbow Road tone this track goes for. Now I'm imagining it starting as "Mario Kart vs. Kirby's Air Ride" and steadily escalating into a full space-battle with some of their more cosmic power-ups.
Both franchises that make the best use of the Star motif! I grew up with both of them ever since my earliest memories of playing video games and they showed me how beautiful the Stars can be. Excellent song, too! I can’t describe how much I love this!
Finally. It has happened. Nintendo’s biggest & greatest mascots are clashing against each other in a track we’ve waited so long for. Two legendary musicians have made this together for an upbeat & heroic track that these superstars deserve. Love this MU, the MU is best alt for both or perhaps the best for both. Rooting & betting the Mushroom Kingdom’s whimsical Italian turtle crushing hero
I would say Kirby wins this. 1. Both of them have a ton of different power ups that give them similar abillities like controlling elements like fire ice and electricity, swinging tools like hammers and other weapons, turning into indestructible objects, creating duplicates of themself, gaining super speed or the abillity to fly, controlling others, becoming temporarely invinceble etc.. That list goes so far for both that power ups alone won't decide a winner. 2. So it comes down to base stats. Both have show incredible feats but Kirby edges out in most of them. Mario was able to lift and kick a massive castle, Kirby broke an entire planet in half. Mario had the reaction speed to controll the Star Driver and move as a lightning bolt, Kirby can ride the Warp Star and even keep up with Galacta Knight. Mario survived an explosion of hundrets of Bob-ombs and even a black hole, Kirby survived a void that had the power to destroy the entire universe. 3. When all of their power ups have been used and their fight has brought them to their absolute limits of their physical power Kirby still has a way to finish Mario by simply swallowing him, a power Kirby had since his very first game. Mario on the other hand has nothing left that could harm Kirby. In the end Kirby is the true Superstar of this Saga.
Now THIS is an absolute banger if I've ever heard one, he keeps levelling up my favorites. Just imagine the potential of a PVZ track with either one of these two, love your work guys!
I could see it being a fun idea if Mario used power-ups against Kirby, but then Kirby sucks him up and expels him while stealing the power-up, converting it into a copy ability (e.g. Convert Fire Flower into Fire ability, Rock Mushroom into Stone, etc.).
@@1mrcow143 I wanna wait for that matchup to happen until both movie series gain their trilogy. Movie Sonic’s almost there to his third film, but Movie Mario has yet to even get his second film so I’d say we should wait.
My favorite part about this track is how the Mario parts and Kirby parts feel so cohesive that they don't even feel like seperate references. The Mario fan in me thinks this is an Epic Mario Kart track, while I'm sure the Kirby fans think this is an epic Kirby track.
1:48-2:25 is the major highlight of the track for me. Just hearing it quiet then return to being triumphant once more, giving the impression of this entire fight being a sight to behold on a cosmic scale. Amazing work as always!
Mario is easily my favourite franchise in fiction, and Kirby Triple Deluxe is also one of my favourite games ever. This is a cool as matchup, and an even better song!
Noice, this matchup made me visualize a crossover game between Mario and Kriby similar to how Mario and Sonic has with the Olympic games and if you discount the Super Smash Bros Games while imagining this being a 3rd installment to Super Mario Galaxy.
*see's the full title* " OH I DON'T EVEN NEED TO HEAR THE SONG!" *likes and add to song Playlist* "HAHAHAHAHA!!!" *after hearing the song* it's alot more epicer (not sure if that's a word or not) than what I was expecting, like Mario Galaxy's soundtrack meets Melee's Fountain of Dreams. Still an amazing track from you and Therewolf!
Great song, putting aside any feelings on Nintendo as a company I have a lot of love for these series. I think Kirby wins but Mario keeps it a lot closer than most would expect. His powerups are crazier than most of Kirby's especially now with the wonder flower reality warping.
The wonder flower’s powers don’t really help him here. Sure they can give him new abilities like immunity to electricity or lava but they also could just make piranha plants sing. It seems like it’s random as to what the wonder flower will do and if it will even help him.
kirby has resisted reality warping before with yinyarn and in the canvas course games, so he should be able to take reality warping and even reality erasure without much trouble.
@@FranTheNerd Yes but said reality warping in Kirby’s own series has constantly limited his full potential such as how he was only able to grab threads of yarn and not be able to even suck up enemies while as Yarn Kirby or how he has a hard time even navigating around while as Ball Kirby. Just because Kirby has been shown to take on reality warping doesn’t mean he doesn’t get hindered by said reality warping in any way.
Therewolf playing all sides of the Mario matchups to always come out on top I see. Also don't think I don't see that Mario Kart Rainbow Road thing on the track art, it's epic. As for the track itself ? Well it's about as straightforward as it goes for the matchup: very lighthearted yet grand and majestic, a few obvious references (Super Star theme and Smash Bros I think Melee's main theme ?) with a progression that gets across the increase in scale of the battle. Really there's surprisingly little to say about the song funnily enough because it fits pretty damn well the characters on that end: it's simple and not revolutionary but what it does, it does really freaking well. It's a really enjoyable song that's catchy, dynamic and has really good progression as said earlier which is helped even more in its quality by Therewolf's usual amazing guitar to add some more punch to the song in a way that benefits it fully but yeah, not much else to say about it. I guess I will make a small comment on the fact that I quite appreciate how the two themes I mentioned earlier were included in the track. The Super Star theme is pretty straightforward in how it's put into the song but even then it's still really solid however the Smash Bros Melee theme I feel is wonderfully put into the track to the point where I didn't even notice it until the end of my first listen because of how well it was included. It sounds distinctly like the source material after noticing it of course but it's twisted in a way that fits perfectly within the song which is the perfect example of a good inclusion of a reference track in a commission. And it further emphasizes what I said earlier about the track doing things that aren't revolutionary but doing them well enough that it makes the song stand out, just like the series it uses as source material. Overall this track is pretty straightforward as I said earlier: it's exactly what you'd expect from both characters/franchise and that makes it perfectly serviceable as a song. It has progression with increases in scale that make it engaging, it has unique segments such as Therewolf's wonderful solo, it has good references that fit in, etc... Really while this track isn't the most unique it still manages to stand out via the quality of its, well, *everything* and that's great. I personally don't have that big a connection with Mario or Kirby beyond "I played some of their games and they're pretty cool I guess" but even I can tell that *dedicated* fans of the matchup/characters will likely highly appreciate the song, even more so than I did already. So yeah, amazing job as always with this.
THIS NEEDS TO BE A DEATH BATTLE!!! AND THIS NEEDS TO BE IT’S SONG!!! I hope to GOD this track gets lyrics one day! Imagine if these songs got made too! - ALL-STARS (Mario vs Luigi) - ALL-TIME ALL-STARS (Mario vs Link) - PRINCESSES IN NO DISTRESS (Princess Peach vs Princess Zelda) - KINGS OF KINGDOMS (King Dedede vs Bowser)
Ah nintendo's tichtular mascots nothing could be better! Brilliant track as always As for who wins, it's REALLY REALLY CLOSE They're about equal in terms of strength, speed, hax= However, kirby should have slight advantages in terms of skill due to his copy abilities and a decent endurance advantage due to Kirby taking on multiversal threats and only ever being winded at most- Mario has been hurt or even lost/died to similar threats- meaning Kirby's endurance should keep him in the race long enough to land a killing blow. Paper mario scaling could make a good argument against this though!

@@treehouseoffun1242 I mean when Mario is physically empowered by Dreamy Luigi. In which case they are fighting as one being. Instead the issue with that is that that can literally only happen in Luigi's Dreams.
*Kirby takes this, with some minor effort. Practically everything Mario can throw at him, Kirby can just eat & spit right back out. Yes, the plumber does have the "superstar", but while it provides nigh invincibility its power isn't limitless (only lasting 10 seconds at worst & 1 minute at best). Kirby on the other hand, has the exact same thing. The "invincibility candy" does as the name implies: provides Kirby with invincible power. The catch is that it only last so long as Kirby doesn't move to a different space/zone. Mario can no doubt do this provided his herculean strength, but that still leaves something out. He can kill Kirby, period. The dreamland's puffball has been at the center of a planetary explosion in multiple games & came out without a scratch.
@@gameuniverse5973 That’s Mario’s only advantage. Kirby’s speed and Hax mean Mario can’t hit him and will most likely be killed before he can do anything. Mario has no resistance to possession, mind control, or being trapped in a different dimension.

Despite all the Crazy stuff Kirby can do and how powerful he is (if you’ve seen smash bracket you know) I still think Mario takes this he’s just too unstoppable.
I’d say Kirby takes it. He’s fast enough to avoid anything Mario throws at him, if he isn’t his warp star most definitely is, and abilities like ghost Kirby and the friend hearts are things Mario has no resistance to.
@@treehouseoffun1242 tbf the “Too fast to hit thing” has already been an argument for Mario with Sonic and we’ve seen he’s fast enough to attack back, as well as that Ghost Kirby could be taken care of as Mario’s Lamp-head from 3D World destroys ghosts, and the friend hearts seem to be only effective on weakened enemies so I doubt that would work.
@@Taypokemon Actually, the friend hearts can affect strong characters like Magolor and Marx even when they aren’t weakened. That part was probably just added in so that you wouldn’t break the game by immediately befriending bosses, same reason Kirby and Mario die if they fall in a pit. Also, I’m pretty sure Mario hasn’t dealt with anything close to Kirby’s speed as Kirby has incalculable speed due to being able to move, fight, and dodge in Another Dimension which is beyond space and time itself. Plus, even if Mario can react to Kirby, which he can’t, then Kirby’s warp star can save him as it is millions upon millions of times faster than Kirby himself. Even if Mario tried to use the head lamp, Kirby and his warp star have the speed to avoid it.
@@treehouseoffun1242 my argument is simply mario has been harmed or even defeated or killed by creatures on a multiversal scale- where as kirby has consistently only ever been winded at most
Mario might actually meet his match here. He's a very powerful adversary thanks to his hitpoints, guards, suits, and protections. He has a powerup for anything like Iron Man has a suit for anything himself. This makes Mario almost impossible, save for the fact Kirby also has a feature that is incredibly overpowered. His power of reflection, and his copy ability. Oh, his copy ability. All those powers Mario can pull out to win any battle he'd usually win? "Fweeeeee~ BllooblooBLING!" Kirby can copy pretty much anything Mario throws at him, convert it into a Kirby-usable ability, and smash Mario around with the return postage. Kirby might actually win, causing Mario a bit of surprise.
@@gameuniverse5973 No? Kirby has genuine incalculable speed feats through Another Dimension as he can fight, move, and dodge in Another Dimension, which is stated multiple times to be beyond space and time. Plus, Mario has no resistance to being mind controlled by the friend hearts, or being possessed by ghost Kirby, or being sucked into Kirby’s stomach dimension. Also, what feats does Mario have that get him to multiversal, let alone outerversal. And what feats get him to incalculable speed?

Until next time.
im so glad this got commissioned bro, thank you so much for helping bring this together 🙏
Thanks so much bro… I never knew I needed this in my life. 😭
Yo, thank you for (co)commissioning this track for us. It turned out great for a banger matchup. This actually came out at a very convenient time because I was just working on an animation for this exact matchup. I might end up using it (at least if I’m allowed to).
Also, you nailed the artwork btw
@@LaymoSupraymo I mean, as long as you give credit, I at the very least don't mind.
Hey it’s me, goku! I gotta say this is a nice commission! Thanks for makin’ it happen!
Oh that’s what I love in these Therewolf and Brandon collabs. The references in the Track !!

Peak fiction is on the menu
Crazy how Mario is a walking power up for Kirby, throws fire ball, Kirby becomes Fire Kirby
Unfortunately, most of the abilities Mario can give kirby are also the abilities he’s immune to due to the effects of Mario’s different armors and items. I mean, Kirby could still use any of his many other non-elemental abilities but still.
@@treehouseoffun1242 since when does Mario have fire immunity?
@@TheSuperGoober Mario RPG. Multiple items and armor in that game gave Mario complete immunity to elemental damage, which includes fire. That game also gives him tons of other weapons and items he can use.
This whole battle is just gonna be “RANDOM BULLSHIT GO!!!” For a good few minutes I bet
THE STARMAN JINGLE AT VARIOUS POINTS OF THE TRACK IS SO APT THO
I love both Mario and Kirby a lot.
Wiz: Mario, plumber and hero of the Mushroom Kingdom
Boomstick: and Kirby the cute and cuddly devourer of worlds
Wiz: Nintendo is known for having iconic characters
Boomstick: but these two are so heroic they even saved entire galaxies at minimum!! He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick
Wiz: and it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
One Legend falls, so the other May rise
Two legends can coexist at the same time 🔥
Love the Rainbow Road tone this track goes for.
Now I'm imagining it starting as "Mario Kart vs. Kirby's Air Ride" and steadily escalating into a full space-battle with some of their more cosmic power-ups.
“Let’s-a-Be Super!” (Mario Vs Superman)
Don'ta cry Sponge. Let's-a-be super friends. ☠
Super Dragon Bros (Goku Vs Mario) ]Dragon Ball 🆚 Super Mario]
"Supersonic" (Mario vs. Sonic 3)
"I'm-a-Ready, To-a-Go!" (Super Mario VS. SpongeBob SquarePants)
Another track name for that would be "Jump-Up, Super Men"
First Luigi VS Shaggy, then Waluigi VS Robbie Rotten, and now Mario VS Kirby
There's one more plumber boy left...
You pick...WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARIO!!!!
Wario vs Lobo babyyyy
Wario VS Ben 10 is real!!!
Another classic matchup.
If Yoshi was in death battle who would he fight ?
Wario Vs Bass
I love how uplifting it is because no one wants to see any of these 2 heroes die
At least both have 1-ups. Whoever wins could easily revive the loser with a 1-up.
Now that would be the perfect ending to this. Both could still survive but one of them still technically died
Both franchises that make the best use of the Star motif! I grew up with both of them ever since my earliest memories of playing video games and they showed me how beautiful the Stars can be. Excellent song, too! I can’t describe how much I love this!
Alternate title: Let’s a Poyo!
In the end, they would both eat cake together.
Only for the cake, and probably princess peach, to get stolen by Daroach and bowser.
Hypernova Kirby vs White Raccoon Cape Mario. Reality is cooked
True
My favourite Nintendo matchup, all the musical references in the track is such a nostalgic trip for two of Nintendo's best.
@@unskilledgamer3642 Unfortunately, this fight is much closer than you think.
This is just Brawl's first fight
Or Smash 64's intro
Now THIS is an absolute banger if I've ever heard one, he keeps levelling up my favorites.
Just imagine the potential of a PVZ track with either one of these two, love your work guys!
I could see it being a fun idea if Mario used power-ups against Kirby, but then Kirby sucks him up and expels him while stealing the power-up, converting it into a copy ability (e.g. Convert Fire Flower into Fire ability, Rock Mushroom into Stone, etc.).
This was an awesome battle music between Mario and Kirby and they are superstars
I’ve even reacted to this battle music
This would feel like one massive race on Rainbow Road. And I absolutely love it.
BOTH FTW
To whoever commissioned this: thank you for giving me one of Brandon's best tracks. He has a lot, but this one is one of the best.
I wonder if there's any suitable matchups for different incarnations of Mario.
Imagine Super Show Mario or Mario Mario getting on Death Battle.
Super Show Mario vs. Aosth Sonic is one of my most wanted.
Movie Mario vs Movie Sonic
@@1mrcow143movie sonic wipes. Unless it’s the second movie Mario then idk
I would love to see Movie Mario fight either Fry or Fone Bone.
@@1mrcow143 I wanna wait for that matchup to happen until both movie series gain their trilogy. Movie Sonic’s almost there to his third film, but Movie Mario has yet to even get his second film so I’d say we should wait.
I was wishing these 2 mascots would get commissioned together at some point, and it doesn't disappoint. 🌟
5:06 sounds as if Mario bust's out the giga cat form
And Kirby bust's out the Miracle Fruit or Ultra Sword
Noice, this matchup made me visualize a crossover game between Mario and Kriby similar to how Mario and Sonic has with the Olympic games and if you discount the Super Smash Bros Games while imagining this being a 3rd installment to Super Mario Galaxy.
5:06 I love it when drums do that slow paced break down...
POV: you're playing ssbb and have to choose between Mario and Kirby
Immovable Object VS Unstoppable Force
Super legend [Link vs Mario] ( Nintendo)
This is one of those fights that just makes sense
1:07 I absolutely love how there is a small amount of Brawl in here since that was the first time they ever canonically fought
Still an amazing track from you and Therewolf!

this matchup has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, glad to see it get a track
But it’s an actual good matchup
That's the best mario MU imo,i think mickey and popeye are good alts since they have toon force.
This would be a very wholesome battle between Nintendo's two most famous mascots.
When I saw this a second ago I said oooh that art looks amazing and the music so far reminds me a lot of rainbow road and I love that
I wanna hear this song on Spotify. Especially from a red plumber, and whatever Kirby is.
This looks and sounds super freaking awesome!

Sundrops and Toadstools: Peach vs Rapunzel (Nintendo vs Disney)
I love this.
Ah nintendo's tichtular mascots nothing could be better! Brilliant track as always
As for who wins, it's REALLY REALLY CLOSE
They're about equal in terms of strength, speed, hax=
However, kirby should have slight advantages in terms of skill due to his copy abilities and a decent endurance advantage due to Kirby taking on multiversal threats and only ever being winded at most- Mario has been hurt or even lost/died to similar threats- meaning Kirby's endurance should keep him in the race long enough to land a killing blow. Paper mario scaling could make a good argument against this though!

"give me all your glazing guys! this is BASE mario we are up against!"
nah jk both are cool i just think mario has this in the bag
If we're talking about Mario empowered by Dreamy Luigi. Then yeah Mario's got this. Without it though I think Kirby has a really good chance.
@@NeonWasInUseidk what that means, tbh.
@@NeonWasInUseKirby is a base Mario victim complex multiversal to outerversal vs large multiversal Kirby
@@NeonWasInUseNope. Dreamy Luigi is his own being and death battle doesn’t allow tag teams unless the matchup revolves around them. The only living thing Mario could use in this fight is Cappy because Cappy is more of a weapon than his own being. I mean, his power is giving people abilities, of course he’s more like a weapon.
Doesnt Mario scale way beyong that planet level feat? Heard arguments for mario being universal
@@luisbalbuena5034Yeah, Mario should scale to universal. Still weaker than the Kirb but it would help him at least.
kirby takes this with a LOT of effort due to mario rpg scaling lmao

I wonder who would be a good opponent for meta knight...
@@treehouseoffun1242 my argument is simply mario has been harmed or even defeated or killed by creatures on a multiversal scale- where as kirby has consistently only ever been winded at most
@@FranTheNerdwtf is this downplay game Mario can beat the megabyte twice which can affect the real world with its darkness that outer easily
Awesome track for what’s arguably the best matchup for both as of now.
Rooting both; Betting Kirby
