    We met Jana and Brett on the train from Grütschalp to Mürren and they were so gracious to us! We had arrived in Switzerland without our luggage and they had already guided us as to where to purchase some clothing, so it was fun to actually find ourselves on the same gondola with them. They attempted to get us to take that same picture on the stump in Mürren, but due to a shoulder surgery we couldn’t make it happen 😆 We had previously spent a few weeks studying their videos and found them so full of information, which was so valuable for a trip we thought up and planned within 5 weeks. I saw that someone commented that they have too much talking in their videos, but please keep in mind that their videos are not for ASMR purposes, but instead they are here to give us all the information we need as travelers to have in person aesthetically pleasing experiences. Thank you, Jana and Brett! We literally couldn’t have planned our trip without your guidance. Love from Michigan.

    My husband and I just did 7 days in the Junfrau region in mid-September 2024. One of my favorite days was hiking from Mürren to Gimmelwald (and then taking cable car down to Stechelberg in Lauterbrunnen and hiking along the river in Lauterbrunnen Valley). We finally got a sunny day and warmer temperatures which made for some spectacular views. We at lunch at Pension Gimmelwald on their deck and just soaked in the mountain views.

    Murren was my favorite on my recent Swiss trip. Much quieter than Wengen, not that Wengen is loud but Murren is more private. We got a great AirBnB with awesome view and if I had a choice, I would go to Switzerland and just spend a week in Murren relaxing. James Bond bathroom was just awesome, those who have been there knows what I am talking about.

Found a chair a little lower than the one in the video to sit and have lunch. We just took the main walk over from Murren, as we didn't have enough time to do the North Face Trail. You are right the views are spectactular! After Schwarz Monch beer, we actually hiked down from Gimmelwald to Stechelberg, waterfall viewing down the trail. Had a sweet treat then headed on the bus to Lauterbrunnen. Thank you for all you do and keep up the great content. Following more of your ideas for our other days.

      Hi Tobin! For the hikes we show in this video, at least a good pair of trail running or hiking shoes is best. No need to have big hiking boots, but there are quite a bit of rocks and roots on the trails around Mürren, and they'll tear up your tennis shoes :)

  • @jamie-cu1yo
    @jamie-cu1yo Год назад +1

    Hey Jana and Brett, love your videos! Just a quick question - ive understood that the funicular from Mürren to Allmendhubel is under maintenance from April - June 2023. As such, would you happen to know if there is an alternative route get to the North Face trail without using the funicular? I've tried to search but almost all used the funicular to ascend / descend when hiking the North Face trial. Thanks so much

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Год назад

      Great question! Since the Northface trail (the way we describe it) ends in Mürren, it would be best to hike the trail in reverse. Head uphill from the Schilthornbahn station in Mürren along the Northface trail, ending the trail at Allmendhubel. From there, you'll find a couple steep trails that go downhill back to Mürren. Or if you're up for a longer hike from there, you can hike the Mountain View Trail from Allmendhubel to Grütschalp, and take the train back to Mürren. Hope this helps!

      Staying in one place for a week gives you the chance to get a potential discount if you book on airbnb, allows you to save money buying groceries and cooking at "home," and keeps you from wasting time checking in and checking out. We tend to prefer this, but we also stay longer. Interlaken or Wilderswil would make a great home base for a week.
      But it can also be fun to split your time between 2 places that are pretty different. Mürren, Grindelwald, and Interlaken/Wilderswil would each give you a very different experience! We wouldn't stay in more than 2 places for just a week, for sure.

      Yep, you can! But it's kinda hard to describe the most direct way. Basically, it's right along the road/hiking path right above the village, just before you would enter the forest (or exit the forest coming from Sprutz Waterfall).

      I have these Solomon trail running shoes: www.amazon.com/dp/B081KGMJ5Q?tag=thegroshe06-20,aps,168&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=thegroshe06-20&linkId=78020e4466c46b1c58502a0729b1a4d7&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
      They are fantastic for the trails because they aren’t as bulky as a hiking boot but just as sturdy. They keep my feet cool when it’s hot but are surprisingly warm when it’s cold. And I’ve worn them in rain and through mud and in a field of cow poo and honestly love them! (However they tire my feet if I wear them on paved roads so I only wear them on trails, and would recommend separate shoes for the cities/towns). Hope that helps for your trip in October! 😊

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  2 года назад +1

      Hi Sarah! We’re so glad to help! First tip is to use Meteo Swiss for weather. We’ve found that it’s the most accurate. Sometimes I laugh when my phone weather app says it’s raining all week…when I’m literally sitting on our deck in the sun! And if the weather isn’t great, we recommend visiting Giessbach Falls and then walking from Giessbach to Iseltwald (even if it’s drizzling). And of course cities and villages like Interlaken and Grindelwald are good options for bad weather days too. Save your hikes and views for clear days. We hope that helps!

    • @mountainlover830
      @mountainlover830 2 года назад +3

      Sarah, Trummelbach Falls in the middle of the Lauterbrunnen Valley or the Aareschlut (Aare River Gorge) in the neighboring valley by Meiringen are good places for light to moderate rain. Trummelbach are waterfalls inside a mountain, so you're protected from the rain, but you're going to get wet from the falls so a raincoat is advised either way. The Aare River gorge is protected 85-90% of the walk. I've never been here, but there are the St.Beatus caves off of Lake Thun. Thun also has some pretty neat castles to explore. There's one in the center of town, displays have English translations if I remember correctly, and the Schloss (castle) Oberhofen is interesting as well. If things are really rainy you can take a day trip to Luzern, Bern, or the Kambly Cookie factory store in Trubschachen (free samples, interactive displays, and cookies in bulk--savory and sweet). All reachable by train (except St. Beatus ond Schloss Oberhofen---you'll need to take the bus) and then you don't have to worry about rainy roads. Do download the App MeteoSwiss. It's the most accurate and will show you graphs of when and how much of the predicted rain will occur. Safe travels--we're travelling there the week after you!

      @AplinsintheAlps  2 года назад +2
