Holy smoke. Dammit wonderful woman, wonderful voice and one hell of a wonderful song. Love this woman.
Donna Summer must be one of the most underrated singers of all time. This is awesome!
She was brilliant and the Queen of my favorite music, DISCO, could sing anything. She put Barbra Streisand to shame with the duet Enough is Enough.
One of the best versions ever of this powerhouse song. Vocally, Miss Summer's remarkable.
Her voice is just so amazing. She kind of puts me in a trance.
Donna must be inducted in the Rock Hall of fame, she can sing anything!
what a golden voice she has
wonderfull singer
i love you Donna
The best vocal of "The Impossible Dream" ever. If you don't have to look at Donna. "To run where the brave dare not go" complete with silly marathon running gestures. Stand still and sing, Donna.
Vocally, brilliant. Visually, cold and calculating.
No wonder her career's gone where it's gone.
But, my God, incomparable vocals!
Forever and always.
For everyone at the sound of my text: THIS IS WHY DONNA SUMMER BECAME A WORLDWIDE INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR!!! BECAUSE OF THAT BEAUTIFUL POWERFULL "GOOSEBUMP" MAKING FEELING VOICE!!! NOT FOR ANYTHING ELSE ANYBODY SAYS!!! THIS SONG & THE WAY SHE DELIVERED IT IS THE GOD'S HONEST TRUTH!!! THE WORLD MISSES YOU DONNA!
AMEN!
I loved Whitney but are you really serious?? Donna charted #1 songs for 4 decades and who knows what music we missed out on? Donna wasn't an "era", she was one of the greatest talents we were blessed with.
Truly the most underrated artist ever! In response to the Whitney comparisons I've said before Donna's the original Whitney, but Donna was different. Donna was more diverse than Whitney and wrote most of her material. I love both ladies so much I have their names tattooed on my shoulder.
Underrated??? 3 #1 double albums in a row??? Thats far from underrated
She was definitely more versatile
We just got a rescue dog. A six month old black labradoodle.
Her name is Whitney.
It’s going to be ten years since they both passed. I listen to Donna Summer, every day.
Donna Summer incredibile beelissima voce
Donna,I watched you sing and you never disappointed ! What a performance.
Damn this woman could SANG.
This voice is not of this earth, incredible!!!!
RIP Donna
a very epic performance of a very epic song. this nearly brang me to tears.
Why do people always seem to want to pitch one performer against another? In this instance Whitey Houston and Donna Summer, both were glorious in their time it is not competition... enjoy both as unique and great performers.
Such musicianship. I will always love Donna. Don't care to compare her to any other artitist. I just love her the way she was and the way she will always remain in my mind and in my heart. Rest in peace sweet chanteuse. You are not forgotten.
Perfetta....una divinita'fatta persona.
Donna was a lot of people in the 70's, and many of us, even in the 70's knew she was much more than a disco artist.
One key difference between her and Whitney, is that Donna continues today as a power house concert draw thanks in part to her voice, and to the repore Donna has with her audiences. Whitney has a lot of work to do to re-build her concert audiences, and I do wish her well.
One of the very best the great Donna summer
UNFORGETTABLE VOICE & TALENT~ RIP DONNA SUMMER
THE BEST FEMALE SINGER EVER. POINT.
Shirley Bassey is in Donna's league too.
This voice always sounds beautiful.
I saw her live twice and I got to meet her backstage both times. A very spiritual lady. Once in a lifetime voice. Great essence the transcends time.
@@damienrecordsI envy you these meetings. For 1976 yers her musik is part of my life. I love listening to her. In 1991, she was in Poland. The concert was great - such a nice memory. Greetings from Poland.
WOW! She was always incredible, but she was singing live here. They don't make them like this anymore. A true queen.
FUCK....THAT'S A VOICE !!!!
My first crush. That’s when I knew my preference was black women. RIP Donna.
It's her tone. No one had that unique tone. Hypnotic!
This is the best version of this song that I have heard yet. Unbelieveable vocal performance from Summer. Luther Vandross's version is definately worth checking out, that man can sing his ass off with ease.
thank you RoyceRivers.....I could not have said it better.Donna was the best and her voice was always spot on perfect.she was my favorite and she is very much missed.
You must be blind. Both women are very attractive. Donna Summer has such a beautiful aura unlike anyone else...
the voice of an angel
Donna is so beautiful
During a two hour concert you voice can get break; the backup singer is her sister Mary. HELLO
I miss her show when I was in Florida. I never going to see her again.
I love you Donna Forever.
RIP, your highness
Maravilhosa
Donna you were the real Voice.
The Queen, TE QUEREMOS DONNA. Formas parte importante de nuestra Juventud.
Latinoamerica te AMA.!!!
She was a Great Lady and Performer,She is Missed. R.I.P.
Love you Donna Summer
Always missed Forever
@Ashleys505Videos She isn´t and She wasn´t Whitney Houston...DoNNA is still the DIVA...before and after Whitney Houston (A Great Singer - RIP)
how amazing i have loved donna since i first heard her as a 15 yo schoolboy in 1975 and THAT VERSION JUST MAKES ME MELT !!!!!!!!!!
WOW.....!!!... where were these Summer performances in her hayday and PRIME....!!!????.... this disco diva could truly sing and I remember her saying that too....!!!.... WOW...!!!...under-appreciated but among the top singers in the world for sure....:-)
maybe its not so easy to sing such a ballard.. and maybe she was very concentrated to sing the right tunes... and it was live...it´s not cold or calculating.... she was just very concentrated... in my opinion...
she is one of the greatest....
Uma voz potente semelhante da Whitney Houston
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My brother's favorite artist but he never knew she sang that song
Awesome!!!!! R.I.P.
you have such amazing and charming voice
Love the way Donna sings it
Yes I agree I Loved Whitney hands down. However Disco Queen Donna was first with that Beautiful N Powerful Voice RIP Love them Both Queens and Legends of Music.
I love you Donna
great voice!
I love you, Donna! RIP!
Why wasn’t this song on her albums
Also, this song for you wasn’t on either
Donna's voice is unique far superior to Whitney in my humble opinion.
I'm really surprised that she can sing like that for i only knew her as the "Disco Queen" like most people know her as, but her version of this classic song is really good and the arrangement is beautiful, and who was her keyboard player.?? they got a great touch, whoever it was they can play..!!
Oh Donna.....I love you so much! Your voice is amazing as always.
outstanding!!!!! Donna, live, at the prime of her voice - absolutely - loved - it. I LOVE to hear Donna really belt one out like this - thank s for sharing this!
Donna Summer NEVER lip syncs!!
She was the Whitney Houston of her era
No..she is not..
If you remember Donna being considered a "Whitney of the Seventies" as per bla2706's original quote vs. a Disco Diva, even toward the end of that decade, then we simply have different memories.
There was Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and a host of other R&B/Pop singers who had a much firmer grip on that category.
WOW WOW WOW WOW That was AMAZING, I got chills all over!
2024 🥰🫠🫡🤗❤️💥💫
Great delivery.
Linda voz!
The comments posted in this video are some of the dumbest I've ever read. There is obviously no lip synch. She is singing the final note in harmony with her back up, who carry the note on even after she finishes and begins talking. You can clearly hear the layered effect of the harmony, and note how it becomes less robust when Donna stops singing.
WOW!!!!!!
Actually, she wasn't. I was there. During the 70's, she was prerceived primarily as a disco act.
SO TRUE, I could not have said this any better. I get so sick of people comparing one to the other. Summer is in a league of her own. IMHO very FEW vocalists out there could match this on their best day. Anyone that says DS cant compete with any contemporary artist out there, link them here, I promise you, this performance will change that. Funny thing is: She "DS" herself said, singing this was a piece of cake. I'm convinced
Beautiful
Just shut your eyes and listen. Vocally, this is one of the most beautiful renditions of this old warhorse you will ever hear. Imagine what it could have been had Giorgio Moroder produced it. What Donna Summer lacks in visual sophistication (clenched fists on the line, "To fight the unbeatable foe") she triumphs vocally.
Lip-sync? Doesn't matter in the end, because of one important point; If she was indeed lip-syncing, itr was to her own voice. Hello? And BTW- she was not. I have seen her live 3 or 4 times. Her ability and power are unmatched. She comes from gospel roots and the church. You BETTER be able to sing! LOL
That one-and-only VOICE is still there. Wish Donna could find a contemporary producer to harness it and deliver it to us big-time.
Close your eyes and LISTEN! This is as fine as it gets.
Please, Donna: One more kick-it-out-of-the-ballpark drop-dead album before you "retire."
The "backup" singer on the final note (". . .S-T-A-R") is deliberate staging. Donna Summer never needed a "backup" singer or track to strengthen her vocals. Summer sings "S-T-A-R" (with the "s"). The backup behind her eliminates the "s" and comes in - perfectly pitched in tone and volume - with "-A-R-." Choirs perform the same trick to eliminate over-sibilance; one singer sings the "s" and the others eliminate it.
There are obviously two voices singing that final note: staged so Donna can grab a quick breath before launching her thank-yous and good-byes over that last note. It's not that she can't reach it or hold it: it's to sustain that emotional note while gliding smoothly into her thank-yous. Great, subtle, professional vocal staging. Not deception.
She is not lip synching at the end of the song. First in the recording there is a time delay with a outside recorder. Second what you heard are her backup singers(her sister Mary) Who during a two hour concert allowes her to pace her self and save her voice
The arrangement and presentation are a little too Vegas-ey for my taste, but Donna sounds awesome. She should record an album of show music and standards; that's where she started (musical theater), and she clearly enjoys singing this kind of material.
please look up the greatest love of all by george benson ( thats tempo & thats the way that song should be sung ) sorry but i just dont beleave that whitney has 1/4 the talent donna does but to each there own
The looks thing is just a matter of personal preference. If LoveTheSupremes likes a babydoll type like Diana Ross, I don't imagine he (?) would like a strong woman such as Donna. Diana never did much for me, though.
Donna never gets enough credit for her vocal talents, this woman can sing her ass off. I think she is very attractive, always have been. Whitney and Mariah are great singers but I think Summer is even better though.
OK First there is a time delay with outside recordings. Second it her backup singer (Mary her sister) you are hearing. During a two hour concert it allows her to pace herself and save her voice for the big notes
What are you talking about Diana at her peak, Donna still at her peak,Diana had a sweet voice. Never could you put her in Donnas league. I also happen to feel Donna was hot
wow, she mskes me fall in love of her every time i hear her singing. I think we are very lucky to have seen a lady so talented like this and still have her among us.
She might have been one of the biggest disco stars but she was never hailed as a vocalist on the level of Whitney or Aretha, which she deserved to be.
She has a natural gift, Donna started singing gospel at 10 yrs old. Has she had training of course they all have voice treachers even Aretha.
When did it peterout she has been touring and selling out all over the country. She has a new CD in the spring. She has never sounded better.
AWESOME...really the best version, even Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra are not close to her depth of voice....one of my favorite!!!!
whitney ruins everything she sings.. she has no tempo. look up greatest love of all by George Benson if u think im kidding
Very touching!! Thanks for sharing such a positive message Donna!!!!
The performance was not lip-synched entitrely. They just overdubbed the very last note. This is why you hear two notes at once for a while and then you see her mouth clearly close 3:45 while the note is still being held. Just poor video editing. The voice is stupendous nonetheless.
it looked like she stopped singing with that last note. did one of the backup singers continue for her?
...But SHE DId SOUNd ..A Little LIKE..WHITNEY"..
What a freakin Powerhouse!!!!! She is effortless and so gifted!! No one has better pipes!! Thank you Donna!
tha was in madrid in 1990 and was broadcasted by tve..my father recorded and he plays it all the time..
HERMOSA CANCION HERMOSA DONNA
Chiedo scusa a Donna summer pensavo fosse solo un fenomeno della disco-music.ho scoperto solo dopo la sua scomparsa che voce e che talento fosse...ribaltando completamente il mio giudizio su di lei .Era un mostro di bravura .
☆¸¸.•*´¨ TREMENDOUS ¨`*•.¸¸☆
Thanks for sharing!
@broke2471 She isn't lip synching...it is the quality of the upload on youtube.
We are basically on the same side here. We both think she is AWESOME!
end note is a lip synch but the rest is live--what a wonderful voice!
