    Johnny,
    I just wanted to say that your mission of bringing Ys to the masses has definitely been a success in my eyes! As a "hardcore gamer", even I had never heard of Ys back in 2010 or so when I found your channel. But you talked about it so often and with so much enthusiasm, that it really entered my gaming awareness and became something I just had to check out.
    Years later, and I LOVE this series. It's so absolutely meant for my kind of tastes, and yet I had no idea about it until I hit college! Your videos were instrumental and extremely valuable in helping me find my way through this series, and I wanted to say, if bringing Ys to the masses was a mission of yours - mission accomplished! I also try to mention Ys to my friends as much as I can to help try to share the love :) no takers yet so far but hopefully someday someone will listen to me.
    I've also truly felt that without you, we might not have seen such a resurgence in the Western presence of Ys releases in recent years. Hell, Falcom actually linked to this review on their Facebook page tonight! So again, thank you SO much for helping to bring this series into view for so many people, and for (maybe) helping to get more of these titles released over here as well :)
    Until next time...
    Brett

    Several years ago I discovered your channel and as I was browsing your video list, I clicked on your Ys 25th Anniversary video out of curiosity. The enthusiasm you showed when talking about Ys has made me very interested in the series. I was already aware of the name Ys prior to that but I just didn't care about it. All of that changed thanks to your video at the time, I began to look up for more information about Ys on the internet and played it for myself. It really blew me away, the opening of the Turbo CD Ys I was pure 90's bliss. Right now, I'm on a marathon run of the series in anticipation of Ys VIII's release. Just beat Ys I on Steam this morning, spent the entire night trying to beat Dark Fact and right now I'm playing Ys II. Anyway, all I wanted to say is thank you Johnny. Thank you for talking about Ys on several videos, I'm really glad your channel got me into the series.

    I was so thrilled to see that you played and liked Ys Origin Johnny. This was my first Ys game ever back in 2012. When I started following your channel I learnt of your love for the series in general and got into it more and more. I'm also looking forward to Ys VIII later this year :)

      I’m enjoying it too! I’m playing on hard mode and I’m almost at the end! This game is great! It’s not Grindy at all really. Only had to do so a few times to beat masters only.

    Ys The Vanished Omens was the first game of the series I ever played on the Sega Master System. I’m definitely going to give this one a go as I haven’t played any more of this series for years, but thinking back to the Vanished Omens brings back some happy memories. Ys IV Mask Of The Sun was the last one of the series I played on my SNES.

    • @sandbakk77
      @sandbakk77 7 лет назад +1

      Or start with Trails in the Sky 1 - 3, then continue with Cold Steel 1, 2 and (yep) 3. ;-)

    • @oddyquinn
      @oddyquinn 7 лет назад +1

      @PikachuchuTrain - I'd actually recommend starting with Cold Steel if you've never played Trails before. Reason being is that Cold Steel does a MUCH better job of introducing new players to the game. It's tutorial is more user-friendly and is easier to follow.
      I played Trails in the Sky FC first, and I stopped playing not even an hour in because the tutorial felt really confusing and overwhelming. I later grabbed Cold Steel though (cuz I love Falcom and XSEED) and it did a much better job explaining things, to the point where it all felt so simple. Then I went back and played Trails in the Sky and it made a lot more sense.

    • @TeamRocketHQR
      @TeamRocketHQR 7 лет назад

      Is Trails In The Sky related to the Cold Steel series? And which order should I play them in? I have some of the games just wanted to make sure first.

    • @598gh
      @598gh 7 лет назад +1

      Team Rocket HQ The only connection between them is that they happen in the same world as far as I know. other than that you can play them in any order you like, I would personally recommend Trails of Cold Steel first, simply because it's newer and more appealing to new audience.

    • @TeamRocketHQR
      @TeamRocketHQR 7 лет назад

      I'll do that then. Thanks for the quick reply! I'm starting to remember my first Ys game again too. Ys III on snes. I remember the debug code trick on that too. And how you could rubberband down the attack button in a dungeon and just leave it to level up. XD

    Yes! The YS games are so amazing, I picked up the series with YS Origin a few years ago. For reference, I'm mostly a FF, KH, etc kinda gamer. I like JRPGs, I also immensely enjoyed Dragon's Dogma and Skyrim. YS is such a great small budget game. For any gamers that are currently bored, pick this game up!! It's a really good starting point, especially considering some of the other games are pretty difficult (especially I and II, and oath, and VI... all of them, basically). Origin's story drew me in so well and the gameplay/grinding was immensely satisfying. This guy isn't lying.

      People like you gtomanga are the reason there was a massive decline in japanese games and games the west never got. Even in the Wii days where literally everyone on Wii begged and petitioned the hell out of getting 3 titles from japan that worked. Now we are getting japanese games again and stupid little fucks like you want to ruin that yet again. How about instead you just keep your god damn mouth closed, don't type, and just either buy or pass instead of putting negatives on what most of us have been waiting to get which is more and more eastern games to see the light of day.

    I'm not sure about the grinding tip, I think it is more about learning the bosses patterns, that way it is more rewarding

    • @gtf234
      @gtf234 7 лет назад +2

      The way damage is calculated in Ys games does mandate you be at least a certain level to make bosses reasonable to fight, or possible to damage at all. A point or two of Str and Defense often make the different between being effortlessly destroyed by a boss to being able to actually fight it, and then to being the one grossly overpowering everything.
      Outside of Hard mode or higher, one should not NEED to grind if you're killing everything in your way; the game is paced well enough to generally get you to the level it expects you to be at for any given boss. Worst is you end up at a boss a level too low just because you didn't wander as much or you skipped way too many monsters, and that is a quick grind to get back up to speed. The option to grind higher is always available but it shouldn't be required as learning the patterns and openings should be all you need once you're in that sweet spot on exp.

    It's all your fault if now Ys is my favorite rpg saga! I heard about Ys back in the days but only few of them were localized in Europe, anyway, the first I read about was Ys: The Ark of Napishtim for PSP. A couple of month ago, thanks to your channel, I got Ys I&II, then Felghana, then Napishtim, then I'm now starting Origin, but 7, Celceta and 8 are already on my desk. I also got the Kefin English patched rom...you know, just in case. Thank you Johnny and thank you Falcom for this awesome rpg saga.

    Got this, physical release, on the Nintendo Switch. Played through about three and a half times, and I'm getting started with the arena grinding so I can unlock Adol. There's only one FAQ for this on gamefaqs! People don't play this game?
    It's pretty cool.

    It’s on sale for $8 on Switch. Haven’t really heard anything about it so I’m watching your video to see your take on it. The Y’s on Turbografx 16 cd is one of my favorite rpg’s ever.

    I just finished this game yesterday. I took a break from it when I finished one of the routes. In that break, I got to finish Ys VI. Then came back to Origin three days ago, after finishing Memories of Celceta that came out recently on PS4, finishing the last two routes. So all I have left now is Ys Seven which I'm in the middle of currently.

    Fantastic game. I almost didn't play it & that'd be a shame. It's almost as if the creators new you'd be grinding cause they created some awesome locations specifically to grind at such as 4:53 the circle bridge.

    Got a new physical Switch copy for £23 in UK. I've only ever played VIII (and it was great), excited to check out this game and possibly more of the series after.

    One of my favorite games of all time, YSly in top 3.
    It was my first Ys and great introduction to the series. Despite not knowing anything about Ys, I wasn't lost and then when I played 1&2 (after Felghana), I had fangasms when I saw how actions of characters in Origin had impact on the future.

    Grinding helps for sure but, for example, in Oath in Felghana it's very possible to beat tougher bosses by just skill and pattern-memorization. Learning the boss fight should be the number 1 tip.

    I'm a huge Ys fan too. I have the Japanese PC version of Ys Origin as well as Oath In Felghana and Ark of Napishtim. I've played through all three and enjoyed them all. Oath is my favorite and Origin is probably my least favorite of the three though it's a great game as well. I may have to go back and play through it again though since I've only beaten it with Hugo Fact. I didn't know there was a secret ending. Thanks for the info, Johnny!

    I downloaded this a few years ago after I beat Ys VIII but am just now getting around to playing it and I'm loving it so far. The graphics might be outdated, but to me it's a perfect callback to PS1 RPGs/Action RPGs.
